Ok, I don't understand why people are so upset about the iMac upgrades...

So they raised the price slightly.

They increased the amount of memory you can have to 8gb...even coming with 4gb which i believe is more than the standard last time.

The memory is upgraded from DDR2 to DDR3

They increased the monitor size to 24"

They included a better CPU (new technology, same processor speed = better)

So they didn't put in graphics cards on the lower ends, they still included the nvidia chipset which is pretty good.

....The baseline iMacs are not meant for intense activites...that is the whole point of computer companys providing upgrades for the customer.

STOP COMPLAINING

one word - Integrated Graphics Card!!! actually three word ...:)

Still can't believe the Mini has more USB ports than the iMac.

And a 4850 in an iMac. What a dream machine at a nightmare price!

power management

Can someone please explain to me why the macbook pro offers two GPUs (discrete + integrated) and the imac once you fork over the money to get discrete graphics you no longer have the integrated graphics.

Wasn't this suppose to be on of the area where SL improves, 2 GPUs?

You iMac is always powered/connected to the mains.

The reason for 2 GPUs on the Pro was so you could run t he lower powered GPU say if you were on the road

PS: Also, you cannot run SL yet on the Pro. Its either not both simultaneously.

And extra graphics memory too (256 vs 128).

Will the 128mb be enough to handle 1080HD playback?

More than likely that's because the low end Mac Mini has 1 SODIMM on one memory channel, and the high end has 2 SODIMMs on two memory channels, and the graphics memory probably scales with memory channels in use.

Too bad, no Quad Core. Damn, the 8GB RAM is very expensive.

Should I wait 4-6 weeks for the ATI Radeon HD (instead of NVIDIA GeFORCE GT 130)?
If I was buying one, I would. But check Google for performance comparisons. I've heard the Radeons are outperforming the Geforces lately.

Do the new iMacs have an external display port?

Do the new iMacs have an external display port (to connect a laptop to the display)? I was wondering because the specs mention 1x mini display port. Are they just stating the obvious that this thing has one (internal) display port? LOL

It was £537? i got mine around that time from the Apple Store (in Manchester) for £488 with no discount.

Your price was probably with 1gb, the quoted price is with Apple fitted 2gb ram.

In real terms the base mini is better than the current mini for an extra 12 quid. I'm waiting to see what can be done, and like others tempted to wait for Snow Leopard as it'll come with the Macs then.

Also I prefer to shop at John Lewis (better warranty (and discount for me!))
so i'd probably have to wait a while. At least one good thing about the new Mini pricing, the 2nd hand value on my current 2ghz mini should be better :)

eff, i just bought a TC a little while ago. is there any chance that some of these features will be a software upgrade to the last model?

Forgive my ignorance, but are these still Santa Rosa or are they Montevina (Penryn)?

Also, reckon they'll be in stores today?

So, if I need a good GPU (but not pro), what should I Do? Buy the 24" entry level 9400M, or buy a refurb 2600XT? Which of those is better?

9400M?

Please, help!!!

I think in your particular situation, (probably others too) you will have to wait to see data from benchmark testing. It's probably your best bet to get that information first before you make a decision.

I'm bitterly disapppointed. A long time pc user, I had decided to move over to the iMac, going for 24", 3.06GHz with 4GB Ram, 1GB HDD, wireless Mighty Mouse, APP for around £1700. Planning to buy last week, procrastination and then rumours of an upgrade made me hold off. Now, I see the same model (virtually) with wireless mighty mouse and APP is now £1950. How can they justify this?

Is there any way I can still buy the model that was available prior to this 'upgrade' ?

I think I may stick with my pc and just upgrade my monitor :(

What a pathetic update- especially for the mac mini, and especially the INCREASED price. Unbelievable. Here I was thinking that leaked photo was too embarrassing to be the new mini. You'd think after 2 years maybe they'd do something to it, like change the look, form-factor, integrate AppleTV, lower the price- ANYTHING. But no, they managed to raise the price, making what was once a bad value even worse.

Snooze you lose as the old saying goes.

I like the new AEBS. I especially like the guest feature since I like to lock down my Wi-Fi and hate having to look up the Windows passcode when guests come visit.

Snow Leopard Upgrade?

Does anybody have experience with Apple giving them a free OS upgrade if it's within a certain time period of the computer purchase?

Search for refurbished on the online store and it will pull up the old ones, new and refurbished for a lot less now.

Check the Clearance and Refurbished sections often. You should be able to find an old one and even cheaper than it was priced before.
