im surprised you're still using safari...

I gave up on Safari years ago, it just doesn't cut it I'm afraid, same with Apple Mail. I use 3rd party email clients who appear to know just what the user wants. I always use Chrome and FF.

Safari isn't my main browser for a long time ago. But when I'm traveling, I'm using safari. Chrome is also useless to me, I have been using Opera for more then 15 years. Then they killed presto, and now Opera is basically like chrome so I've stopped using it and switched to Vivaldi.

But nothing can compete with Safari energy efficiency. Nothing. For battery life alone I'm forced to use it while I travel. And my MBP doesn't get that hot like when using Chrome for example.

On my iMac Vivaldi is the only browser I use and will use.
I just wish they could make stupid zoom feature into Safari. But I guess not.

..

Now before I get loads of replies from people saying they've changed their router and its still borked... ...I know this may not work for everyone and "perhaps" there is really something wrong with the way Apple is doing WiFi but seriously, I've had not one drop out since the router change... just saying. :)

I had all kinds of WiFi problems when I upgraded my Core 2 Duo iMac to a newer aluminum model. I recently upgraded my Gen 2 Apple router to a Gen 5 version. So far it seems to be ok. That said, Apple introduced something post Snow Leopard that caused Wifi issues period. You see the thing about a standard properly implemented is that it will always work.

As a comparison, I've had zero problems connecting my 20+ year old Mac IIci to the internet.

I do wonder why people beat on Safari all the time. I find it the most stable of the browsers I use and it seems to work on most sites.

Same here. Safari is my main browser for general use and FF is my "anonymous" browser, which doesn't save cookies, has no plug-ins etc.. although next version of FF might change things when it starts to provide advertisement...

LOL, so Im not the only one that does that. I use OmniWeb. as I like the look of the tabbed view;

I don’t believe it takes extensions like FF does tho.

It's clunky, ill thought out and to slow to die sudden. Other than that though it's fine.

I don't see these issues on my machine... I haven't tried out the new Chrome update that is supposed to help battery life, but I use Safari mostly because Chrome killed my battery.

Oh right. I’m not being funny but genuinely I’m wondering what you mean by those three;
  1. Clunky.
  2. Ill thought out.
  3. Slow to die sudden.

Looks like they have taken out all disk burning in the redesigned disk utility.... bummer.... I used that a ton for quick burning of video project etc.

Also I don't see a option to repair disk permission :) I know some people think that fixes everything lol what will they do

What a very crappy name for an OS indeed. What I’m wondeirng is will it require a new versions of Parallels?
All the rest seem to.

EDIT: Oh god! I’ve just seen that installing to PD10 produces a kernel panic. This means a definite PD11 release and associated charges.

I'd make an educated guess that PD10 will be [eventually be] compatible with 10.11. It seems like Parallels provides compatibility from the OSX released at the time of the new PD, through one additional major release. Like PD8 was the ML release and it works solid in Mavs, and PD9 works from Mavs through Yosemite.

re: The name

I've had a number of communications regarding 10.11, and when I don't use the version number, I've been using LC or L-Cap :D

Maybe there is a debug menu where those features are hidden? Have a look at the prefs?

There is no disk utilitiy repair-disk-permission-option anymore as it will be performed automatically during system updates -see release notes.

I can't believe that no one had thought of the universal mute button before. I try and leave ads on to support my favorite websites but auto playing audio and video is one of my biggest pet peeves.

Stupid, stupid, stupid name... Never name things with something that many people are not sure how to pronounce - Capitain, Capitan, Capitaaan etc. When I heard it announced, I thought it was some silly name that everyone was supposed to laugh at before they revealed its actual name. Sadly, it wasn't...

Of course. Nothing wrong that it works out for you, I'm pretty glad it does. But everyone has their own preferences, and I'm not that lucky.

Safari is pretty much useless without the zoom feature to me. And that is only the basic feature that every other browser supports. It's not like I'm asking for saving/loading sessions, tab stacking, per site preferences, better windows management, etc.

Those all or for power users. But zoom level is pretty basic. Actually, I can't think of anything more basic then that unless if you count rendering web sites a feature :D

I like Safari because I can tap and zoom and move back and forth between pages with touchpad .. in FF it is not either possible or it's badly executed. Chrome I just avoid - because of Google collecting way too much information.

I don't get what you are refering to. If I want to zoom the page I just move my two fingers across the Trackpad. This is ajustable unlike the smart zoom feature where you double tap the Trackpad. Does Vivaldi has a differente zoom feature?

I see a lot of posts in these forums about WiFi issues on the Mac (and iOS) and lots of moaning about Apple not bothering to fix them with every new release.

You would have thought that "if" Apple knows that they have a problem with WiFi that is reproducible on a lot of systems, then they would want to sort it out.

I used to get these WiFi issues as well and because I could see other people had them too, I thought, well it must be the software. However, I recently changed my WiFi router (upgraded it to a dual band Billion one) and all my WiFi issues went away!

Now before I get loads of replies from people saying they've changed their router and its still borked... ...I know this may not work for everyone and "perhaps" there is really something wrong with the way Apple is doing WiFi but seriously, I've had not one drop out since the router change... just saying. :)

I've had zero issues with wifi using the following, Apple Airport Extreme, Apple Airport Express, and Ubiquiti UAP-AC.

Since this just seems like an "under the hood" improvement to Yosemite I'll probably grab it for my 2011 iMac but I think I'll probably be stopping here. As much as I love new software, it seems like these days apple is more concentrated on making OS X feel like iOS and leaving power users behind.

Also, time to start referring to OS X by numbers instead of names. Yosemite was weird enough it this is too much.

"Opera is basically Chrome" and then "I use Vivaldi". I'm assuming you don't see the irony there.
