Before the whiners and yourself go discounting the new display, don't you think you need to see it in person. You are comparing it to the cheap low-res, non-LED backlit, glossy displays of the old MB.
Have you ever worked with a MBA? It has a high-res, LED, backlit display and it is beautiful and performs well in most lighting situations. Most of the reflections that you see in photos of glossy displays are a result of photographing a glossy display. To the user, the reflections are barely noticeable.
I think the biggest reason people see this as a big loss, is that for the last year or two, some have hung on to the misconception that Apple displays were better than Sony Vaio displays because Apple displays were professional matte displays while Sony used LED glossy displays. The fact is that Sony was ahead of Apple in display technology and now Apple is finally catching up.
well said! I use the MBA at home and when I am out and about shooting (most recently in Italy in full-on sunlight. apart from when I had the near noon sun directly behind me, I hard noticed. And to be honest until today I didnt even think the screen was'glossy'. Not that I dont know the difference, just that it hadn't annoyed me in any way.
I think people should go take a look at the screen. Its a shame they try to make the advertising material look so 'pretty' that they chose to highlight the gloss effect with 50/50 clear/reflective images of the screens.
I know a matt screen is best for colour work etc (its why I have a dell 30"), but on the notebook I am fairly sure it wont be that bad at all (I, of course reserve the right to amend that statement when I finally get my grubby mitts on a new MBP)
