I've been waiting for the new iMac for 3 months now. And guess what - I'm not buying it...
They must be joking! 1100 Euro for the entry model, 1400E for next in line (both of these don't even have dedicated graphics card!) and 1700 for 3rd in line (still - not ready to pay 1.8k Euro for this!).
A PC with C2D processor, GT120 GPU and no LED display??? for 1700 Euro??? I'm not recently-retired banker with 700k pounds worth pension! Such config isn't worth more than 1k Euro!
That "update" is so huge disappointment! I guess I'll never have iMac then....
And 900 Euro for update to 8GB must be a joke really...
Shame on you Apple - you've just said good bye to many customers (and wanna-be customers)...

I agree the iMac pricing is a bit off...
I guess Apple did that on purpose, to make people buy laptops and Mac Pros more. That's a way to increase laptop market share: make the desktops unattractive.

The Mac Pro Pricing seems reasonable. You get double the cores and double the RAM for a few hundred bucks.

Oh my god UK Prices WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. FORGET IT!!!
My sentiments too. I've been waiting patiently for a Mini upgrade. They can get stuffed though. I'm not forking out £499 for those specs, however much I like OSX. Just ludicrous. Same goes for the iMac pricing.

I hope people boycott them, or they get legally shafted by Hackintosh manufacturers. There's much I like about Apple, but they really do deserve a great big knock to bring them back down to earth.

Granted that's so, you'd still think that Apple would try to strike a better balance between profit margins & offering consumers value in today's economic climate. Mac desktop sales have fallen recently & after these price increases I expect them to continue falling.
Yes, I think their business model is wrong; but they are making a lot of money they well they approach things. I think many of us on here would like Apple to stop only offering products they thought of as 'premium'.

Has anyone else noticed that the low-end Mac Mini only has 128MB graphics memory available whereas the high-end has 256.

What do you all make of this?

I was gonna buy the low end and upgrade the harddrive and memory myself, but i don't wanna be crippled with smaller graphics mem.

I'm guessing and hoping that it is some sort of firmware based setting where if there is only 1GB of available memory then it sets the graphics size to 128MB, but if you whack up the memory yourself to 2GB plus, then it will allocate 256MB?

What do you reckon?

If this is not the case and the low end does indeed only have 128MB available no matter what then this is gonna suck very majorly!

Also i would like to agree with the rest of the UK users...prices over here are ridiculous!

This may be a dumb question, but from what i've read i can't figure it out.

1) Can you upgrade to 8gb of RAM for the new iMac without doing it through Apple?
2) What's the update to Time Capsule?

Time capsule update:

Well for one thing guess this shuts up everyone who said the mac-mini wouldn't have 5 usb, etc..

Didn't really expect a price drop. I think I like update enough to buy one.

Boo falling Canadian dollar... the iMacs used to start at $1299, now it's $1399.

Mac Mini starting at $729?! Ouch.

Yeah they difference isnt that much, I can see people driving over to the Detroit area from Windsor and taking them back for that. Though this morning its pretty close US599=774 Canadian, so technically they are cheaper in Canada.

Graphics downgraded, Price goes up. ...no wonder they did it quietly.

I paid a £1,050 for a better imac 6 months ago - suppose I should be happy.

Good time to buy the imacs/minis listed on ebay by the "forward thinkers".

Personally the new updates are going to give me more for less. The specs on the iMac that I was going to purchase are now standard so I won't have to pay the upgrade fees on drives, memory, etc..

Good update.
That's because their old iMac was 1 YEAR OLD and the price never changed.

£649 for a mac mini, the greenest desktop in the world.

2.0ghz Dual Core, 2 GB, Shared graphics, 320GB, DVD Burner, no monitor, nothing, but amazing form factor and an amazing OS.

£649 at Dell

2.33ghz Quad Core, 3GB, Dedicated GPU, 500GB, DVD Burner (option to upgrade to BR), 2yrs in home warranty, and oh yeah an amazing 1080p 21.5" Monitor, a keyboard and mouse. and likely no need to buy adapters to plug in monitors/HDTVs.

Personally to me Mac Hardware is worth every penny and i don't mind paying a premium, but that's because i know how good the software and hardware can be, and i'm straight up an Apple geek, but how will potential switchers ever know what the fuss is without being able to buy a bleedin' mac?! very few people want to spend 30-40% extra just to get a smaller form factor and an apple logo, very few people can even afford to do that, especially right now. 4 out of 5 people will say "for the same price i get more specs, and a HD monitor?!! but it will take up a bit more room on my desktop and i will need to buy an anti-virus program.. umm let me think, for the £300 saved i can buy a bigger desk, and lots of anti-virus programs, and still have enough money leftover to get completely wasted this weekend"

And thanks to the Intel switch, hackintoshes are easier than ever to do.. i honestly wonder what is going on at Cupertino sometimes.. i know people will still buy, but you can't help but think more would buy if they were just a bit more aggressive with their pricing, god knows they can actually afford it unlike a lot of other companies.

Prices, prices, prices....what are they thinking abot - Talk about Apple rail roading their dedicated customer base into at least seriously considering a Hackintosh! UK pricing just looks ridiculous when compared to the competition.

HOWEVER....I would stretch to it if the tech spec justified it but for what you're paying it just does not add up. At the prices Apple are charging for the iMac you'd expect cutting edge processors, dedicated GFX memory, LED display etc. etc.

I honestly think this is some sort of intermediate revision prior to a more substantial update in the next 6 - 9 months (fingers crossed) otherwise I might even resort to the Hakintosh option.

Bummer - I was hoping Snow Leopard and new Macs would come out at the same time. Kind of a pain to get a new machine now and have to upgrade the OS in 2-3 months...

I do not like the new Wired Keyboard. Luckily the wired with Numeric Keypad is still the same price.

Nice to see a bump in Memory and HardDrives...my iMac of October is still good for me but those increases are nice.

And yes, Apple is an expensive computer. Also back when the US was really starting to feel the crunch of the "economic doom" Apple stores were quite busy.

I'm impressed with the price complaints (mainly from the UK) - the pound is falling like a rock, at least 20% over the last year vs the Euro and the dollar is almost 20% up vs the Euro in the same year - what did you expect??!!

And your prices are still 10% or so lower than here in Denmark (admitted we have our own currency, the Kroner, but it follows the Euro firmly).
I certainly agreed that Macs are expensive, but that's not news and even while Apple is also selling fewer units these days their marketshare has been growing for years, despite their pricing, so I don't think the current pricing corrections will have any major impact on their sales, compared to the outlook with yesterdays models.

Harddrive upgrades are expensive, as always with Apple, but I'm seriously thinking of getting a Mini anyway. Might wait for Snow Leopard and check if memory + drive can be user-upgraded easily?

the all-in-one is what you are paying for. Its unfair to compare prices with a box that sits under your desk, as that will be cheaper to make.

Having said that, I do think apple risk losing customers with their reliance on the all in one imac as their main desktop solution - the mini is a lovely computer but I don't see apple taking it seriously.

The pro is so expensive, there is plenty of room for a basic box under the desk with OSX on it without cannibalising pro sales. The economy is right for something like that too.
