For video editing of 4K 10-bit footage in H264, do you guys think the MB Air M2 is enough? Or is it still a better idea to get the MB Pro with M1 Pro? I'm confused as to whether the M2 in the Air is actually more powerful than the M1 Pro or not...
From what I've seen even the regular M1 would be fine for periodic 4K video editing. You might want to splurge if you are editing video all day every day though. Go watch YouTube reviews on picking MacBooks.

The new MBA is going to be wildly popular and will likely set sales records for the company. This is the laptop for *most* people.

Ironically, it will also feature faster single core performance than my much more expensive M1 Max Macbook Pro.
In my opinion, this also sets up Apple to release a 3 nanometer MBP chip under the "M2 Pro" and "M2 Max" branding next year.

They added a notch on the top of the screen, MagSafe and Hellloo new MacBook Air and NEWW HIGHER PRICE. Specs are basically the same. No reason to switch for anybody who has current MBAir version.

You should price it out, it is very expensive

Keeping the M1 model around for the same price is needlessly complicated IMO. Very few people will need the M2 model enough to justify the extra cost, so for most people, it’s a $200 luxury bump.

ProMotion would make it worth it, but that’s not even on the new M2 MacBook Pro.
M1 became *more* expensive in the Netherlands. 8/7/256GB starts at €1219. You can get them in online stores starting at €949 and Apple's own price was previously €1099. The model I have went from €1499 I paid to €1649. That is…a surprising development. On the plus side, since the M2/8/256 starts at €1519 (!!!) and with the 1TB storage I need it would be €1979 (still with 8GB RAM!), and I didn't get my purdy colours, I am completely not tempted. If the M2 was €1499 and blue (or orange) (or mint green) I'd probably try to find a reason why I must have it… :)

Finally... MagSafe returns to the Air! My wife gets an upgrade from her 2015 Air to my 2017 Air and I can order one of these as my first AS Mac!

P1 for me was an M2 Mac Mini to replace my 2018 Core i7 Mini, but hey... I'd say it's pretty clear that an M2 Mac Mini is now inevitable and won't require an event to release now that the M2 has been announced.

Like that midnight color, and the only thing that I dont like more than abnormally big looking notch is its pricing.
Getting one with 16/512GB combo just makes 14" Pro seem like much better option.
And its pity that they didnt lower then previous generation, M1 Air's price or discontinue it altogether, I would certainly get one on sale when M2 Air's will hit the shelves.

I think I might be a little disappointed with the new Air:

- imperceptibly larger screen size yet we have a notch
- still only one external display
- quite a lot more expensive (particularly here in the UK)
- still 8GB/256GB base in 2022
- loss of wedge shape means (I think) it will not feel much smaller/lighter overall

I of course like the 18% faster CPU / 35% faster GPU, 1080p webcam, new speakers and brighter screen, but they are having to do a lot of heavy lifting to justify the price hike.

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice machine, but it's not enough to tempt me to upgrade from a maxed out M1 Air.

I wondered if it was just me and was missing something, but it seems not!

The base model for my wife, fair enough, that's as-expected, but I fancied a smaller laptop to replace my 16" MBP and it gets very expensive very quickly!

M1 MBA is €675 (special offer) here in Switzerland. The M2 is going to be a hard sell.

Damn, another product with a notch and a huge bezel under the screen - move the screen down and drop the notch. The pricing is even crazier - $1199 for 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD, $1499 for 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD. Hello, Apple, it is 2022!
If they made it smaller then the battery would be smaller and then either we’d be bitching about poor battery life, thicker shell, and missing top row of the keyboard… compromises exist for good reasons
