CONS:
Doesn't have a remember password manager that I am used to in FF, although in the long run that may be much safer to have

Safari saves passwords in the keychain, so you can access them with the Keychain Access application.

Like the improvements very much, but a colleague noted that Microsoft Hotmail doesn't seem to work in this version. The inbox opens, but it's impossible to open any e-mails. Weird

I have the same problem. I reported it to Apple via the report a bug feature. Please do the same!

I love Safari 4 except for three small (oh so small) things:

- Search shortcuts (see below)
- Ability to hit enter to follow a result when using Command-F (in FF, if I search the page for "Dog", and the first result it selected was a link, hitting enter would follow the link; Safari 3/4 just goes to the next result).
- Ability to restore crashed sessions (right now I can only restore sessions that have quit gracefully)

I'm sure those first two could be programmed in quite easily.

For those who don't know what search shortcuts are: in Firefox/Camino I can create a special "shortcut" bookmark that lets me type special shortcuts in the address bar. Examples would be typing "wiki Dog" to go straight to wikipedia page for dog, or "imdb Dark Knight" to go straight to the search results for Dark Knight on IMdb.

remove Recent Search?

Ok so i downloaded Safari 4. And so far i think it is fast and looks great. BUT, where can i clear my recent search? WITHOUT deleting my history.

For example i don't mind seeing what my history is... BUT i don't like to type "m" on the top right hand and i get "recent searched-marry, marijuana, monitor, etc.."

I don't mind giving me suggestions, BUT i don't like for it to show me my recent search. The ONLY way i have been able to do it is to clear my history, which i don't want to do. It's like everything i search is not being displaced on recent search.

Anyone know how to remove this? If the past safari's or in mozilla, you can in the preferences uncheck that thing that says, remember searched items or pre fill recent searched.. something like that.

Can anyone answer that?

When making a post with attachments in the forums, the attachments window used to pop up and be perfectly sized ...

With the beta, it pops up as a new tab ... anyone know how to fix this?

I'm at work, so just tried it on XP and it's pretty slow on old hardware (worse than Firefox 3).

The gayest thing they seem to have done is stuck the tab bar into the Windows title bar:confused::confused::confused:

Not just hard to get at, it is almost impossible to see, especially if you don't have all the resource-hogging Windows's theme junk enabled.

Why even bother with a Windows version of Safari?

I will be trying it later on my Hackintosh and am sure will be more excited and less peeved.
I don't know what it looks like or how it performs on XP, but on Vista and 7, Safari 4 is quite acceptable, in terms of both appearance and performance.

estore the blue loading bar behind the URL - HOW TO
For those screaming to have this feature back...

DebugSafari4IncludeToolbarRedesign and DebugSafari4LoadProgressStyle

When both set to NO it restores the blue loading bar behind the URL. Also puts a page loading spinner in the tab itself, which looks odd with the new tabs.

Why am I not able to modify these settings? I have done this so many times in terminal to get the tabs in S3 style, and other tweaks. Restarted Safari. But the tab bar stays put. I have both webkit also, and I have restarted many time both without any avail. I have some plugins like SafariStand, iPassword, etc. Could that be problem?

I installed it and received an error trying to launch it. Not only that, it knocked my Time Capsule offline. Had to reboot that too. Dumped it.

well its growing on me. tab bar on top is not such a big deal anymore. and the loading bar has stopped bothering me (still would want it back, and no terminal hack).

the biggest thing i am missing out on is inquisitor. I hope they update it ASAP!

In the preferences you can tell Safari to open new windows with "Top Sites" which basically makes it your home page when you first open safari... Other than that I don't see any way to make the Top Sites page the default home page... I know some others were asking about that..
I don't have a top sites bookmark
That's because "Top Sites" isn't a web page. It's a view option.

I'm frustrated because I want to use Safari, but it is missing a few particular features that I can't live without. Firefox 3.2b has them; i am thinking, in particular:

greater multi-touch support (three finger swipe up or down to go to top or bottom of page, respectively).

when i close the browser, or quit, i like it when the previously opened tabs reappear in the new window. great for unexpected quits, restarts due to software updates, et cetera.

links will ALWAYS open in a new tab, never a new window. i know, it's possible by holding the command key, but i prefer not.

more to come, these are just my first thoughts. or hopefully someone can prove me wrong and say safari 4 IS capable of these.

It is definitely speedy, and it looks nice, but I may stick with Chrome. And I can't access the 'Top Sites' feature at all. No bookmark, no menus, and topsites:// doesn't open it.
