keeps the price down a bit, saves space, plus probably < 10 % of consumers use firewire anyway.

For years now, Apple has been touting their machines as the best choice for consumer-level video editing (hence the need for iMovie and other iLife apps), only to abandon the market with this release?

How are you supposed to import video from your firewire camcorder?

I'm pretty sure the glossy screen can't be any different than the current macbooks. You people who keep complaining I guarantee are going to run out and buy one. Only reason why you're catching a BF is because you were expecting the world and you got a city. Tough

All I know is after my "recorded" chat with Apple combined with my order I get a backlit keyboard regardless.;)

EDIT: Strange, the UK store doesn't show the Backlit feature for the 2.0 model... hmmm

:D :D :D

Apart from the loss of FW, the new MBs are AWESOME and address ALL complaints from past customers.

Except the desire for a less extensive laptop. And "apart from the loss of FW" is like saying the Patriots had a perfect season last year except for that Super Bowl thing.

I am definitely buying one to replace my old iBook G3...GO APPLE! :)

Well, if you're comparing to an iBook G3 no wonder you think they're awesome.

For those of you lamenting the loss of FW on the MacBook line, how about an Express card to FW adaptor? Would that work for you?

No express card. There probably are USB-to-FW adapters, but I doubt that solves the target disk mode issue.

If you don't understand why Firewire is important you're obviously a consumer of content, rather than creator of content. Apple used to make computers that appealed to creative people. But that was then and this is now...

I do understand it and I do use FW on my iMac and my iBook. My point was just in relation to PC users that try to compare their offerings with ours.

Most PCs don't even know what FW is, while we are here complaining that OUR base model notebook doesn't have it now...

As for the creative people targeted by Apple, the answer is MBP, not MB. It has always been like that for creative professionals that use Apple products.

Someone figure this out for me.
I just got a 2.4 white macbook last Wednesday
I can return it for a 2.0 released today since new ones were released within 14 days of my purchase.

The question is should I?
I know the new ones are not what everyone had hoped but are they better than what I just got? I feel like I'm down-grading going from 2.4 to 2.0 but some of the other features sound cool.

Help Please

Thanks for the brainless comments.

If FW is THAT important for you on a MB, go buy a refurb or assume your purportedly "pro" profile and take the plunge for a new MBP; that's what they are there for.

As for the G3, it has served me well for almost 7 years...so your comment shows that you're either arrogant or a newbie Apple user that is not used to the longevity of Apple products.

You watch all those camcorder companys will switch to USB because apple said so lol

I know lots of PC folks using FW, or aware of it. I was using firewire in every PC since 1999, via add on card at least-laptop and tower. My MacBook from 2007 was the first computer I bought with it actually built in.

I learned of firewire because of digital video (digital 8 for me at the time) back in 98/99. I just couldn't afford to go Mac back then.

Your logic holds except for the fact that a lot of those creative people would like a small laptop. Apple don't do small and capable for pro audio...

They used to. That's the issue.

I'm not moaning for moaning's sake here. It's just disappointment. It's not unreasonable to think they might have an interface on there that they invented.

If Firewire is a necessity for you, stick to the one you bought. A .4 clock difference is pretty much compensated by faster bus and memory, not to mention a MUCH better GPU.

If you ever think of playing some games or doing some graphics-intensive work on the MB, DEFINITELY get the new one...not to mention the much-better trackpad and design.

Not all designers (creators of content) give a crap about firewire. I'm a print designer. :D But I'm sure Apple is listening to your concerns.

Dude.. The new Macbooks comes with a 1066 FSB compared to the old 667

The new Macbook comes with LED display. The old one didn't.
The new one uses faster RAM
It has a backlit keyboard.

That's a lot of improvement..The speed of the CPU from 2.4 down to 2.0 will be made by the faster bus and memory.

I'd been waiting for these updates for a long time... But I am rather disappointed and decided to buy a refurbished 2.4 ghtz macbook pro for 1440 instead. Overall, a much better deal than the macbooks.

As other said

http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbook.html

If doing it here, why not say it to apple directly to !

Here's what I said:

"I went to the grocery store the other day. I looked at buying a box of Cheerios. Picked it up and noticed it was a half inch thinner in size, a fifth less in quantity and cost a dollar more. I went for the generic brand instead.

Had the same feeling when I looked at the new MacBook this morning...."

Apple apparently has no clue regarding the number of people that found the Macbook the ideal mobile solution for a wide variety of digital audio applications largely because it had a (bus powered) 6-pin Firewire port and it had a 13" screen (vs. the larger 15" MBP).

I hope a good number of folks will let Apple know how you feel about their dropping Firewire via the Macbook Feedback page @ Apple.com.

yup especially how they dropped usb support for my yamaha cavit starting with 10.4.11... I held on to it until 10.5.3, no change, sold the cavit... grrr

Already ordered the 1599 model.

Back-lit keyboard, LED screen, 2.4 ghz, 250gb HD, Superdrive.

Perfect machine for me. Could have done with it being a little cheaper but I can live with it.

Lucky you! hope you enjoy, im hoping they will be in the stores tomorrow so i can check them out :)

Just wondering what is better about LED and what does the version of yesterday use. Besides the LED is on instantly.

i LOVED the NVIDIA chipset it was just what i was wating for im now buying a macbook instead of a macbook pro

I agree with pretty much everything you say, and am also slightly disappointed to see FW go in the MBs, as I love that interface much more than USB. I also looked forward to having a new PB 12" today.

But it seems like Apple resolved that smaller screens are NOT an alternative, and that FW is NOT a priority for the MB-targeted markets. So for those really needing it, refurb or the MBP are the choices.

For pretty much everyone else, who doesn't even know that FW exists, the MB seems like an EXCELLENT proposition which addresses ALL complaints of the past. Those denying this fact are simply ignoring 99% of the rants posted in forums like this (GPU, industrial design and LED displays).

p9500 or T9400

Has anybody figured out which 2.53 mhz cpu the new Macbook Pro uses?

Same thing with the cpu's used in the new macbook?
