Not for me, it doesn't.

Webkit nightlies had been passing ACID3 on Intel Macs and failing on PPC Macs for a while - I dunno why it makes a difference, but I suspect this is also the case in Safari 4. (The animation is also not smooth.)

passed for me...

Gmail Fix

For some reason Gmail keeps hanging. Apparently they are having troubles, but it loads fine for me in Firefox. Anyone else having this problem? It just shows a blank page.

I was having this problem too, and it was unrelated to the outages. My fix is to enter Gmail via https://mail.google.com instead of http://mail.google.com. It seems that there is a redirect that isn't working in Safari, so you have to go there manually. Since I go to Gmail from the button bar, it's easy to make a button that connects to URL "https://mail.google.com/mail/#inbox" and then we're in. I then disabled Offline in the Labs icon (the little green beaker symbol) so that it wouldn't look like Offline was failing, but instead would look just the way it had before Offline was released.

What I don't seem to be able to fix is Gmail Offline. For that I still have to use Firefox.

I now notice that once Offline is disabled both in the Settings link and in the "Beaker" link, the redirect seems to work fine. So I think that it was a Google Gears issue. Still, I had to get in to turn it off, which required manually using the secured https URL. Anyway works for me. Good luck.

Ok, I was using Safari 3 and a long time ago, I did a google search in which I found that if I entered a simple command line, it would clear my history every time I closed out Safari.

Now, I just downloaded Safari 4 and the command line I entered a long time ago still remains and is doing its job (clearing the history as soon as I exit Safari), but I want to remove the command line so it remembers my history (for the purposes of Top Sites).

For the life of me, I can't find what the command line I entered was and where I placed it so I can remove it.

Please, any of you programmers or expert google searchers know how to assist?

Thanks
I don't know if this will work, but here is something I found:
How to clear Safari history automatically
By default Safari stores visited sites list that lets you easily return to webpages by choosing them from the History menu.
To clear Safari history automatically:
• Select Edit, then Preferences.
• Select General.
• From Remove history items drop-down menu select how often you want Safari to clear the history list.
• Click 'OK'

Edit:
Nevermind, I don't think that will work.
Does anyone know how to fix my problem yet?

no, not what i was looking for. i actually entered a command line.....i think through the library>safari....or some place like that.

basically, i need to know what command i entered, find it, then delete it.

I don't understand you people. There's nothing to back up your claim and you have no cognitive reason for hating where tabs are. Is it really that big of a deal?

Geesh
I said it's my opinion - to which I'm entitled. If you don't like people giving their opinions sling your hook. Obviously "I don't like it" is not enough for you so how about this: I don't like the position because it's too near the menu bar, it's further from the centre of the screen where you'd naturally rest the cursor for clicking links, and there is also no visual break between the leftmost tab and the coloured buttons. Unless the reason for your attitude is that giving opinions (even, God forbid, first impressions) is now not allowed on this forum I suggest you change it, fanboy. "Geesh?" Are you 13 years old?

I found a way to toggle items 1-4 of your list using Safari menu.

Hope this helps.

My main concern was the fact that JavaScript is not allowed to open new windows anymore. Only new tabs. The site I work with as part of my job relies on opening new windows. So I started diggin' Safari internals and found those options. :D

Thank you for this, you're a life saver. Safari 4 for me is perfect to my liking :D

Ok two things... Can I get a refresh button? Is anyone else experiencing horribly slow downloads?

Otherwise, I like the look and feel of it.

I'm very impressed so far. The top sites feature is very cool, and I like the top tabs a lot more than I thought I would. Also - very, VERY "snappy." ;) But no, seriously, it's a very fast browser.

Is there any support yet from Inquisitor for Safari 4? I miss it already ..

Really? I used it on Safari 3, but I find the built-in functionality of Safari 4 just as good.

The Refresh button is in the URL bar. It's very fast for me, much faster than any other browser.

Fair enough. It's been speedy for me just not with downloads, and I guess I'm just used to Firefox's refresh button.

In the preferences you can tell Safari to open new windows with "Top Sites" which basically makes it your home page when you first open safari... Other than that I don't see any way to make the Top Sites page the default home page... I know some others were asking about that..

So far I love the browser, can't wait to see how it runs on 10.6 with a new nehalem mac pro :)

Windows versions sucks appropriately

I'm at work, so just tried it on XP and it's pretty slow on old hardware (worse than Firefox 3).

The gayest thing they seem to have done is stuck the tab bar into the Windows title bar:confused::confused::confused:

Not just hard to get at, it is almost impossible to see, especially if you don't have all the resource-hogging Windows's theme junk enabled.

Why even bother with a Windows version of Safari?

I will be trying it later on my Hackintosh and am sure will be more excited and less peeved.

Not quite: it doesn't provide search results. You still have to hit Return and look through the resulting Google page, whereas Inquisitor gives you a number of search results in addition to the search suggestions.

...and would it have hurt them to include a menu bar?

Pop-Up Blocker either all or nothing?

So there's still no way to add allowed sites? How can this feature still be overlooked?

Oh CRAP!

Didn't check if Safari 4 would overwrite 3...
Crap...it sure does...
I do not like using beta software...
Shame on Apple...
Uninstalling Safari 4 immediately...
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
