when you click the "…" tab it shows all the tabs you have open and then the tabs which are not in the toolbar are in the greyed out section.

so thats pretty much the only way to access the "undisplayed (on tabbar)" tabs?

Yeah pretty much. I wish Apple would have created something nicer so Safari could be more useful when there are more tabs open.

I like OmniWeb's slider on the left, for instance. And there are loads of plugins for Firefox.

anyone use times reader?

Does anyone using safari 4, also use the new york times, reader application?

I was using the application just fine, but now after upgrading to safari 4, the times reader will no longer launch at all. Just tries to and then crash without even launching.

I use Firefox pretty much exclusively but have Safari as a backup. After crunching through all these threads I think I'm going to take the plunge and see how S4 runs. I'm hoping that the problem with Mail doesn't affect me as I'm using Thunderbird. Fingers crossed. I don't have any plugins for Safari so again hoping no problems there. I do have growl mail notification so have to see bout that. Arrrrrrrgh, betas! What am I about to mess up???? Cheers

Well, made the jump. I'm on S4 now and all seems ok. No problems with Gmail or Hotmail. Haven't gotten an inbound email to Thunderbird to check to see if Growl has been affected. Well just sent an email to me and Growl works. Gee this might not be so bad. Getting used to the tabs on top. I agree with others that it would be nice if the color of the tab in use was a bit more pronounced. I too miss the blue progress bar....pretty minor I know. I can't say that I know all the ins & outs and tricks of Safari but I can say this....it does seem fast. The "Top Sites" is interesting. Everything seems to work so can't complain. Looking forward to the next version. Cheers

Really liking Safari 4 so far, I've decided to switch from Firefox on my MacBook.

There's a couple of things now (I've fixed the rest with addons and preferences) that I'm wondering about:

Keywords for bookmarks - I would like to write "hello" in the address bar and press enter and it would open whatever url in my bookmarks that has that specific keyword, or shortcut is maybe the right word.

Also is it possible to get a a FF3 type adress field, with search functionality? When I now typ in "rumors" it shows nothing. FF3 would show macrumors.com as the first hit.

I'm liking it(just installed it tonight)...not sure how I feel about the tabs being moved up and the refresh being moved into the URL bar...wasn't a huge fan of that on the iPhone, but I'm used to it now.

anyone know when safari 4 will be out of beta with all the kinks worked out? Or anyone have an educated guess? I like safari 4 (except a few minor things), but a couple larger things (unable to access mail) are bothersome.

I think I discovered something new. Not sure though. If it is not a new feature, then forgive me. But, I don't think i saw this in Safari 3.x.

If you have more than 12 tabs, a new button will appear (next to the "plus tab" button) that will allow to see all the extra tabs.

Here's what it looks like:

It's located on the top right of the window.
:(

Safari looks SO much better in OSX

Any notice if the new Safari beta sucks 100% of processor power...?

Not even 10%. I managed to get it to spike at around 70% by doing "Open in Tabs" on a folder with about 30 sites dedicated to high-end photography, so they'd be graphic intensive. That spike lasted about 2 seconds, then it dropped back to around 7%.

Well, safari 1.0 took six months, and 3.0 four, so maybe this summer? But Apple will almost surely release beta updates until then.
