And? Do you want a triangle iPad instead?

LOL, reminds me of sci fi shows that would change the shape fo something, just to look moree "alien" - like square drinking glasses because round ones look just too human.

Apple iPad Mini hit again with the crazy Apple Tax hammer.
They are pricing themselves into extinction.
Well, that is assuming there’s a much better competitors right now eclipsing the iPads. Care to show us what they are?

Saw this on Best Buy this morning ^

I have the iPad from 2017. Is the new mini worth trading it in for the slightly better display and latest chips? (I do not mind the smaller screen per se).

Always loved the size of the Mini…. it's perfect. Larger than a phablet (e.g. the largest iPhones) but still smaller and more pocketable (or baggable) than all the other iPads.

It's still a bit on the expensive side …. but I'll buy one anyways. Apple listened. :)

I’m hoping that the new cases will fit my iPad mini 4. My mini is only a year so still quite snappy.

It does. On the "Accessories" web page below the (2019) Mini website, it lists the "new" Apple cases as fitting both this new 2019 Mini (referred to as "5th Generation" on Apple's own website) as well as the iPad Mini 4.

Thanks. I will treat my mini to a new case. I already have a Adonit pixel stylus that I paid around $90 for that I use with my iPad mini 4. I only use it for colouring apps. I also have an Apple Pencil that I use with my iPad Pro so don’t necessarily need the new mini for pencil support. I will use my mini 4 for another year or so to get my money’s worth and then I’ll be ready to upgrade.

I agree it’s a good update. They gave it a laminated display and pencil support and a good chip update and more ram so it will be my next mini.

I'm not sure about that. The COVER is the same, but the Apple website doesn't list any cases for the iPad Mini. At least not any that I can see. The cases for the 4 will fit physically, but I saw two posts from people (unconfirmed though) that indicated the volume buttons are slightly different sized and the mic hole is in a different spot.

But as I said, "unconfirmed".

A redesign would likely have raised the price. I guess the iPad mini was intended to hit a price point first and foremost.

I don’t think we will see an “iPad mini pro” in this regard, especially since it clearly won’t be able to accommodate the Smart Keyboard.

I think you’re right. Apple already has 3(?) iPad keyboards. I think I saw the new air with a Smart Keyboard cover plus the 11 and 12.9 folio keyboards. Probably means they wouldn’t make a 4th for the mini. Plus the aftermarket mini keyboards I’ve seen in the past felt really cramped.

The mini isn’t really “cheap”. The 64 gig might not be enough space considering the OS and stock apps take up 10-12 gigs according to Apple. So, if you go 256, add cellular and the first gen Apple Pencil your at over $930 with tax. That’s not that cheap for a device that still has a home button, bezels and uses the first gen (3 year old) Pencil.

i was tempted to buy a new ipad mini to carry it with me all the time, but it is too pricey..
- 64gb 469e wifi only (cellular 609e) - 64gb is way too little. i have no space left on my air2/64gb at all.
- 256gb 639e wifi only (cellular 779e)

779e for 256gb/cellular - not gonna happen.

As you correctly state, a marked Apple doesn't WANT to serve. Regardless of whether or not there is actual demand. Apple thinks they know best what YOU want. Always have, but it's gotten particularly bad over the past years.

Bigger is not always better. But what do I know. Apple tells me otherwise, so I must be wrong.

Have you used an iPad mini? The latest chips and a renewed display. I'l take that gladly.
Right now using mini to reply. Apple has done absolutely nothing to cheer about with their “update”. Apple on the go slow. They should have made mini incredibly lighter, thinner, not taller, removed the home button, and added pencil 2 support, not the obsolete pencil 1. And the price for mini is absolutely ridiculous. My next tablet won’t be an iPad. It’s as simple as that. Apple is taking advantage of customer loyalty.

Does anyone know the iPad mini (5) has 2nd gen TouchID. I would like to assume yes based on the beefed up specs, but with Apple you never know. 1st gen TouchID on my iPad mini 4 isn’t as reliable as the 2nd gen TouchID on my iPhone 6s which basically works 99% of the time.

Getting cheaper over time is how technology evolves and how every company makes a profit. Any company (Apple included) will only sell new products to its existing customers if it offers a new version, faster and better, for the same price of the product it intends to replace. It is expected, as prices for the components tend to go down over time.

What Apple is consistently trying to do is to increase the prices for every new product it releases as if its production costs never decreased. I am not willing to pay more for every product they launch, forever.

Again, this doesn’t strike me as a procedure at Apple. They sell most things for the same money on the day it’s released up to the day they stop selling it.
The iPad mini has received a good bunch of things that were on the wish list for many forum members.

Apologists keep being apologists. Well, obviously I'm not gonna buy it, genius. But Apple is missing out on my money, then, and these days they're all about money... well, their loss.

It's just a shame, because I love my existing Apple ecosystem...

if they included a Pencil 2, the conductive charging port would have increased the prices of the iPad mini substantially (go read Daring Fireball's mention of what would happen if they used Pencil 2) and you'd probably complain about that too.

you can deal with carrying two types of pencils. more people can't deal with price increases. Apple made the right decision.

Not everyone needs to make a fashion statement with their devices. There are still a few of us who want a device that "just works". ;)

Good grief people! No one should be paying retail price. I bought my 64GB mini 4 in September 2015, from Verizon (yes with cellular) for $329. If this new one is such a dog, based on the feedback in this forum, then prices will drop.

And yes, the mini 4 is a great iPad, even with its old processor, bezels, and off-center home button!

Ugh, now I’m a bit tempted by the deeper discounted Mini 4 w/cellular. I need one for my boat w/Navionics GPS/navigation app. I’ll probably still buy the latest model for Pencil support.

Good grief, I LITERALLY wrote that I'd throw a lot of money at Apple for that. Reading comprehension? Selective reading?

Here are the replies you wrote to me.

Tell me where you LITERALLY wrote "I'd throw a lot of money at Apple"?

There.

I would pay more for this. I would LOVE a mini-sized Pro. THAT would be a killer device for me and I'd be throwing a lot of money at Apple (but just with the iPhone SE, Apple doesn't get that some people genuinely prefer smaller devices and not because they're cheaper but for other reasons, such as small hands)

I was very ready for a new Mini - my 1st Gen hasn't really seen any light for weeks if not months because it basically has become unusable (really really really really slow).

I love that they added Pencil support...but since we own a 11" Pro, I would've loved to see Pencil 2 rather than 1.

So I guess, I'll pass.

I’m still using the iPad Air 1 and it’s in desperate need of an upgrade. I was initially eying the new pro but the price turned me way off.

If this new one the sweet spot from a value perspective or should I wait another year? I had originally hear lots of hype around the bionic gpu performance but many posters here have seemed to pupu the performance of this release specifically on graphic performance?

Where did you mention my name in this post? Nowhere. For you to accuse me of failing at reading comprehension. Nobody has time to read your entire post history. I read everything where I am tagged in. That's not "selective reading".
