This is an absolute joke right?

From a practical standpoint, let me share a few things:

  1. I own a fall 2021 imac, the i9 version with the 16gb video card option
  2. I also own an M1 based macbook pro
The imac is now a macbook pro.

It is actually in many ways quite a downgrade from the intel based mac if you are using the machine to multitask and do a lot of heavy production work.

Daily I get warnings from cleanmymacx that tell me that my macbook is running out of ram and swap space, and although the graphics on the m1 are fast, they do not hold their own vs the radeon in the imac.

The fact that I cannot even get the new imac with more than 8gb of ram is a big misstep, and I do not say this as a troll or mac hater, because I was prepared to buy the arm based silicon and likely would have had it had a bigger ram option.

Apple, I seriously hope you can consider that we professional creators are still out there and are still willing to pay $4000 for a machine.

This today was not what I had expected, perhaps the fall event will give me what I am after.

I'm going out on a limb here saying this really is just the "consumer" line and pro-appropriate models will come later this year, including a larger screensize.

Everybody complaining about the chin. Do you really think that that is the bigest problem with these machines? Just look at the prices. I know that the M1 is good, but this is hybris. How can they charge so much money for 8GB RAM and 256 GB disk? In 2021 for f***s sake! Those machines will totaly ruin their SSDs after a year of heavy usage because of all the swapping. If you choose 16GB and 1TB disk the prices will be insane. Has Apple totaly lost touch with reality? If they have these prices on entry model iMacs with these specs, I can't imagine what they will charge for the future pro models... They will probably max out at 32 GB RAM and cost over 4k. Much better going with a 16GB macmini, now that they also added option with 10GB ethernet.

You own a ”fall” 2021 iMac?

How is that possible?

There will be an option to spec the M1 iMac with 16gb of RAM, once orders open. I intend to buy one, and I also own an M1 MBP.

These new iMacs look fantastic and as much as the colors harken back to when Apple launched their first line of iMacs in colors, the modern thin form factor almost looks like it came from the future. I may just have to pick one up as a replacement for the 2013 21.5 iMac I retired last year (a work computer that has been gathering dust as I shifted to using my iPad Pro 12.9” as my daily driver). Thank goodness Jony Ive retired, allowing Apple to shift to a more modern design scheme.

We are so buying this for the almost 90 year old parents. Once we sign them up for Musk's satellite internet, they'll need a better facetime machine because they will have more than 2 mbs connection. Is there a new print shop for mac M1?

Apple looks to be playing the nostalgia card with the multiple colours. The colours are interesting, but I would stick with silver for myself. I don’t mind the design, but I would have preferred black bezels. I also would have preferred a thicker chassis with no chin.

The lack of ports on the entry level model is f*****g inexcusable at this price point. This is the same crap they pulled with the MacBook redesign a few years ago. What I’m waiting to see on April 30th is if the models can be ordered with more RAM and storage space. I would also want a keyboard with numeric keypad, which should be standard at this price.

I like Apple, but they can be so cheap on the stupidest things.
I also want to order in silver, and hope (expect) they will offer the option to upgrade the RAM to 16gb.

I fully expect that will be the case.

Additionally, I will also want the keyboard with numeric keypad, but knowing Apple, that’ll be some extra coin.

Why do people seem to be surprised every. single. time. that Apple Macs are expensive? This *really* is nothing new.

I paid >2000 for my 2006 iMac (21"). I paid >2000 for my 2012 iMac (27"). I paid almost 2500 for my 2016 iMac (27") and that's with edu discount. And none of those had maxed out specs. Those new ones starting at $1250 really isn't that bad, actually.

Guys, it always makes me laught when most of you Americans cry that "it's expensive". In our small european country we have 1/5 average salary than you have and the prices are even higher then yours (2226 usd for this entry iMac). And people are buying apple products here like there is no tomorrow.

Gross. Why keep the chin? Not a fan of the color options. The Thunderbolt and USB C situation is....interesting.

Super disappointed by this and if I were in the market for a 27 inch iMac, I would be concerned.

Price hiking certain colors is one of the most ridiculous fkn things I’ve
The 'chin' is where the compute unit, speakers and cooling fans/exhaust/inlets are. It literally said and described this during the video.

The rest of the chassis is just for the display and antennas.

Oh please like they couldn’t have figured out a way to put that behind the monitor. It’s got half the guts of the iPad Pro

You expected high-end Macs despite no evidence they were coming? That's on you, not Apple.

Just get this:

That’s still going to stick out of the side which won’t look great. Why not put it with the rest of the ports at the back? The headphone/speaker jack is the one port I *never* need to change, yet it’s the one they’ve given us easy access to. Very odd design decision.

I assume the required depth of the 3.5mm is greater than the depth of the iMac itself.
