Airport Extreme

I wonder if there will be an update for previous Airport Extreme's to give them the new capabilities - Somehow, I doubt it...

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA @ the australian pricing. My brother was looking forward to getting a 20 inch one for his birthday. No ****ing way he will be now.
$2000 dollars for the entry level mac is so hilarious.
dhng

It's a joke hey - Just shopping online now but it's not gonna be at the Apple Store :D

This may be a dumb question, but from what i've read i can't figure it out.

1) Can you upgrade to 8gb of RAM for the new iMac without doing it through Apple?
2) What's the update to Time Capsule?

Old Mac mini prices in Sweden: 4995 SEK/6895 SEK
New Mac mini prices in Sweden: 6895 SEK/9195 SEK

The USD/SEK ratio has gone up a lot lately though, so it's probably not just Apple's fault. Still hurts though.

Omg!

I've been waiting for the new iMac for 3 months now. And guess what - I'm not buying it...
They must be joking! 1100 Euro for the entry model, 1400E for next in line (both of these don't even have dedicated graphics card!) and 1700 for 3rd in line (still - not ready to pay 1.7k Euro for this!).
A PC with C2D processor, GT120 GPU and no LED display??? for 1700 Euro??? I'm not recently-retired banker with 700k pounds worth pension! Such config isn't worth more than 1k Euro!
That "update" is so huge disappointment! I guess I'll never have iMac then....
And 900 Euro for update to 8GB must be a joke really...
Shame on you Apple - you've just said good bye to many customers (and wanna-be customers)...

It's interesting the 2 entry level iMac also use the 9400M. I guess it's faster than the GPU on previous entry level iMacs? Usually integrated graphics are way slow because they're using the slow main RAM, but the NVidia Chipset and faster RAM seem to help a lot. A direct comparison would indeed be nice, we'll probably see some benchmarks pretty soon.

I like how the Mac Mini Page now highlights the power savings. People don't realize Standard PCs with Desktop CPUs and dedicated graphics cards user hundreds of Watts when idling which isn't only expensive in the long run, but generates heat and fan noise, too.

My (no obsolete as of today) Mac Mini uses 11-13 Watt when idling. If you let it turn off the hard drive and activate display sleep (turns off most of the graphics chip) in the power saving prefs, you can get there.

I like not worrying about my power consumption. My Stereo uses 8 Watts on Standby, which really pisses me off. I actually unplug it now...

Hi there ... I have this difficulty here:

Endgadget and also ZDnet are reporting that "Apple refreshes iMac with Core i7" ... now how come they are core i7 processors if they are core 2 duo??!!

There mistake or am i missing something?

Still the same iMac design, where changing HDD is almost impossible. They still shove integrated graphics in a 1500€ non-laptop machine? That's a joke. DDR2 memory, not DDR3, year 2009? In a +1000€ desktop configuration? Puh-lease...

Macs are getting more and more overpriced by the day! When they changed from PPC to Intel the setups back then were actually of great value compared to the average PC. Not now.

For everyone complaining about the UK prices, one simple answer - the exchange rate. We've got rather used to £1=$2. But now at £1=$1.40, things aren't too great.

At that rate a $599 Mac Mini = £428. Then add 15% VAT, and you get £492... only £7 less than they are selling for.

So, don't blame Apple this time. My own cynical opinion is that the government is letting the £ go artificially low to help exports and discourage imports.

Even before the fall of the £ apple's pricing was way to high, so when you start saying that their pricing now works fine with the exchange rate, it didn't work out before hand, their products here never reflected the exchange rate. You have to remember to compare it to previous times

Apple never adjusted to the £1=$2 properly.

Most companies that trade between the US and UK use a £1 = $1.5 ratio. Although this is never the exact case, it's pretty much where the average has always been and allows companies to establish a stable pricing structure for pro-longed period of times.

Although, the pound - dollar exchange is weak right now, when it was £1 - $2 it was artificially high. It was somewhat a final curve in a wave before it crashed against the beach so to speak...

Finally the mini has decent graphics!! yay!!
So I'm quite tempted by the mini, but going to wait for snow leopard. I don't like the principle of paying extra in a couple months time for what's essentially a bug fix/stability release of the OS.

This update made my iPhone "snappier" ;) Kidding of course. Hey, all those saying, lame update. Maybe for you that have always had an iMac but for those that have been waiting for our first. We are happy :)

Apple can obviously price their products at whatever they like but I think sales will tank in the UK. These increases are hubristic at a time of recession. How could anyone justify £500 for a baseline mac mini?

9400M is it integrated graphics?

graphics card have been expensive i guess, IGP on $1200 machine?

Sorry some one please tell me is it year 2009?

I AM LOST HERE! :D :D :D

Help Me Understand

UK pricing is crazy. I have been sat here for the last hour waiting for the store to come back online so I can get one of the new mac minis but a price jump from £391 to £499 is ridiculous. Over $700 for a baseline box is unacceptable and they certainly won't be getting my money for it.

Doesn't UK pricing include about 18% VAT? $599 US + 18% = $706.82

At current exchange rates $US 706.82 = 503.74 GBP

You're getting a deal at 499. ;)

So, the reports of the demise of Firewire at Apple were grossly exaggerated. Only their two oldest machines, the second to low end laptop and the niche market, secondary computer laptop are without FW. Everything else has been updated since those two and includes FW, in all but one case now FW800. Any bets on the next upgrade to the 13" aluminum laptop going back to FW?

Actually all the new iMacs are using DDR3 RAM

maybe i'm mistaken, but when i got my octo core around a year ago, i swear it cost me £2500 AFTER i upgraded the hard drive and ram (from elsewhere obviously)... now its that much for the base octo model.. something isn't right... and weren't Mac Minis £400?

surely the UK pricing has messed up, this surely can't be right.

Apart from people thinking Macs only open special versions of everything, and won't operate Microsoft Office, the main thing that puts them off is the price.. i can defend a 10-20% price difference, "macs pay for themselves in many other ways" etc.. but i don't know if i could recommend the entry level models, before they were underspecced, now the specs are better (still not mind blowing) and the things cost more?!!!!

i know its been mentioned, but this is surely the wrong time for Apple (at least in the UK) to be charging this much.. they are on the cusp of taking a significant market share of the PC market, surely they don't want to mess that up!!

It seems that Apple have just kissed goodbye to taking "significant market share" & have settled for taking maximum profit margins where possible. Apple assume that any drop in sales will be more than offset by extra profits per Mac sold. All very well for Apple & their shareholders, but it hardly makes the product more attractive to those now thinking about buying a new Mac.

Price increases were generally expected, but the extent of these will disappoint many & probably influence them to reconsider their buying options. I think the new UK prices will almost certainly result in a further decline in Mac desktop sales over here.

Can those bleating on about UK prices add UK Tax before comparing it with US prices?

Cheers.
