If you can't afford $1,600, then you're not someone that Apple needs at this event. It'll cost at least an ADDITIONAL $1,600 for airfare and hotel. Plus, you must be a REGISTERED developer (an additional $99) to activate the WWDC ticket.

$1600 for the WWDC ticket + $650 for a hotel (maybe more, maybe less, but that's what I'm paying for 8 days) + $400 for airfare from the east coast + free developer account = $2650, not $3200.

Plus you can't count the $99 dev account fee 'cause that isn't purchased FOR WWDC. That's like saying it'll cost $45,000 to drive the kids to the mall because you had to buy a car at some point.

Speaking of OS X, I'm pretty sure what's currently going on in Apple's super secret labs is probably a focus on perfecting Mac OS 10.7 / 11 to run with Capacitative Multi Touch support. That's the only real next logical step for desktop computing.

Of course, still including a physical keyboard (and a mouse for gaming =p )

On topic, super excited here for WWDC. Can't wait to see what Steve Jobs is gonna pull out of his pocket =p

I believe the tech department where I work have some of the ADC Premier subscriptions (which came with WWDC tickets I believe).

I think ADC Premier subscriptions get nerf'd and now it's just $99 for everyone with no special treatment. I could be wrong, so correct me if that's the case.

Wasn't Snow Leopard a fresh update?

I'm trying to see something that is so new in Windows 7, but I really can't. Other than a few UI features, it seems the only reason people like Windows 7 is because MS's advertising and the media told them to.

Just a small example. What is so annoying with OS-X that if you have a folder with multiple images, you need to open them one by one, in order to scroll through them, or mark them all and open them all at the same time. In WIN7 you can just switch between images after open just one. Just to mention one small thing ;) Windows 7 isn't that bad anymore, and in some functionality ways it is better then OS-X unfortunately. They stole good from Apple and improve in some segments.

With kind regards,
Bas

In OS X, just hit the space bar, the first selected image pops up, and you can go through 'em like that. Or view the folder in CoverFlow and, again, see 'em 1-by-1. You don't need to open them at all. It's all in the Finder.

OS X and the iPad OS will eventually merge. It's a gradual process, and probably the smartest thing Apple can do.

As I've said before, I wouldn't really mind this, if the iPad/iPhone OS brought some things over from the full Mac OS X. Examples include multiple users, pro apps (Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, xCode, etc.), server features, and so forth.

With so much emphasis on the iPad, iPhone & iPod Touch, I'm a little surprised the:apple:TV doesn't get more focus. I could really see it moving to Apple's A4 proc, getting the iPad OS and maybe add Nintendo Wii style gaming. Apple does hold a patent for a similar "wand" device.

On a side note, anyone else notice that the iPhone OS looks a lot like the LCARS/library system on Star Trek?

Would people stop calling it the iPhone HD noone has mentioned HD so why do people keep calling it that ????? The obvious name will be iPhone 4G

Unless it's still a 3G phone. Then people will be pissed due to false advertising. It'd be better to call it "iPhone" again. I mean, a Macbook Pro is a Macbook Pro without adding anything to the name, and there are a bunch of different looking laptops called Macbook Pro.

They should pick a name and stick to it. No need to sully the name with more crap after it.

It's anything but obvious since 4G is synonymous with LTE networks and I can pretty much guarantee the next iPhone wont support LTE networks.

They did get nerf'd. You know how you you have to renew every year? I guess Apple's just letting members who have the Premier benefits expire at the same time when their account would have expired anyways.

You're right.

It could be less, or more. It depends on the hotel you get. Hotels run from about $400 to $3000 for the week. And you COULD split the hotel room with others to save more.

For the week, you still have to account for:
1) Food. Apple gives free lunches at WWDC, plus free food on Thursday night. All the other nights you have to fend for yourself with expensive San Francisco food.
2) Transportation: You'll need Subway/Bus/Trolley Car passes or a car-rental then parking fees. It costs like $60 to get to downtown San Francisco from the airport by Taxi.
3) Wifi at the hotel (is this free, or does it cost up to $15/day? Maybe you should get that Ipad 3G! :D )
4) Frickin' stupid baggage fees with the airlines
5) Do you want to do anything around San Francisco, like go to a Giants game, visit the Wharf to see the Sea Lions, take Trolley Car rides, go out on a Napa Valley wine tour, visit the giant redwood trees, etc.

Oh goody. Mac OS X is an afterthought. :(

Goodbye Desktop Mac OS X. It is pretty official by now.

No ADA or sessions for Mac in WWDC is quite telling.

Nonsense. OS X is a mature OS. Developers that develop for it really don't need anymore insight and Apple has already said its spreading out update intervals. Right now iPhone is still the new kid on the block, and the OS with real growth. Makes sense to focus on that. OS X isn't going away any time soon and we will see a 10.7 when it's needed.

Makes sense. And to buy a case or whatever that's specific to one release of an iPhone, you can do what they do with Mac computers: add a (early '08) or (late 2009) or whatever the appropriate one is. For the iPhone it could just be iPhone (2007), (2008), (2009) & now (2010).

I recommend all these things, by the way. Don't forget Alcatraz!

Not surprising there is a lack of mention of OSX, considering how uninspired their hardware updates have been.

2007 - 200 new features!

2009 - No new features!

2011 - No new update!

Gonna feel great using such an outdated OS by next year!

While Mac OS X is a mature OS, there are many people out there who don't know how to program for Mac OS X like Windows users, people who just started developing, etc.

I'm quite happy with SL at the moment and I really dont see the need for a Major upgrade every year personally I think this may be the last 10. relase till 11 cause hasn't the past 7,8,9 gone up to .6 anyway ? i think 9 only went to 5 but still.

They don't need WWDC to start developing. They pay 99$ and be an ADC member, all the info they need about developing for OS X is available through extensive documentation.

WWDC hands on help is only required if there's a new OS and new API's in the future, which don't exist yet as a part of ADC documentation.

Like in 2008, when Apple only did announce the core features of Snow Leopard, there were presentations about Open CL and Grand Central in WWDC, and for that time, that was a new thing.

This years WWDC not focusing on OS X makes sense. 10.6 is already a new OS, 10.7 is not "soon". So probably the new API's for 10.7 aren't even ready to demonstrate yet.

Next year it'll be a lot more about OS X. This year is like 2008.
