It’s a visual distraction to some, just like the notch on iPhone is to others. There’s no wrong or right here.
I do wonder however why they have to be so large.
So the iPad Pro has the same processor, a better display and is also thin - but has small bezels and no chin. Apple’s Mac engineering team really missed it with this one. The old model looks better IMO.
As it’s likely that the Ethernet cable will come from a floor or wall socket you don’t have to run it all the way up the desk. I think it’s really just to have less desk clutter.
There’s also no Apple logo on the front of iPhone, iPad or MacBooks. From that perspective they have achieved a more unified approach to their branding.

It that I’d miss that feature when there’s a nice convenient Touch ID build into the keyboard, but that’s just me.

Apple doesn’t care about design any longer. Those days are gone and began with The Notch. It’s what happens when you settle for bad design, now they know they can get away with it.
if more storage is needed an external SSD is extremely fast and who in 2021 still stores all there data on the iMac/MacBook Pro/etc. HD.
The G4 iMac did indeed come with two satellite speakers from harmann for a while. There was an optional subwoofer that was also later used with the Sounsticks from H/K.
Later this year they will introduce the iMac Pro, and yes it will be called the Pro, which will replace the current 5k 27" iMac which will have the upgraded specs everyone yearns for. This 24" replaces the low end introductory 21.5" 4k iMac so why would you expect it to be loaded with all the features, upgrades. The 27" is the flagship iMac.
Love the chin, its a signature item and also extremely useful for posting items to it. The generic LCD monitor will tiny bezels all around are not useful for posting items to it and are just plain generic and minimal.
If people hate the iMac with the chin then buy the Mac mini with a generic boring LCD monitor.

I don’t think so but still nicer than having the entire Mac dragged off the table in a worse case scenario.
Disagree. I still have USB-A external drives, printers, and ScanSnap scanner. Dongles and hubs are annoying at best and often are buggy and unreliable. A desktop should not need dongles and hubs.
There is nothing wrong with progress and adding the new ports. But Apple has plenty of room for two USB-A ports. They don't hurt anything. Same with SD card reader.
There is a time and place for evolution vs revolution. This is not 1998 Apple where removing the floppy drive was viewed as courageous, future-looking and frankly, gave Apple press (even if negative press), which in '98 Apple really needed.
I get that this is the consumer/low-end iMac. I hope they do much more with the higher end models.
i guess for the simple reason that this 24" model is all we know for the moment — there was no hint of another model being introduced later on, this is purely speculation(which i'm sure can and will hopefully be true). and also if i was in the market for an imac right now — i would be incredible disappointed.
Students - which won't be able to install anything as schools typically lock down their devices
Teachers - employees of a school
Some businesses will have these and they will also be locked down
Parents - I don't think my mom or dad is wanting to play Cyberpunk 2077 thank you.
Gamers are NOT the target for these systems. NOT AT ALL. What gamers need are the RTX 30xxs. Do these even have an NVIDIA GPU?
You downloaded the Justice League movie? It's on HBO Max as streaming only, are you saying you got it illegally? I watched it, it didn't take up 30 GB on my device as its streaming.
