Anybody know how to get the tabs and blue loading bar back to normal on Windows Vista?
Try editing com.apple.safari.optionyouwanttochange.

My first reaction to Safari 4: WHOA. Now this is cool. Plus, it really is Nitro-charged. My favorite JS-heavy sites absolutely fly on this browser.

Two thumbs up. Haven't found any serious (or even minor) bugs yet.

Could you point us to a javascript heavy site?

EDIT: I forgot to reply to iParis

I'm quite liking this new version so far.

I don't like having the tabs in the title bar though, as they are very difficult to read due to Vista's translucent title bars (Firefox wins there).

The top sites feature is really very pretty (one to Safari).

I can't see any options to add adblock features though (one to Firefox).

I also like the feature in Firefox where you can right-click on the Back button to go directly to a page you've recently visited (without using the History feature). Safari doesn't allow this. (One to Firefox).

Although so far it doesn't look like it beats Firefox (for me anyway), it's a good effort.

How do you get Safari to play that intro again?

It's just a URL... something like Apple.com/safari/welcome

I'm really liking the new suggestions in the google bar and the address bar:

Websites still load extremely slow, and the java sites giving me issues...still give me issues. (im on 312k line)

Top list, or whatever, has crashed Safari 4 times.
Also, the list seems random, in that it deletes, and changes the position of the sites I put in there...buggy, this is not a feature. (Ive submitted a report.)

So, from what I have experienced, its pretty much what it claims to be...beta.
Interesting for sure, but not stable on my g4 powerbook 667 mhz with slow internet connection. :D

Peace

still doesnt allow BB&T users to login to online banking using Safari and i do not like how when pages are loading the blue progress par doesnt go across the url section letting you know the page is loading.

Finally!

Well this is my first post on Mac Rumors, long time reader, first time poster. I have a whole different reason for liking Safari 4.0. I am currently enrolled in a MBA program that requires us to work through the schools portal called ANGEL. They recommended that we all use PCs for the program. They also recommended that we download Firefox to better interface with their many web-based applications. Well, not being one to be told what to do I have made it through the first term with my new MBP 2.53 and while Firefox did allow me to connect it was less than optimal. Safari 3.0 was a none starter, every screen once signed on continuously blinked and would not load the pages properly.

SAFARI 4.0 has fixed all of these issues. I am sure that some programming guy (or gal) could tell me about all the new beeps and squeaks in 4.0 that enabled this but the bottom line is that it works. More importantly I can now use all of my multi-touch functionality that I could not use with Firefox 3.0.

Oh yeah, and it looks cool too!

If a site doesn't allow you to login, contact the owners - they are probably blocking all but a few browsers.

As for the progress bar - see here http://pastie.textmate.org/398861 (probably posted already in several places in this thread ... too long to read though)

the BB&T problem is apples problem as its been there for months now, and Apple knows about it.(its even on their site they know the problem is there)

anyone notice how the little blue progress bar that came in the URL area when web pages were loading is now gone? That sucks :(

what package do I edit to change to get the progress bar back by the way?

Support forum and "on their site" are two completely different things. And it's probably not Apple's fault. Safari 4 is good (if not the best) at sticking to web standards.

That's already been discussed quite a bit in this thread. Look at the post before this one to see how to restore it.

I agree, they're absolutely terrible.

You're also forced into having a "bookmark it" button since Apple has now made it part of the address bar. I always previously removed the bookmark button. And the stop/refresh button has completely disappeared.

Refresh button is on the right of the address bar (immediately following the RSS button)
