Welp, was going to go for the 14" mbp but the midnight mba might have stolen that spot and it will save me some $$$.
Depending on configuration, not saving that much. My exact config is only $200 diff. Was hoping to sell my 14” but not at that margin.

Lovely machine, but in Sweden the pricing is strange. If you want your Air with 16 Gb ram and 512 Gb SSD, it’s only 3000kr ($300 equivalent) difference up to the 14” base Pro that comes with 16/512, plus all the other goodies.

I really love my M1 Air for work and my own 14” base Pro, but much of the value proposition with the Air lays in the price difference toward the Pro. With the M1 Air it was substantial, with this pricing, not so much. It’ll still be a major hit, that’s given! 😊

Damn, another product with a notch and a huge bezel under the screen - move the screen down and drop the notch. The pricing is even crazier - $1199 for 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD, $1499 for 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD. Hello, Apple, it is 2022!
Have you heard of ”flexgate”? This is problem when there is not enough room for the cables that connect the display to the circuits board and the backlights partially fail. You have to build enough room into the bottom of the display to prevent this problem. that is probably a reason that recent MBP and now the MBA have that extra space below the screen.

DO people think midnight will be a fingerprint magnet? Its so attractive! and different!
You might try going to an Apple store and looking at the demo iPhones in Midnight to get a feel for what they might look like after some handling.

This. I was surprised how expensive it can get. I was actually considering returning my 16“ M1 Pro for this, lol. Maybe at half the price.

one of the main reasons the air was popular was the price of $999. This increase is hard to swallow
The 2018 Air was $1199, with the old 2015 Air sticking around at that $999 price for the next 9 months or so.
I expect something very similar to happen this time next year, the M1 MBA get discontinued and this one gets lowered down to take its place.

For video editing of 4K 10-bit footage in H264, do you guys think the MB Air M2 is enough? Or is it still a better idea to get the MB Pro with M1 Pro? I'm confused as to whether the M2 in the Air is actually more powerful than the M1 Pro or not...
For short clips you should be ok. If you're going to be editing all the time I'd go with a MBP as we don't know how the M2 throttles with no fan. The prior M1 MBA would throttle 20% with prolonged video editing.

Can't believe they're keeping the weird 13 Macbook "Pro" model. If they'd made the Air more akin to the iMac (pastel colors, white bezels, "consumer" looking), it would make sense to have a fake Pro-level model for people who want the look but don't want to spend the money.

This is tough. I have a 16-in MBP that I was going to replace this year, and I love the 16-in screen. Don't know how much I'd like downsizing to a 13-in screen, BUT also don't know if I can justify an extra $1000+ for a bigger screen. Maybe I'll get a new MBA and see how I like it for a couple weeks. Hmmmm. Too bad they just don't have an Air with a bigger screen.

Next week we'll start to hear rumours about the next generation MacBook Air with smaller bezels and M3 (possibly M3 Max) processor and 17" screen. And that's exactly what I'll be waiting for.

Cannot wait to get my hands on 17" Air in beautiful forest green colour. Meanwhile I'll keep using my Air M1 in stunning Space Grey.
You literally just described the MB Pro, minus the green color.

No one else was asking for a fan in the Air. Sorry.
I don't know about anyone else, but I sure need one. I traded in my M1 MBA (16G, 1tb SSD) because of thermal throttling. Well, that and the screen was a bit unimpressive. No need to say sorry, it just rules one out for me.
You’d need to go with the MB Pro 13” to get M2 with a fan.
I didn't get to watch the presentation, there's a new MBP 13" with M2? Anyway, if I got a laptop it would probably be the 14" M1 Pro, and even had one on order for awhile, but there's really nothing that's a good fit for what I need. I'll stick with my Studio Max and a Windows laptop instead.

If I'm wishing, a new midnight M2 MBA (32G RAM, 1TB SSD) with a fan might have had a chance at my money. :) I really do like that color, but it's got to be useful!
