I'm loving it so far, I love that I don't have to go into the file list to open a new tab.
You do know that almost every single browser in existence has supported Ctrl/Cmd+T to create a new tab, right? This is not anything new, certainly not to Safari.

So far Safari 4 Beta is amazing.
Works great on my poor old iMac G4 / 1.25GB RAM
Very impressed. Will be installing this browser on a Windows box next - to play with.

MULTI CLUTCH for anyone that wants more multi-touch support in safari. I do three finger swipe up to open a new tab, three down to close tab. and globally open pinching opens dashboard, close pinching to quit program.

google it!

I'm really loving Safari 4, I switched from Firefox 3 to Safari 4 earlier today. :)

I'm frustrated because I want to use Safari, but it is missing a few particular features that I can't live without. Firefox 3.2b has them; i am thinking, in particular:

greater multi-touch support (three finger swipe up or down to go to top or bottom of page, respectively).

when i close the browser, or quit, i like it when the previously opened tabs reappear in the new window. great for unexpected quits, restarts due to software updates, et cetera.

links will ALWAYS open in a new tab, never a new window. i know, it's possible by holding the command key, but i prefer not.

more to come, these are just my first thoughts. or hopefully someone can prove me wrong and say safari 4 IS capable of these.
This is a beta, it will have bugs. Things will be fixed, added, and changed.

The only problem I have had with Safari 4, is in hotmail, it shows the little hand to click on and open a message, but when you click on it, Safari 4, will not open the message.

Type this in Terminal:
Code:
defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true
I just tested it, it works. Could cause some errors when a popup appears that forces the site to a size. Your whole browser will resize with it. Luckily, it's rare.

Overall, I hate it. I hate the tabs on the top (didn't find it good on Chrome either). I won't use the top sites feature, but the button takes away space. I loved the address bar with the blue progress background. Now it just has an indicator like Firefox (wow). I can't hide the bookmark button, because it is now merged. And what the hell do I need Cover Flow for? Most useless feature for me. And you can't even hide or disable the Cover Flow feature, so the big black bar on the top will stay there and takes away space (and looks very ugly).

Okay, speed is nice compared to the dev preview, but I'm used to my browser now for quite some time. Making such big changes on the interface ist just really stupid.

Now, this wouldn't be a problem if Apple would have added an option to disable them. Now you'll be forced to use a Chrome/Firefox lookalike. I'm really disappointed. For now, I'll stick with the dev preview.

Also notices they updated the User Agent to support Mobile Safari 2.2.1 and IE 8 Beta

Very noice. I'm still debating which I like better.

Where do you find these settings? If I could kill the add bookmarks button being part of the address bar, it's pay dirt!

On Mac in Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4TabBarIsOnTop false

And it will look like Safari 3 again. :)

I think the writing is on the wall with safari 4 that Apple will be coming out with a touch-screen mac.
With cover flow now on Safari and the Top Site Tab with the multiple window browser it seems to position itself for a touch-book mac.
Just take the iphone and stretch it out to a 13" screen add a detachable keyboard that can be used either as a laptop form function or remove it and use it as a tablet style notebook.

Well I've been using Safari 4 for the better part of 4 hours.
Overall I'm happy.
The tabs on top took some getting used to. And I still don't think they're very attractive. But they save me space, and that I like.
Using them is nice, and it feels good.
Speed wise, I can definitely notice a subtle difference.
"Snappy" has been used a lot, and that pretty much defines it.
Top Sites is nice, but not something I think I'll use all of the time (though I did find myself using it when I opened a new tab, even though I have the site I wish to go to in my bookmark bar).
Coverflow seems to be everywhere these days, and I don't mind it.
It actually helped when looking for a specific page from a site that I'd been to a number of pages on.
Again, overall, I'm happy with it, and can't wait to see how it develops.

I am so happy with this update. I would now have to call Safari "the fastest browser in the world" for real this time. It also has more features than any other browser I know of.

All I know is I wont be using Firefox for quite a while until this get something as good as Safari, which is highly unlikely at least for a while.

It is definitely speedy, and it looks nice, but I may stick with Chrome. And I can't access the 'Top Sites' feature at all. No bookmark, no menus, and topsites:// doesn't open it.

Top sites is available from your bookmark bar. Top left of the screen, under the left/right arrow buttons, there are two buttons. The first looks like a book - that's the bookmarks button. The second looks like a grid (4x3) of black boxes. That's the Top Sites button.

Unhide the bookmark bar if you have it hidden (see View menu).

Awesome sauce. I gotta ask again, how does one find these features? I presume there is a config file or something somwhere.

Anyone know how to change the zoom speed of the pinch feature using the trackpad? I think that's my last gripe.

Try these commands in Terminal to get back whatever Safari 3 features you'd rather have!

0 = Turn it Off
1 = Turn it On

Get the old toolbar back (Separate Add Bookmarks icon, etc.)
Code:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4IncludeToolbarRedesign 0/1

CoverFlow View On/Off
Code:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4IncludeFlowViewInBookmarksView 0/1

New URL Completion Menu On/Off
Code:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4IncludeFancyURLCompletionList 0/1

Google Suggest On/Off
Code:
 defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4IncludeGoogleSuggest 0/1

:)

I really wish Safari's password/username auto fill feature was more like Firefox's requiring a master password to autofill stuff. This is a main reason I tend to use FF.

Yeah, having trouble with that too. Even if I'm really really careful, the zoom will go too far. 8/
