Apple looks to be playing the nostalgia card with the multiple colours. The colours are interesting, but I would stick with silver for myself. I don’t mind the design, but I would have preferred black bezels. I also would have preferred a thicker chassis with no chin.

The lack of ports on the entry level model is f*****g inexcusable at this price point. This is the same crap they pulled with the MacBook redesign a few years ago. What I’m waiting to see on April 30th is if the models can be ordered with more RAM and storage space. I would also want a keyboard with numeric keypad, which should be standard at this price.

I like Apple, but they can be so cheap on the stupidest things.

Design downgrade (IMO), no ethernet, smaller than the 27", no user upgradeable RAM... no thanks.
There IS ethernet, and this is a replacement for the entry-level 21.5" iMac, you have to compare it to that so user upgradeable RAM was never in the cards for this particular model.

The 27" refresh (whatever size it will be) will come later in the year.

Ok, read through the first few pages of comments .... I'm gonna say it. Even if I'm alone.

I LOVE the new design. It's 99% perfect. -1% for the straight stand, I preferred the tapered one, it looked more harmonic.

I actually did a happy dance over the white bezels. I missed the white iMac ever since they switched to silver/black in ... 2007? I don't mind what everyone calls the "chin", not even at all.

The colors look refreshing and I've been wishing for colors since forever; I loved the colorful iMac back in the 90s.

This whole thing made me go "wow". It's sexy af.

The only thing I'm missing is a space grey/black option. And 27" (or up) screen size. I'm currently at a 27" iMac and won't go smaller. So I'm gonna hold out hoping they'll offer a second size eventually (I suspect they haven't solved heat issues with such a large size just yet?). But damn, I'm so gonna buy this once they hopfefully offer one. I like the blue. Would have looooved a dark teal one, but you can't have everything. Still hoping for spacegray/black eventually.

They’re probably trying to reconcile the size/title/colour scheme across their line up. Standard size/power in bright colours... then larger/beefier ‘pro’ size in more serious colours. And what are the chances we’ll see a 21 inch low-spec browsing machine called iMac SE a year from now?

The screen bezels ARE smaller...but I realize they did white/no logo because it looks VERY similar to the old iMac design. If the bezels were black and they kept the chin/logo, it would be the SAME thing to any passerby, this is marketing. "What is that? THAT is the new iMac?"

Also some of you don't understand how 8 and 16gb RAM runs with M1 chip.

This ain't ya grandmama's Intel.

You're not the only one. In most of my whatsapp groups with non techies (friends, families, customers) I'd say around 90% of them love it, especially the colours. I saw a lot of messages like "That one goes great in the living room with X color" and "The blue one is perfect with my accent wall".

Consumers are going to eat it like hotcakes. Prosumers? Well, this thread here is for them and we see how they react to it.

I really do not like this design. I kind of hoped for an iPad Pro slapped on that stand. From iPhone, to Apple Watch, to iPad they all have very small black bezels and rounded corner displays. On this iMac redesign the bezels are still pretty large (and white), the chin should not be necessary (remember, they can put a great speaker system in the iPad Pro without a chin, so a better one should be possible on the iMac even if it needs to be thicker). I would have also like a slightly rounded screen like on iPad Pro. Instead the display is square, the aluminium body is less rounded than the last iMacs and the keyboards are now super rounded. Maybe it looks better in person, but I'm really not happy right now. Usually you kind of know what Apple hardware will look like. This is the complete opposite, besides the squared-off design, of what people imagined.

It's totally not necessary to put the whole computer into that chin. Just make it twice as thick and have a better looking front.

Some smaller tidbits:

- What's up with the randomly placed headphone jack on the bottom-left side of the iMac?
- The glass extends all the way over the chin so it will have some kind of glossy plastic look?
- No Face ID

This is truly the first Apple product in over 10 years that I do not like on first sight. It's just the complete opposite of what Apple has been doing the last few years. This is also one of the first products to get a redesign without Jony Ive.

For those of you whining about the 'chin'... you do realize that it's necessary to put chip, motherboard and heatsink/cooler there... right? You can't put them beneath the display, or put it where the stand is.

Also, for those using Macs to do real work, that chin is a nice place for sticking Post-it notes.

If you already own a Mac, I don't think you should upgrade. We're still in the Apple silicon 'transition period', so waiting for the software devs to update their code. And the M1 is a first gen product. Give it another year, wait for the M2 chip.
Someone better tell iPad Pro it's missing it's chin!

Nothing like scumming up your aesthetic new colorful iMac with garbage post-it notes! Imagine if there was an app included for these types of things!

Prosumers? Well, this thread here is for them and we see how they react to it.

I'd challenge that.

Macrumor users are notorious for criticizing "Apple anything". I'd argue most users in this thread aren't what you'd call Prosumers. They're just complainers. Complaining on a "just because" level. I've been a Macrumors user for a reeeaaally long time. It's the same spiel everytime Apple comes out with something new.

I'm a prosumer. I love it. Besides.... real prosumers don't care as much about design and more about specs. But everyone here in this thread is complaining about the "chin" because it looks "dated" ... go figure. It's like all the iPhone threads where people complain about no drastic design changes ... because now people wouldn't be able to tell from afar with only a quick glance that someone has the latest and hottest Apple device.

The headphone socket on the side is super-annoying. I use a pair of Bose desktop speakers which discreetly plug into the back of my 2015 iMac. Will I have to have the speaker jack permanently jutting out of the side of the new machine?

Yeah. Some of us actually use our Macs to...god forbid ... work. I want to see my processor-hungry program run on an iPad. Oh wait, I can't ... because they require a fullblown OS and....power. Producing quite a lot of ...heat.

Apple's digital post-it's are garbage. I used Dashboard post-it's A LOT, because I could easily access them from every virtual desktop. Oh ... that's right, some of us have like 10 virtual desktops going at once. I don't want to go searching for my digital post-it's all the time.

Also, sometimes it's just easier to have an actual real-life post-it. Shocking, I know. Because... well... productivity>aesthetics. For some of us an iMac isn't just a design piece in our living room.

You misspelt “whiners”

90% of those complaining are whining about how it’s smaller or less capable than a machine it doesn’t replace, and a hefty chunk are complaining about the specs they haven’t bothered to go read.

This is not about consumer vs prosumer views. I’m definitely not in the target market for this, and the colours aren’t what I’d choose really. But I’m also not complaining that it can’t replace a Xeon iMac Pro or a 64GB intel mini etc.

For the record I am a Prosumer, this is just my opinion on this consumer product.

I really like the design. I don't know why everyone cares about the chin, its not that big of a deal. Sure they could have made it a bit thicker and taken it away but that's just a design decision and everyone will always have some reason to complain.
Overall I like the direction and am excited for it to come to the pro market with a beast of a processor. I think the colors are great because they fit and people will buy them. If you don't like color, get silver. Pro products from apple are always silver, space grey, and gold, so I am going to hold out for space grey. Additionally I will hold out for the 27 (maybe 30") version. I am a single monitor user and 24" is too small for me.
Now that they have finished removing Intel from their consumer line of products, I can only imagine the pro market is next. So I am really looking forward to that (although I have to admit I was really looking forward to updating my 2015 27" soon, oh well)
The one thing I wish that they had done is to add more ports to the power brick. Adding the ethernet port to the brick was a great way to reduce clutter but I feel like they could have easily added a USB C/Thunderbolt port to it. Then I could attach some external devices that I never unplug to the brick and save myself some clutter on the desk.

At the end of the day, all you people who are complaining about this iMac will have this one or the pro one eventually so might as well get used to it! 😂

Same here. I plug in to an external amp and speaker system...

The chin... why? :(

What's up with the Chin?

The perfect chance to get rid of the chin...

IT STILL HAS A CHIN?!?!?!WHY!!!

Oof...The chin 🤮

But still why that hideous chin? 🙀

The chin and bezels are really from a bygone era. Come on Apple, it’s 2021.

The 'chin' is where the compute unit, speakers and cooling fans/exhaust/inlets are. It literally said and described this during the video.

The rest of the chassis is just for the display and antennas.
