Whomever designed this iMac should be FIRED!!
What a complete failure!
from a bad external design- No Height adjustment, white ugly bezels, big chin, no 28-30 option.

To the internals
M1 processor, same as the iPad
Ram not user upgradable
Ships with 8GB RAM in 2021, really?
Only 2 ports in the small version

This is so Apple tho.

Oh, you wanted less bezel, SURE! except, now it's GLARING WHITE SO IT'S UNMISTAKABLE!! HAHA.

No chin? Here is extra chin with extra cheese. You thought the only reason we'd KEEP the chin is so we could KEEP the Apple Logo on the front of the device, didn't ya?

NO LOGO 4 U!!!!!!!

For myself, a computer is a tool and how it looks is so far down on the priority list I don't know that it even makes the list.

My wife who is much more driven by aesthetic, commented that should would not want to see the chin go away because then you wouldn't see the color from the front.

I do think the different colors are appealing to people, but if it's essentially just an iPad on a stand, the only color is the stand.

Not sure if the amount of vitriol aimed at the design of a computer is more amusing or disturbing...

No, that's just a tired and trite explanation that is 2 years old. It doesn't fit with the current landscape.
The explanation is still very much true. Nothing has changed.
Look at the products released so far for Apple Silicon.

What remains are the Pro products. A Pro level iMac and Pro level MacBooks. These machines will be the first ones to use something other than M1.
Short reminder that there is already a 13" Macbook Pro, which uses the very same chip as the other M1 devices.

No, Apple will clearly stick to their current scheme: Macbook Air, Macbook Pro (two sizes, two performance levels), Mac mini, Mac Pro, iMac (two sizes, two performance levels).

Whatever beefed up iMac model Apple will release in the future, it will keep the same naming scheme as today: iMac [some size larger than 24"].

No iMac "Pro" anymore.

Without a chin where else would people leave a sticky note with their password on it?

Ethernet is NOT in the power supply for the base model. This is a mistake people keep making here and hopefully no potential buyers see it and order the wrong thing.
Thanks for that catch - I must have missed that from the presentation.

No touchscreen? Arrgh!

I know its horses for course, but I don't get the thing about a touchscreen on a desktop, or even a laptop. Its a solution to a problem with a phone and tablet, that isn't really a problem on a desktop or laptop. I can't even reach my iMac screen in my set up.

^ This is incomprehensibly ridiculous. No one should have to do that in order to connect their Apple phone to their Apple computer.

It does involve taking personal responsibility. None of my Apple computers came with cables. I had to purchase them. If you really want to use 25 year old USB-A cables because you insist on not having to purchase a $3 cable, I'm sure there are computer manufacturers out there that still offer USB-A ports.

For those of you whining about the 'chin'... you do realize that it's necessary to put chip, motherboard and heatsink/cooler there... right? You can't put them beneath the display, or put it where the stand is.

Also, for those using Macs to do real work, that chin is a nice place for sticking Post-it notes.

If you already own a Mac, I don't think you should upgrade. We're still in the Apple silicon 'transition period', so waiting for the software devs to update their code. And the M1 is a first gen product. Give it another year, wait for the M2 chip.

I was ready to jump on this iMac (I like design too), but I own an M1 MBP and possibly an iPad Pro, so I’d like my next desktop Mac to be more powerful than my existing machine(s). 16gb of RAM is not enough.

I have to admit I don't really understand the howls of rage about the chin. I wouldn't miss it if it was gone but it doesn't particularly bother me either, especially considering I've been using iMacs with a chin for about 15 years.

That’s just stupid. Do you think I should replace my scanner, printer, second keyboard and mouse (the ones in front of the other monitor) and my CD reader because it’s 2021?
Just buy a new cable for those without captive cables. Good grief, I’m tired of listening to the excuses. Most monitors have a USB hub built in, swap out the cable to the computer. Adapters are cheap, docks aren’t that expensive if you REALLY need that many USB-A ports with your devices connected ALL the time.

I thought they were pretty boring at first glance but they're growing on me.

I'll probably replace my 2016 Macbook Pro with one of these once it starts showing its age or start falling apart on me.

Love the screen size. My 24" 2008 iMac was perfect and when they moved to 21.5" and 27" options I never really cared for either. 21.5" felt a bit too small and 27" was a bit too large.

And man oh man I have no idea how I'd pick an iMac color. Blue matches my current iPhone, Orange is probably my actual favorite color of the bunch, Green is the closest to the old Bondi Blue '98 iMac.

I like the retro colours but the white border and coloured chin look ugly. They should have stayed with the colours on the back and made the front all screen like most people wanted.

No M1 replacement for the iMac 27"??? VERY disappointing. Hoping Apple does not intend to force those of us who need the larger (>= 27") display to upgrade to a horrifically expensive Pro model!
God, this is getting so boring. Tim Cook announced that the whole .Mac range would switch to Silicon over the next two years. We are in month 6 or 7 since that announcement. Apple has now replaced all the low-end Macs with M1 Macs.

Compared to the previous low-end iMac you have a much faster CPU, a much much faster GPU, a powerful AI chip, much improved camera, USB-C, and a much larger monitor with 36% more pixels than all the 4K displays that you can buy.

the first iMac, Bondi blue, was $1299. It was derided for lack of ports. It was seen as a “toy” by professionals.

It sold like crack, spawned numerous copycats, and revolutionized computer design going forward, both in color and form.

A lot of people in here are missing the point and the reactions are common to the original iMac launch (you know, the colored one with a CRT in it) from the people used to Quadras and PowerMacs.

It's not one for us, the ones looking for a powerful machine, iMac pro-like power user device.

This one is for the 90% of the audience who want a bright and colourful mac for day-to-day stuff, a mac for the living room and for classes. And it's going to sell like hotcakes.

Imagine all the time saved if people hadn’t been complaining about USB a ports for the last <checks notes> five ****ing years. Good god.
