For me, the auto color calibration on the Apple TV was the highlight of the presentation. I didn't expect it and it should be an incredible feature.... uh oh... incredible... I'm sounding like Tim Apple. /s
Unfortunately it won't work on projectors, since you have to hold the phone withing an inch of the screen ...

I feel like Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker all over again... Fanboys claimed desperately for change after TLJ and we got... that... I truly hope we can use the old remote with the new Apple TV! A remote that removes touch in favor of a “click wheel” is like going from the iPhone to the original iPod...
Touch is not removed

I am worried about the "jog" feature on the side of the remote, I am left handed and don't have use of my right hand.

How does LPCM retain the Atmos metadata in a 5.1.4 setup? The TrueHD track will be either 5 or 7 channel and the Atmos is not really separate. Unless I am missing something.
They use PCM with Atmos metadata in Dolby MAT 2.0 format. That already works on the existing ATV4K (it's how they output the E-AC3 Atmos tracks from iTunes movies).

I'm confused about the High Frame Rate. My current Apple TV I have set to 60hz and Dolby Vision. My new Sony supports Dolby Vision as well but up to 120hz. Been using the TV's native apps and native AppleTV app to get that in the meantime but have been looking forward to switching back to AppleTV box once the new one comes out which most all presumed would have 120hz. Saw it mention high refresh rate and since it already has 60hz, I assumed they meant as expected 120hz, but don't see it anywhere on the specs. What am I missing?

I also don't understand this. Own the current 4k model hooked up to my Panasonic OLED at 60Hz with Dolby Vision. HDR 60fps content already works, for example Netflix's F1 show is all shot at high frame rate and presented in DV. If it doesn't support 120Hz, what's new exactly?

So it looks like you need this model if you want to AirPlay Dolby Vision video shot on an iPhone 12 series. I guess now we know why that hasn’t worked for the last year even though it was suppose to.

I’m glad they returned to a click wheel. I’ve used the touch remote for years now and it’s almost always faster and more precise to tap it like a directional pad instead of swiping around, especially within apps.

I’m still surprised there is no Touch ID.

Someone should develop an iOS app that does calibration for TVs and can maybe tell how to adjust settings ie. prompt you to turn brightness up or down or colour up or down using on screen instructions.

Super excited with the new remote.
On the New ATV front, I think the 60fps is more towards support for 60fps content.
The old ATV4K did support 60fps but only supported max 30fps content.

Doesnt say too much on Youtube 4K60FPS on the Apple site.

Not sure what to make of it... i’m a bit underwhelmed by this update.
Geekbench Scores:
A12 Metal Score 5364 (New :apple:TV 4K)
A10X Metal Score 6932 (Old :apple:TV 4K)

And yes I’m subscribed to :apple:Arcade, so i would appreciate better Metal scores.
After transitioning iPad Pro to M1 they should have some spare A12X/A12Z lying around.
The new remote looks nice :)

There is no 120 Hz movie content available on consumer media or streaming services, so you wouldn't gain anything. Even 60 Hz 4K HDR material is rare (AFAIK there are only two Ang Lee movies in 60 Hz on UHD BD).

pleasantly surprised by the remote, clean aesthetic looks classy and can finally feel up from down..

not sure how useful the FaceID sensors scanning your tv will result in better calibration vs. just being placebo ware

A10x to A12 feels sorta... like a meh aspect. Though not sure how much it needs A13/14

never bought an atv4k, been using atv4 1080 since 2015 or whatever and smartTV apps

A12 has VP9 hardware decoding for youtube 4k HDR in 60fps and supports other codecs also in 60fps 4k HDR.

Might get the remote, but the new box isn’t enough to make me upgrade (I don’t game on my Apple TV, and I don’t want 60fps video playback...)

Just wondering if the calibration will be available to the previous 4K box and what iPhones are supported...

It has Thread support.

Wonder if they fixed the elevated black issue on HDR/DV content with OLED TV's. I love my Apple TV 4K but hate how dim it is with HDR/DV content on my Sony A1E.

Current model only does 4K HDR at 30hz for third party apps (source content)

I have an LG B6 and never noticed this. I've heard people talk about it but it's never seemed too dim to me.
