As a pilot, I am thrilled with this update. I just wish they still made the silicone rear case for it.

Pretty sure a spec bump also falls under update. I know everyone in this community is always looking for a radical redesign with each product update. But Apple has shown time and time again, the majority of their updates are small iterative ones. I'm fairly certain they have the R&D manpower to decide if the demand of a redesigned mini is worth the cost of making one. I'd wager a high bet it's a niche product. And they know best in how to maximize product sales through updates so they don't cannibalize their older products with newer ones.
Apple can also slow, order less, and end component production at any time since they're aware of the products they have in the pipeline and their scheduled release. They're not going to order Touch ID components in excess when half their product line has moved on to Face ID. They have teams in place to monitor supply and maximize their profits. This isn't a local market down the street that orders too many pallets of toilet paper and has to reduce the price to sell more. This is Apple, a billion dollar company with the foresight to see the changes we can't.
Because it's a refresh, it's not meant to be a full new design.
Show me a better alternative.64GB base? Apple clearly isn't bothering listening to its users anymore. This is ridiculous at this price point and pure greed.
And? Do you want a triangle iPad instead?Seems like they’ve been refreshing this same mini design for years.
Show me a better alternative.

It is and has always been, literally since the very first version of the iPad.Is this real life? It's /actually/ off centre isn't it? I'm floored.
What about the rear microphone location? I have an otterbox case on my mini 4 and wouldn’t mind saving some cash by using it for the mini 5. If they moved it or something else, I’ll need to buy a new case.
A redesign would likely have raised the price. I guess the iPad mini was intended to hit a price point first and foremost. No offense intended, but don’t be silly. Pages would look terrible on a triangle iPad. But in all seriousness, forget triangle, think iPad Pro design mini. If Apple can make the larger iPads look different and have new features, I bet they could have made the mini look like that too. If you have a current pro, many would consider the new mini a step backwards.
Apple has had years to release an updated design.
I agree. I don’t know much about the various iterations of the Apple Pencil, and when I read the Apple page for the iPad mini, it doesn’t make it clear that there are two pencils - only one of which will work.View attachment 827097 This in no way will be a customer service nightmare....
Getting cheaper over time is not really part of their plan, and never was. They are out to make a profit, every day.
it wasn't designed for users that already have a 2018 iPad Pro. i guess that the number of people that need both an iPad Mini and a 2018 iPad Pro is pretty small

I don’t think we will see an “iPad mini pro” in this regard, especially since it clearly won’t be able to accommodate the Smart Keyboard.
If you have a current generation iPad Pro, will you go back to a home button, back to lighting, back to bezels and back to the first generation Apple Pencil? I sold my first generation Pencil. Why would I go buy one again? I’m most likely in the minority but I was hoping to supplement my 12.9 with the new mini.
This thing would've been must buy if it had USB-C and 2nd gen Apple Pencil.![]()
I currently have no devices with USB-C. If the iPad mini had come with USB-C, that would be one other thing that would put me off buying it - for now. This thing would've been must buy if it had USB-C and 2nd gen Apple Pencil.![]()

I get that it would future-proof it but it definitely doesn't make it "must buy" for me.
My MacBook Pro 2018, iPad Pro 2018 and Headphones (Sony WH-1000XM3) all use USB-C so it's such a turnoff to carry multiple cables with me. At the moment I have to carry lightning cable with me because of iPhone and Airpods but I will not buy any new devices without USB-C anymore.
The USB-C is so important to me, that if 2019 iPhones do not have USB-C, I might try an Android phone.
Yeah crazy that they would increase the screen and power and all the other upgrades but not increase the price. Thank goodness.
