photoshopped.
Why exactly should I "not get upset" when it self-enforces its rules I don't like?
Why should I be happy if software does something I don't like?
I was looking forward to writing apps for my iPhone. And now it turns out that after waiting for nearly a year for the iPhone and half a year for the SDK, I _still_ cannot use it.
If you don't understand why that would upset me, I suggest you don't understand how Mac fans work.
OF COURSE I am upset that there is a feature of the iPhone that I cannot use.
There would be no "non-compliant" apps in the wild if Apple simply sold me a key now. And I somehow doubt that there will be fewer "non-compliant" apps around just because keys are sold to Americans first while Europeans have to wait another few months.
And if I told you that I would give you a free piece of software that washes your car and you find out that it comes with a "car emulator" that it washes while washing your real car would cost 99 dollars a year, you would certainly not claim that what I gave you was "free car-washing software".
And if you really wanted the software to wash your car (in fact, you have bought the car because you liked that idea so much) and found out that OTHER people, not you, can make use of the 99 dollars a year service; don't tell me you wouldn't be upset.
Do you really think that a free SDK that targets an emulator is what people expected when they read "free iPhone SDK"?
I certainly didn't expect that after I read "free".
I don't mind Apple charging 99 dollars a year, but I am annoyed that they call it "free" and that they won't sell me the 99 dollars a year key I need to use the SDK in a meaningful way.
I already studied the documentation and experimented a bit. I have a Hello World program running and lots of time this weekend to learn more. (It's St. Patrick's Day Monday.) The only things I am missing is the iPhone (which will be released tomorrow and I pre-ordered one) and the functionality to install the software on the iPhone (which a "free SDK" should provide).
Most of my colleagues at work don't share my enthusiasm for the iPhone. They think like you do: who cares about waiting another few months? A free SDK that targets an emulator is cool enough. Who is interested in writing apps for their telephone?
Well, I am. And I am upset that it is AGAIN delayed.
First it takes a few months to get the iPhone to Europe and Britain, then another few months to get it to Ireland, and then, when the phone is here and the SDK available, I find out that it will be another few months until I can use the SDK with the iPhone.
And you wonder why that would upset me?
Gee...
Possibility... im leaning towards intel, myself.
could this be the event where they introduce the real updates to the macbook pros?
OS X 10.7 "Tabby"
I've just done a search on wiki, apple doesnt have a track record of introducing hardware in WWDCs.
So i dont think we will see any MB, MBP Re designs then..which means the next update will be in Macworld 09?
we got a quick one folks..... no **** its photoshopped, im sure we would hear about another golden gate bra.
you guys are worse than Lost viewers!![]()
Is anybody listening?
I was complaining about the fact that the SDK was announced as "free" even though it costs 99 dollars a year if you actually use it. (Running apps in an emulator is not "using an SDK".)
Plus the 99 dollar offer won't be available to me (in Ireland) for another few months.
I don't care about the 99 dollars, I am annoyed because the SDK is marketed as "free" (although it isn't) and because Apple tell me that I cannot buy the key for another few months. It's ANNOYING.
If Apple had said the SDK is available for 99 dollars a year PLUS gave me a way to give them that money, I'd be happy.
But instead Apple have chosen to claim that the SDK is free PLUS won't allow me to use it as of yet.
Again, using the SDK to run an app in an emulator is NOT what the SDK is for. It's like a shareware version of the SDK.
When Apple said "free SDK" I was expecting the software required to build and run programs ion my iPhone, NOT an emulator.
And when Apple said "99 dollars a year" I was expecting that I would at least be allowed to BUY it.
Hence I have no great expectations from WWDC.

Maybe Apple won't split into two this year or the next five years. But something like IBM has done (selling all pc-manufacturing business to Lenovo) isn't unthinkable. or splitting up and then selling parts of itself to another company.
Ever heard of the Mac Pro?
Oh, oh... they've built another Golden Gate Bridge!? Sweet!
Seriously though, lets not speculate on the two bridges all the way until June... the only thing I see here is that Apple has a good marketing department.
