Wow.!!!

51 pages of discussion for just the release of Safari 4 BETA... It is not even the final version yet...

I wonder what will happen when the final version of Safari 4 is released...:rolleyes:
The final release should be very similar to this beta, barring a few minor changes here and there.

Not true. For many years, Office for Mac was considered better than its Windows counterpart.
Considered better by who? I used Office 97 and found it better than Office 98. I used Office 2000 and found it on par with Office 2001.

Overall, Microsoft makes very decent software for the Mac. Office 2008 isn't perfect, but it's also just as capable as Office 2007 is for the average end-user who doesn't need the advanced features.

This is G8!

Had downloaded with no problems and tried it out.
It's pretty damn faster and I like the style and UI but, opening hotmail was ok on the login and when you click on the message, it would not open and from then on it just freeze!
Firefox 3.1b2 beta has the same problems with Hotmail!
Had anyone noticed that?
Huh what the heck!

Hotmail in Safari 3 & Firefox 3.06 worked fine! :)

Well, how would know that you are not running the Windows version. Your sig doesn't show what kind of computer you are using and you didn't mention it either. I've tried the Windows version and it crashed more than once. I have it installed on my Macbook Air and iMac using Leopard and I have no issues whatsoever. Should we expect it to work well on both platforms? Perhaps, but remember the Macintosh is an Apple product and anything Apple makes is likely to be better on the Mac.
Microsoft does the same thing, anything they make for Mac sucks compared to the Windows version.

My public profile says my computer, if you really needed to know :p

I've done my first restart since installing it, and it does seem a bit faster now.

I enjoy the speed of the browser but am having some annoying problems or thoughts

1) I can't stand how high the tabs have gone. Put them lower where they belong, imo
2) I keep having Safari minimized when I am just trying to press a tab. I will press and press and it will just automatically minimize
3) At times, I can't even access the tab. I press and press it and nothing.

Glad you realize it's just your opinion. Not saying it's right or wrong either way, but it's no more than a preference, and they certainly don't fit in lower, as has been pointed out (from a logical perspective, that is, not necessarily aesthetic).

Umm, if you double-click the title bar of any window, it will minimize. That's normal behavior. Try just clicking once.

Make sure you're not moving the mouse around. That is one quirk about the position they'll have to sort out, but if you click and drag, the window will move. Make sure it's just a quick click, and that you're not pressing the mouse button down and holding it (I've seen so many people do that as if clicking for a longer period of time will make the computer work better than if they click quickly).

Another problem I noticed, is now you need to click on the message area, each time you want to have a conversation is MSN messenger. Even if you do not click out of the window.

Hi guys,

Is there currently any known way of restoring the blue loading strip in the address bar on Vista, I know its easy with OS X, but I'm a little stumped.
I've read that there is a Preferences.plist file on Vista, but I've looked in every conceivable location and beyond and not found it.

If not I guess I'll have to wait until the next Safari 4 update.

Cheers

Well, I'm glad for you that you are getting a slightly better experience after a restart. Your public profile isn't something people check daily before quoting or replying to messages you post. Your signature is suppose to give a brief description of what computer you are using or at least what your M.O is.

I was not out of line by questioning if you were running the Windows version since you have vague info in your sig. Cheers.

Yeah I understand that, I can't put my machine in my sig, I'm nearing the 300 character limit sadly, and I'd rather promote my music than my metal slab of computer. :p

Sorry for the snapping, it was getting rather late, and the constant newbie rehashes of the same issues/discussions was getting to me, so I apologise for that. Safari is now hogging alot of RAM (3 tabs open), but it's very smooth for now.

Does this version have the "REOPEN LAST CLOSE TAB" option? Just like Firefox?

*please say yes*

Glad you realize it's just your opinion.

Glad to see you realized my opinion was my opinion.

No, it doesn't minimize which is my point. I am using it right now and it took my about 5 clicks to minimize and about 10 minutes ago it wasn't even responding to clicks the other time (or just ONE click). Early this morning I came here and it worked fine which seems about right. Some times it works, other times it doesn't.

That's fine. It's a beta, I get that. I am just telling people the problems I am having with it.

Not quite, It has:

- Reopen last closed window
- Reopen all windows from last session.
That's pretty pathetic to be honest.

They add all these new features, yet forget one of the most simple and effective feature?

It's VERY annoying when you accidently close an open tab - But with a quick shortcut you should be able to re-open it! Just like in Firefox.

I really hope they add this feature in the final version, as well as a better pop-up blocker. Until then, I'll stick to Firefox.

yeah that's one of the things I missed the most when i switched to Safari after getting my MacBook. However, i discovered Glims, a very light and fun addition to Safari, that among other cool things, it had the Undo Close tab feature.
but as of right now, Glims isn't working in Safari 4... so we'll see. And i agree, having an Undo Close feature part of the browser itself would be a great feature to bring to Safari 4.

Just installed it on Tiger and the top sites feature and cover flow do not work because my graphics card doesn't support quartz extreme. But the cover flow works for iTunes?

I really dont notice a difference between safari 4 and shiretoko other than DeviantArt only works on safari. The addons far outweigh any benefit safari may have, imo. I cant live without addons after getting used to firefox.

Office 2004 for Mac was considered better than Office 2003 for PC.

I'm giving it a shot but so far I don't like it. I want to change the "speed dial" like links on the top pages system but it won't let me since it makes it up as i go. I'm using Opera to post this as it is my primary browser. I like how Opera saves back traking info on all tabs so if i reopen one i can go back to the previous page or further if I want but safari only lets me reopen the last page... If Opera had multi-touch support I wouldn't even try this new safari.
