The only thing that's stopping me from switching to this from Firefox is Firefox has more advanced gestures (3.1 beta), such as three fingers down for bottom of page, which I use TONS.

Anyone know of a way to have this?

I'm a big fan of the "clear recent searches" in the search drop-down box in Safari 3. That's now gone in Safari 4. Sometimes I don't want my wife to see what I was searching for, if you know what I mean.;)
By which you mean, a gift for her ... right?

Fixes Artifacting Issues

With there were a number of complaints regarding artifacting in Safari 3 (following Leopard 10.5.4 I believe?). I can't speak for everyone, but Safari 4 seems to have fixed this, for now at least...

Yeah it seems backwards to me. The tab color scheme is reversed from what it should be at least according to OS/X color coordination.

It worked before (I guess) because tabs were on the bottom of the bookmark bar and much smaller. One tends to glance at a page from tab to bottom and the title bar is sort of what defines whether a window is on top or not. IN Safari 4 you see light grey at the top which indicates a background window in OS/X. On top of it the grey around the selected tab and the grey around the tool and bookmark bars aren't the same color which is off-putting. One would think these things should be the same color because they are part of the same page the way they have it designed now. And to make it worse the shade of grey around the bookmark and tool bars is the same shade of grey as the de-selected tabs which doesn't make sense.

I understand what you mean, but for some reason, this does feel natural to me. I was always bugged a little by Safari 3, that the deselected tabs were darker. I like the new style.

I admit I'm having slight trouble with selecting tabs due to it also being the drag point for the window. I also admit the little 'x' to close the tab is SO Windows. I think it makes more sense to have the close tab at the right (like safari 3 - though I realise it is because the title is left-justified there), and the drag point on the left. Actually, maybe not. After all the drag point for a window is on the right, and the close is on the left.

Oh I don't know.

Did you try it using a server in a different city? Many times, you'll get faster speed that way.

Excuse me? Did you not understand what I said? That's the best the local ISP has to offer. It wouldn't get any better if the server was on the other side of the street.
And Safari clogging up teh tubes by pre-fetching all kinds of stuff is a sub-optimal idea that might work in bigger cities with faster connections than this one, but not here.

No, I mean run the Speedtest again, this time selecting a different city's server on the map. You might get higher numbers, even though you're using the same ISP. Try it.

I really like Safari 4.
But I have a problem. I set up 12 pages for my topsite and pinned them all. However, soon after most of the pages had disappeared, and now theres only 7 on my topsite :/ anyone know a fix for this?

can someone check if resting Safari take your 'Top Sites' away

because for me it does

i guess its not put in as bookmarks or history

So.. is it snappier?

I bet people are still trying to get used to it before they will notice if it's snappier or not.

WAIT. I just noticed something relating to that. In Safari 3 I would have to wait about 10-20 seconds for it to be responsive right after it opens. Now it is responsive right when I open it.

Anybody know how to get the tabs and blue loading bar back to normal on Windows Vista?
Go back to Safari 3.

I'm about to blow a gasket!
It lost it's Mac look, well at least on Windows it did.
Now it looks kinda like a mix of Opera and FireFox.
And in my opinion the history looks more like grid view than cover flow.

That's not history. History is cover flow. You're thinking of Top Sites.

If you let Safari manage your Top Sites, resetting Safari will clear them, and surfing will cause them to change. If you want the same sites in your Top Sites, regardless of resets or surfing, you can manually add sites, using the method in this link:

sorry to add to this, but i've NEVER used that feature lol...

If you type in a URL and start heading through a new website that you don't have bookmarked or don't know if you're gonna wanna EVER bookmark and then after entering or submitting forms and make a mistake and wanna go back....

SNAPBACK IS INVALUABLE in that situation, back to the beginning.

You must not get around much and stay within your own bookmarked sites, LOL.

It's also quite invaluable for sites you DO have bookmarked since its a generic go back to the website's home page button.

It's basically a HOME PAGE for ANY website you go to often.

I can't believe no one used this feature! WOW!

I'm seriously going to consider NOT using Safari 4.0 now that its gone even with all the other things I like. :(

PS: I'm also having trouble on youtube with it copying or opening the WRONG links in a new window, but I won't complain about that since its a beta, but it appears to be a serious bug that could be incredibly annoying if it happens often. I kept clicking on a video link and Safari 4.0 just kept loading the same page over and over. Now THATS a very bad bug in my opinion.

Well, you're right! I ran the speed test again, and suddenly I'm getting quadruple the speed my ISP is even capable of providing!

Read it again, and do try to understand: 1 meg down and a quarter meg up is the top package my ISP even offers!
