There are some ghoulish and nasty comments here...

Seriously, I lurk on this site to see if the latest OS update is ok etc and never post because I don't have time. But I've taken the time to log in and comment today because I'm repulsed by the ghoulish, "i have a friend who is a 'docter'" type speculation that Steve Jobs is near death etc on this thread. Anonymous posters trying to bignote themselves on a technology rumors site by predicting the death of someone who has probably achieved more in a few months of sick leave than you have in a lifetime? What kind of lives do people who spread these rumors lead? I think i can guess.

If you really believe Steve is terminally ill, show some respect instead of spreading rumors to impress people on a website forum. If you do have 'inside knowledge' take a good look at the people telling you this stuff and have a think about why they would tell you this kind of information. They're also trying to bignote themselves because they're losers as well. And mentioning Farrah Fawcett? Is this Entertainment Tonight? Just appalling. Especially how she says the media speculation has made it so much harder to go through what she's going through. Ask a real 'docter' about her type of cancer and what she's experiencing.

Clearly these people here spreading this 'information' have never watched a loved one die of cancer, or they're just heartless people. I watched my father-in-law die of pancreatic cancer – he would be around the same age as Steve if he was alive now. His was inoperable. No chance of a whipple procedure etc. for him. Twelve months of hell before death after diagnosis. If Steve is going through the same thing, may whatever god he prays to have mercy on him.

As for the people spreading this stuff. Take a good, long hard look at yourselves. Become a better person and earn some self-respect, because at the moment you look like self-loathing a**holes.

Ugh, really?

If not El Jobso, what about Jonathan Ive?

Hell, they should just let me do it... :D

I'm still pulling for Ive. He's quiet and reserved, which is needed. Schiller is...I dunno...fruity. He almost reminds me of a religious televangelist. Just put him in a white suit behind a pulpit and there you go. :D

But whatever. ;)

my vote is for Ives he has the charisma and it would make sense for the designer to present

+1 vote for Jony Ives. I just like the man and admire his talent. If he's a little reserved, fine ... work on it ... He'd be a great speaker, people like him ... and I can think of no one better to become CEO, really.

:apple:

That is a good point, there will be a lot of people ready for an upgrade/new contract. The new iPhone has to be out so they don't loose any customers.

Because of the mentality of some of these posts, I can imagine the following scenerio:

Someone's iPhone contract expires on July 1. Oh No! They then buy a new Verizon phone or something for a 2 year contract. On July 7, Apple announces a new iPhone.

They then complain that Apple should pay for them to get out of their contract with Verizon - because they had no clue a new iPhone was coming out.

People, your iPhone will STILL WORK after your 2 year contract is up. You can just pay month-to-month until a new iPhone comes out.

Anyway, I stand by my belief that Phil will announce a one more thing a Steve will walk onto the stage looking a lot better and possibly holding a new device!
I like Phil. Glad to see that he is doing the presentation.

While I don't think that it will happen, I would love to see SJ come on stage with the one more thing and that be the tablet.

Two weeks ago, Jobs let his lawyer go to the Woodside Town Council meeting to argue on his behalf about his house demolition permit. Not interesting, except for what the lawyer told the council about why he wasn't there:

"I don't think he would be strong enough if we were here until 1 a.m."

This house thing is a big deal for Jobs & he would have been there if he could have. He's definitely not 100% yet.
Obviously you don't understand how to use a lawyer.

SJ while interested, probably did not want to attend and figured that he lawyer could do it for him. Which it looks like he did. Typical executive way of doing things.

My prediction (which is based on nothing but my imagination)?

Schiller: "Oh and one more thing"

*out walks a healthy Jobs with the new Apple iPad/iNewton/iPod Touch Jumbo
That would be cool.

Looking forward to seeing Snow Leopard.

Believe that we'll see info about the new iPhone.

We may see a tablet type device.

SJ is on leave until the end of June. So it makes perfect sense that he would not be at the WWDC as a presenter or even make a guest appearance.

Does AT&T/Apple even allow you to get month-to-month for the iPhone?

Yes. Once your 2-year contract is up, you can go month-to-month.

You can't get it from the beginning of your contract, but once you fulfill your 2-year contract, you'll still automatically get service and bills each month. Keep paying them until you decide to cancel, or buy another iPhone to get hit with another 2-year contract.

A different Steve

Just imagine how "Full of Win" would respond to Stephen Hawking on the stage. I thought computers were cerebral products, meant to liberate us from physical considerations.

Yes, I do judge people by their appearance. I suspect so does everyone else. Its basic animal behavior to judge based on appearance. If you want to debate this point we can, but my degree is in Biology and I can back this up if you like.

Did not say that I was better looking. Just because I pointed out the obvious, e.g. rolls of fat handing off his body, does not mean I can a run a four minute mile or am special in anyway.

All I ask for is someone with enough person respect and self dignity that that can stay within their respective BMI range, except in extreme situations when the amount of muscle contributes so much that the index is rendered useless.

It personally offends me to see someone like this. It speaks to what is wrong in America.

Unless what is offending you is doing you or someone else around you harm, it is common courtesy to keep said opinions to ones self.

What a boatload of ******** about SJ's health...the "pundits" and "doctor friends" know as much as the little kid working for Santa Claus in Rovaniemi; to read 5 pages of this? Now THAT's what is boring...

I see no new iPhone at WWDC.

ya I see no new iphone as well. The first hour will be an entire repetition of the last keynote (3.0 preview) 15min of which would be how push works (again). The second hour will be of snow leopard.

But yes I as well believe another keynote perhaps in August detailing the new iphone and it's release in September.

Just lost my eagerness

If Jobs is ok: He'll present the iPhone in July-September. He could be in the crowd at WWDC. They could drop that a new handset is coming, and that it'll demo soon, and that'd whip up the press machine.

The OS 3.0 is a big deal. Apple could easily have 2 events - WWDC and a separate announcement of new iPhone.

Bear in mind it was over 60 minutes (80?) before we got to the iPhone 3G last year. Apple has got a lot to get through - I think we should be happy that they've got so much to talk about! People got miffed about the App Store being raved about when it was initially talked about - 1 year on - It's one of the key selling points of the platform.

If v3 iPhone has some more features that more link to Snow Leopard - they could do a joint release later on, when they're both ready. We'll see...

The earliest any UK contract will run out is Christmas this year, right? What's the date in the US?

Could anyone explain why they make Schiller to do the keynote.

What about Johnny Ive. Isn't he the right person to do the keynote if Steeve is out and might no longer present things ? Steeve is original - I admit that but Ive is just that original man.

Schiller looks like Balmer and makes all think different thing to nothing.

I vote for Johnny Ive.

Sad not to see Steve as host... but I will still download the podcast and throw it up on the big screen TV nonetheless.

I really wanted Jobs to go out like Bill Gates. Sad to see him nearing the end of his stint on the wayside. Apple is letting his image float around the company as long as possible. They need to officially announce his retirement and get on with making good products.

I do not hope this site will be renamed : SJrumors.com

Doesn't the C in WWDC mean conference ?
Or is it concert ?

I think it's about the products, not the folks presenting them.

If there will be a new iPhone version this year, i don't think you will be feeling better when buying and using it neither by it's presentation nor who did it.

Apple is headed for a disaster with this WWDC--- and they know it.

Keep in mind that WWDC is coming on the heels of the Palm Pre release and the reported MS Zune Phone.... say what you will about each product, but they will steal significant thunder from Apple.

And the Palm Pre may be the iPhone killer, after all.

Rumors suggest minimal changes in iPhone hardware- maybe video recording, a 3mp camera, and a compass... but same screen/form factor/design. Before people argue that the phone is so good that nothing needs to be changed, just remember that tech fans want something NEW-- and this device as good as it is, is stagnating, and others are playing catch up, and Palm Pre may have surpassed the iPhone.

Of course iPhone firmware 3.0 will be coming out, but it will not come out at WWDC-- just more info on it wil be released. They are shooting for summer- meaning September.

So what you will be left with is a WWDC, with no Steve Jobs, a lackluster keynote with Phil, no significant change to the iPhone, no firmware release - and newer flashier competitors devices being released around the same time. Oh yeah, and Snow Leopard will be shown, which will be largely under the hood changes, by Apple's own admission, and no significant User Interface changes or bells and whistles to the casual consumer. Snow Leopard isn't the type of thing that is going to generate more press - except in the geeky computer journals.

Apple needs a hail mary pass- so if there is a new tablet style device- it needs to be shown at WWDC.

OR Apple needs to release the new iPhone that day.
OR Apple needs to release 3.0 firmware that day.... hopefully it will be bug free.

Otherwise, this Keynote is going to be a disaster.

You're aware we are on the internet? The idea of keeping ones opinions to themselves in this context is laughable.

I was unaware that being on the internet would obviate the benefits of decorum and social grace. To target Phil Schiller due to a bulging waistline is petty and has no place in a legitimate discussion of Apple's forthcoming products. Shame. Do want you want, obviously. I'm sure poor taste isn't against the MR terms of use. In this, you're full of something other than win. IMHO, of course.

Makes sense that Jobs won't be giving the keynote. The keynotes take a LONG time to prepare. If Steve was only supposed to be BACK at the end of June, how would he have time to prepare a keynote? Schiller has probably been preparing for the keynote for the past few weeks already.

Actually, the friends who suggested this to me weren't trying to aggrandize themselves in telling me. We discussed it over dinner. I am not trying to aggrandize myself either.

I have the greatest respect for Steve Jobs, as well as gratitude for the great technology he has enabled us all with.

My hope is that Steve remains in good health. Whether or not he continues to run Apple would be secondary in my mind, even though I don't know the guy and believe that his departure from Apple would suggest to me that Apple has already reached its zenith, whereas under him, the sky is the limit.

As for your rather holier-than-thou post, this is a rumors site, and that's the rumor that I heard. I didn't post it to somehow rise in stature or accrue any status. This is just a place to talk about Apple and their products to me, not the community in which I live. Get a life.
