In the UK, the higher config with 512GB SSD, 10-core GPU and the 35W dual USB-C charger (as that is standard with that option) is £1,549. That's a decent bump up in price, and I bet the next 14"/16" Pros are going to shift up similarly.

Another pressing concern I have is: will there be a penalty we aren't aware of if we go with the 8-Core GPU model, ala 1 cooling fan instead of 2 (or something of that nature)?

Apple has done this in the past and people tend to only find out after YouTubers take the machines apart.

It’s just the binned chip with 8 GPU cores and there’s no fans in the MBA.

I was just using the fan as an example. When the 24" M1 iMac came out no one knew that it only had 1 fan, it was a nasty surprise that wasn't (and I'm pretty sure still isn't) listed on apple's website. Only the lack of Gigabit Ethernet and Magic Keyboard with Touch ID is listed.

For the M2 Air, I can see the 8-core GPU model has a 30W USB-C Power Adapter option, I just wonder if there are any other differences that aren't officially listed.

Coming from a 2015 Pro which won’t receive Ventura, this is perfect for me.

I’ll be getting the entry M2 Air in Midnight which I predicted was the blue one in the Gurman thread the other day along with Starlight as the “champagne” colour he mentioned.

I don’t understand how this is constantly brought up. They WANT you to buy a pro for pro features.

Why does everyone constantly expect Apple to suddenly offee these features at their base model price points? The entire point is to allow everyone across tax brackets to join the ecosystem. They’re never going to stop doing this.
"suddenly" LOL

Check your facts. The Air has supported dual monitor output for a few years since 2018, and the Pro has support since at least 2012. What actually happened was that Apple "suddenly" removed existing features since 2020.

I agree that there should be one of the USB-C ports on each side and the audio jack should be on the left side with mag safe port. Have any of Apple's recent laptops had an audio jack on the right side?

And I know so many people connect thru bluetooth/wirelessly, but still...

My 2020 Intel MBA has the 3.5mm headphone socket on the right. I use it regularly as I only have wired headphones, although the cable then crosses over to connect to my left headphone. Annoying!

I'd also like it if the USB sockets were split left and right, but Apple just do it as cheaply as possible and I believe it's just one controller that does them both, hence why they're next to each other.

Welp, was going to go for the 14" mbp but the midnight mba might have stolen that spot and it will save me some $$$.

Still no true black. I’m holding out on my next MacBook until they release a true black body.
You could send your new Air M2 to blaken.com and ask them to make it true black. They use something called DLC = diamond-like carbon. It's a multiple-patented hi-tech procedure which takes more than 16 days to reach a stage where they meet their stringent demands for toughness and finish.
