The Simpsons references in this thread have been pure comedy gold!

I don't think we'll be seeing Steve for a while. Even if he is "better" he probably doesn't look so great, and with Apple image is pretty important. Maybe he will return to the company in July but it will probably be a long time before he does another keynote presentation.

Schiller is a douche

The fact of the matter is...this are all business executives (even Steve). These are not rock stars, gods, or anything other than a very rich human being.

Sure, Steve Jobs has been credited for some amazing products. However, it was not all him and it is time that people give credit where credit is due.

Jonny Ive probably has more to do with the design of these products than Steve does. I am sure he signs off on them but he doesn't design them. Phil Schiller is in charge of marketing. All those great ads you see on TV probably were approved by Schiller ultimately.

This is a big company with TONs of employees and every one of them brings something to the table.

One day Steve Jobs will not be the CEO anymore (and why should he?). He will retire just like everybody wants to do and begin that part of his life. During this last 12 years, I think the correct mind set and culture has been established at Apple to ensure success going forward.

Sure we will miss Steve Jobs but he is just guy.

hmm, why can't Tim Cook do it? Since he is already filling in for Steve, it would make more sense for Tim to give the keynote over Phil...
That actually makes no sense (sorry)… You don't replace Steve with one guy.

Cook is filling in for Steve as CEO in running the company. He's the money man and understands all of the financial part of it (which is typically his role anyway). Tim Cook probably is not as familiar with all of Snow Leopard's ins and outs and with Developers needs to try and jump in and do that too.

He understands $ and ¢. THAT'S his role.

Schiller, Steve feels, is the best one to do the keynote so I trust that decision. Schiller's done a number of them now and if SJ felt he wasn't doing a good enough job, we'd have seen somebody else by now.

  • I'm not really bothered. Steve delegated most of the presentation away anyway
  • Schiller's a little more awkward, Forstall is incredibly boring. It's hard to take over from SJ and they're trying
  • Product sales do not depend on Steve Jobs: They depend on the product. You only going to buy an iPhone if SJ presented it?
  • SJ isn't going to appear like a stage assistant at the end. That's way too much of an ego trip. I doubt he'd feel comfortable with it or that it sends the right message.
  • Schiller's appearance is fine. A little overweight perhaps, but certainly not obese or difficult to look at. He's a little overweight the same way your old dad is.

Jobbsy

I think the will make a video call using the new front facing camera and Steve will be at home using his 3.0 software! (Or something along those lines).

A

I'm still pulling for Ive. He's quiet and reserved, which is needed. Schiller is...I dunno...fruity. He almost reminds me of a religious televangelist. Just put him in a white suit behind a pulpit and there you go. :D

But whatever. ;)

Steve is actually known to be very hands-on, so the products and ultimately the success of Apple has been influenced by him. There are two types of CEOs: financial CEOs, who look after the company from a financial perspective or product CEOs, who are hands-on and see and comment on products throughout each stage of their development. Steve defines the role of a product CEO.

Naturally Apple 'supporters' are eager for him to return - the company's no-compromise strategy is a result of his influence when founding the company, and he's been responsible for a product strategy that returned Apple to health and made it one of the most profitable companies in the computer industry. And let's not forget that Apple only started to decline when Steve left. People now associate Apple's health with Steve.

Tim Cook probably is not as familiar with all of Snow Leopard's ins and outs and with Developers needs to try and jump in and do that too.

You're selling Cook short if you think he's just in charge of finances.

If you read Cook's executive bio at Apple.com, he's in charge of the entire Macintosh division (as part of his regular job). I'm sure he's well aware of Snow Leopard's features.

However, traditionally product demonstrations are made by marketing executives, not CEOs. Apple was an unusual case, as Jobs' preferred that role.

It's not a surprise that Apple's Sr. VP of Marketing is giving a software/product keynote.

So What?

I'm starting to lose interest on who leads whatever keynote, I just care about whats being presented. A little disappointed because it feels as if Snow Leopard is even farther from where I had hoped it would be released

If you are still running one of the great PPC Macs your opinion would be, "so what." System 10.5 is finally getting to be where it should have been by 10.5.1.

With a couple of years to just make 10.5 better & then call it 10.6, there should be no problems with this system as there has been in the past. But then, the shipment of 10.6 has not happened yet. Is that to make it better or why?

So you judge people on their appearance rather than their ability. So I guess your a super handsome guy with sh*t for brains.

Yes, I do judge people by their appearance. I suspect so does everyone else. Its basic animal behavior to judge based on appearance. If you want to debate this point we can, but my degree is in Biology and I can back this up if you like.

Did not say that I was better looking. Just because I pointed out the obvious, e.g. rolls of fat handing off his body, does not mean I can a run a four minute mile or am special in anyway.

All I ask for is someone with enough person respect and self dignity that that can stay within their respective BMI range, except in extreme situations when the amount of muscle contributes so much that the index is rendered useless.

It personally offends me to see someone like this. It speaks to what is wrong in America.

Ugh.

Phil freaking Schiller.

That's kinda mean. Could you do any better? Honestly trying to follow the footsteps of someone like Steve Jobs who has become RockStar status in the computing/multimedia world is very challenging to uphold. It's easy for any of Microsoft's execs to do keynotes behind Gates because Gates was always boring. Nobody looked forward to him stepping on the stage.

Schiller is the man. He's a nice guy to meet as well so I'm told.

And there is every possibility that Jobs will return. Even if he returned before WWDC, he still might want to let the keynote go to Phil. A keynote in front of thousands of people is an extremely stressful thing, even if you've been doing them as long as Steve has.

Jobs has always been a salesman though. Sure he did do some developing in the early days, but he had the charisma non other the others had.

Uh-huh? And you have proof of this fact? I supposed he just decided to take a six-month vacation then? Face facts, he's extremely sick or he'd be speaking at WWDC. He had pancreatic cancer before and he has it now.

Well, I have just about as much proof as you do saying he does. Oh and in July of last year he said it hadn't returned.

Have you actually followed this story at all? His weight loss is an issue and a medical one but it has nothing to do with caner. Besides, no one knew he had it the first time around and he didn't lose any weight then so I'd guess that a recurrence would also not cause weight loss.

Steves announcement of his 6 month leave of absence was in early January, so i personally wasn’t expecting to hear anything until early July?
