maybe i'm mistaken, but when i got my octo core around a year ago, i swear it cost me £2500 AFTER i upgraded the hard drive and ram (from elsewhere obviously)... now its that much for the base octo model.. something isn't right... and weren't Mac Minis £400?

surely the UK pricing has messed up, this surely can't be right.

Apart from people thinking Macs only open special versions of everything, and won't operate Microsoft Office, the main thing that puts them off is the price.. i can defend a 10-20% price difference, "macs pay for themselves in many other ways" etc.. but i don't know if i could recommend the entry level models, before they were underspecced, now the specs are better (still not mind blowing) and the things cost more?!!!!

i know its been mentioned, but this is surely the wrong time for Apple (at least in the UK) to be charging this much.. they are on the cusp of taking a significant market share of the PC market, surely they don't want to mess that up!!

The 20-inch iMac with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics processor delivers up to 2.3x faster graphics performance.1

2.4 x faster than the ATI 2600XT

arn....can we have comparsions with the previous prices and models? Might take some time, but that would be useful.

What was the pricing on the old iMacs i cant remember has the lower end got cheaper or more expensive, English store prices only please?

For the UK as of last night.

20"
£782.00 £929.00

24"
£1,125.00 £1,359.00

I know the prices are kind of disappointing for Brits in particular, but you really should blame your own ridiculously weak currency. There is nothing Apple can do about it.

This is sadly the truth. Over the past year the pound has lost almost 30% of its value against the dollar, and similar amounts against other currencies. It should not be a shock to see the price of imported goods increase.

What the F***!!!! Apple ... are you guys taking the P***!!!

£1899 ($2,734) for a 3GHz dual core machine, or £1,200 for an entry level machine that doesn’t even offer the option of improving the graphics card.

This is surely Apples way of saying goodbye to the desktop market ... I honestly cannot believe the cheek of it! Words fail me ... I've been waiting for an update for nearly a year and this is what you give us?

Before you fanboys start moaning, lets just see what £1,799 buys me from Dell ... ready ...

XPS
Quad Core i7 2.93GHz 8mb Cache 1333MHz FSB
24" Display
8GB RAM
1.5TB Drive
512MB ATI Radeon 4850 (extra £40 option to add to the Apples £1,799!)
Blueray player
... with about £100 change.

Ok ok, we all love OSX ... but Im sorry, I'd rather take a poor handling Ferrari for a drive than a well balanced Hyundai!

Apple ... congratulations for alienating your entire desktop base and for giving your credibility as innovators a firm kick in the teeth!

I’m off to buy the Dell (minus £270 as I already have a 24") and for the massive saving AND substantial increase in spec, I'll live without OSX (until I can Hackintosh that is!)

I feel exactly the same. Apple are no longer a viable choice in the desktop market, here in the UK. I've been waiting, with cash ready, for a new iMac for months, but I'm not going to buy one of these. I'm seriously looking at the Dell XPS too now, either with Linux or as a Hackintosh.

I actually think the pricing is generous to the British customers.

It should be even more expensive given how weak the pound is right now. Given how they manufacture the products, Apple shouldn't be making much in the UK sales even at this price point.

Most other PC makers aren't making ANY money in the UK sales right now, in fact, as their "profit" is worth absolutely nothing outside the UK.

That may be so but we'll see how badly those sales tank. Apple isn't exempt from the downturn.

However I predicted no-one would buy the MBA rev a and I was wrong :)

right and when the dollar was 2>1 apple were so fair wasnt they.

Greedy pack of crooks

The most obvious upgrade to Time Capsule would seem to have been a storage capacity bump ... but no. 1TB is an awful lot for some, but not for everyone. Having to stack two of these at $1000 for the extra TB just means I might have to wait a little longer before TC really makes sense for me.

Why would you buy another $500 time capsule when you can attach a ~$150 1TB external drive through the first TC's USB port?

More bang for me

Personally the new updates are going to give me more for less. The specs on the iMac that I was going to purchase are now standard so I won't have to pay the upgrade fees on drives, memory, etc..

Good update.

Well, I think that is just normal inflation.
As governments start printing money to give to the banks - who do you think is paying for this in the end...

The GT130 in the new iMac is almost identical to the old 8800GS in terms of performance - its basically the same part renumbered (Google Nvidia part renumbering for more on that fiasco!)

Apple are basically selling the same machine with a massive increase in price.

My buying advice? get one of the old 3.06GHz iMacs with the 8800 - the performance will be virtually identical and you'll save a ********.

The iMac updates are shockingly bad.

LoL Prices in Australian Store may as well have doubled just abouts. Looks like I am getting something with an i7 and maybe blu-ray. bahahahaha :D

And what do you want them to bump the capacity to? the 1.5TB seagate drives that have very poor reviews or the 2TB WD drives that are $300 OEM? How much would that TC cost?

But in a recession one would expect the prices to remain or be lower, not higher.

The base models of the Minis and the iMac are 10% more expensive in Euroland, the Euro is strong (unlike the Sterling in the UK and teh crown in Sweden which both have lost around 20%) why the higher prices for a small incremental upgrade?

The iMac costs 1099 instead of 999, for what extra?

Greedy pack of crooks

This is my point. If they honoured the £1=$2 of last year, then I would take this on the chin. As it stands, they are just taking greed to a lovely new level.

It's a bit sad that once again, the product specs and attributes have been left behind as we all (UK) look at the price and complain. This has been the way for years past and will be years to come.
