Apple Announces Release of Safari 5 with Extensions - But Where Is It?

If you go to Apple's website on the safari page, there seems to be a NEW sticker on the top left corner of the page that i didn't see there a few days ago. They must be working on Switching over to Safari 5 as we speak!

lol my macbook is already getting Snappier just knowing that it's about to get updated to Safari 5 hehe

Safari 4 is stored in http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Safari4/, which returns Forbidden. If you change it to Safari5, you also get Forbidden. If you pick a random directory name, you get a 404. The Safari5 directory exists!

i would say not new, because if you read the text, it reads like safari 4 was just announced, just apple not updating the website

Finally, extensions! I'm so excited to see this. I do hope that those extensions make it possible to add some interface tweaks and other nice features I'm craving for so long, like a blacklist for the popup blocker. This should also be interesting for existing plugins to run natively in Safari.

Hopefully Safari 5 will have a content blocking API like Firefox, wich an ad blocking extension can take advantage of.

Not that easy. Apple uses hashes and other numbers in the URL that are virtually unguessable. It would take too long to brute force them, too.

Pretty sure the file could be on Apple's servers already... someone type random numbers into the Safari 4 download link and see if you can get Safari 5's link.
