after reading 12 pages of people angry about the pricing, all I have to say is, "this is apple we are talking about!!!" I love apple and have had tons of their computers all my life, never has their prices been cheap. People need to come to grips with that, apple=cheap does not exist. If you want cheap, build a hack/tosh

the update was needed, bravo apple

But apple used to be all about "quality" and the products had "all" that.. now the wired keyboard does not even feature a numpad? WTF...

People will allow higher price when there is a good reason for it (example UNIBODY MACBOOK) -waay less complaints about that pricing than on the new mac mini / imac..

I mean come on, it was a better deal buying a mac yestorday than today - THATS WHY people complain.

I like that they added another USB to the back.

Did they really lose the 10 key to the end of the wired keyboard though and they tapered the "foot of the iMac"?

I'm glad I have the "older" 2.8 Extreme iMac if they really did that. I only wish I had that 1066 bus instead of 667 and DDR3 instead of DDR2.

It's not the price that's the problem, it's the value. The specs are outdated and these are top-of-the-line prices. Apple of the past offered cutting edge technology with their high prices. The Apple of today is only interested in staying in the black with the tiny percentage of rich and diehard customers who keep buying their computers no matter how outdated and expensive they are.

The new machines are out and - lucky me - my life won't change a bit because of them. Once more, it's been "much ado about nothing". Despite the depressed times, Apple is still selling over-priced hardware with weak specs.

799 Euros for the "big" Mac Mini? Somebody in Cupertino's got to be kidding. Not even the form factor of the machine or its low power consumption remotely justify that price.

The iMacs are completely out of the question for me (I don't WANT an all-in-one anymore) and those Mac Pros can easily be substituted with a PC who might not be as pretty as the Mac, but certainly comes at a better value for me. There are only few who --need-- that expensive Xeon technology, and I'm not among them.

If I were in the market for a new computer, I'd submit a message to Adobe asking them to re-license my CS3 for Mac stuff to Windows versions and buy a PC with Vista x64.

This whole Apple business is just not worth it anymore.

Mac mini in UK not more expensive

In the UK in January, the price for a Mac mini was:
2.0GHz, 2GB RAM, 120GB HD, SuperDrive = £537

And now the same spec is £539, but the machine is much faster.

So that's not too bad, surely? I agree that the entry-level price has gone up, which is no doubt a shame, but pound-for-pound you're getting a better machine today than you would have got yesterday.

I'm sorry but Apple have seriously dropped the ball on this one. Desktop sales were down and putting out more expensive models won't help that.

The prices were too much before and now they are taking the mickey!

Sad sad day..

Apple's pricing on all updates = EPIC FAIL.

Someone needs to tell Apple there's a global recession.

And they took away the stinkin' remote from the iMacs and the Mac Minis???? Geeze, way to nickel and dime, Apple.

WAKE THE HELL UP!

Dude, when you look at stuff in UK versus US, it's totally ridiculous. When it was 2gbp:1usd electronics in US were like "free".

Example: my friend got the Lenovo x200 laptop for 750usd which at the time was ~375 gbp, while the price of similar laptop in uk was about 1k gbp; true, it was on sale in us (as it often is), but you never ever have lenovo on sale in uk, so i think its a valid comparison.

Example2: you can still get x200 on sale in us for 800 usd, which is now 568gbp; still pretty good versus >1k gbp you have to drop in uk, eh?

How are you not supposed to complain about this sort of stuff?

And when it comes to Apple, the only thing that makes prices remotely feasible is the education discount. 15% off + almost free apple care makes it an almost good deal; that's the only reason i'm willing to spend so much money on apple...

you actually get something for your high cost of goods ... you get a functional social system.

edit: and you don't even have to buy the iMac to get the health insurance.

It was £537? i got mine around that time from the Apple Store (in Manchester) for £488 with no discount.

I don't get you UK people. You're complaining about high prices, but you seem to completely forget how weak £ is for now. Nobody from euro countries complained before when Apple UK prices were THE LOWEST because of weak £. Now Apple made price correction, that's it. Stop complaining, take €.

It's because Apple didn't change accordingly when £1=$2.

Furthermore, these things aren't made in America. They're made in China.

Furthermore, we can't take the Euro right now, even if we wanted to. Our currency is too weak to merge.

I'm checking my bank account, and if it agrees with me, I'm getting a new Time Machine.

Oh, and I agree with the guys who say the UK pricing is insane. It always has been for Apple.

Ok, I don't understand why people are so upset about the iMac upgrades...

So they raised the price slightly.

They increased the amount of memory you can have to 8gb...even coming with 4gb which i believe is more than the standard last time.

The memory is upgraded from DDR2 to DDR3

They increased the monitor size to 24"

They included a better CPU (new technology, same processor speed = better)

So they didn't put in graphics cards on the lower ends, they still included the nvidia chipset which is pretty good.

....The baseline iMacs are not meant for intense activites...that is the whole point of computer companys providing upgrades for the customer.

STOP COMPLAINING

any one here thinks $999 macbook white is better deal than $1499 24" iMac :D :D :D

thank you apple i will wait until 32nm westmere CPU!!!

there is no reason to upgrade from 3 year old rig below!, what a shame.

damn mac mini looks better compared to 24" iMac !

Guys Im I right in thinking that apple gets its components cheaper then most of these 3rd party PC Vendors then marks them up in price far in excess of the said pc Vendors, because they can and because we have to pay everytime apple opens an artsey farstey curtain walled apple store.

upgrade to 8GB on the iMac store page = +$1000

Too bad, no Quad Core. Damn, the 8GB RAM is very expensive.

Should I wait 4-6 weeks for the ATI Radeon 4850 HD (instead of NVIDIA GeFORCE GT 130)?

£649 for the high-end mini? That is crazy pricing.

That could not have been said any better. No real re-design but an update to the specs. What a disappointment as that price is stupid high. I just bought an HP notebook for my wife with C2d, 3GB RAM, 240GB HD, 14.1" display, DVD-RW DL and much more for $399! This is silly for Apple to keep charging MORE for something that is FAR outclassed by even the least expensive PC hardware. And PLEASE do not give me this line of flawed logic that the hardware is better on the Mini as it is NOT. There is no real hardware difference between OC's and Mac's these days thanks to Intel.

I wanted to buy a new Mini but for $799? No thank you.

D

And i think i might go to the Apple store today and buy Spotlight...

Just kidding. I think you meant Time Capsule.

Can someone please explain to me why the macbook pro offers two GPUs (discrete + integrated) and the imac once you fork over the money to get discrete graphics you no longer have the integrated graphics.

Wasn't this suppose to be on of the area where SL improves, 2 GPUs?
