I doubt Apple will ever put Blu-Ray in their computers. They want everything to be downloaded through iTunes.

However, that wouldn't always work. My cousin's getting married this summer & I'd like to tape it & take pictures. For my sister's wedding, I made a DVD of the ceremony and a photo slideshow. While I did make a digital copy of it for my iPhone & :apple:TV, e-mailing it & putting it up on iTunes was out of the question. Sure, a flash drive could've worked, but for my parents who are not very tech savvy, not their thing. I'm sure there are some of you who think "How hard is it to stick a flash drive into your computer & double click a file?" It's not that, but they would probably want to watch it on a big screen TV, not a small computer screen. A DVD & Blu-Ray are still the easiest way to get it out to people. My camera take video in 1080i & my cousin has a Blu-Ray player so it would be nice to be able to burn a Blu-Ray disc for her.

If I'm not mistaken, iPhone OS and Mac OS X are mentioned equally.

I think people are referring to the lack of an Enterprise IT track. Apple used to have this and provide sessions on directory services, using podcast producer, etc. These Mac OS client and server implementation sessions have been scrapped.

That's an asinine notion. Probably the DUMBEST thing Apple can do.

Why the HELL would I want my macbook pro to run anything resembling iPhone OS? The ipad has created a NEW niche in computing, and won't be coming close to Mac OS.

On an unrelated note, I could care less about Blu-Ray coming to macs. At very best all I would do with it is watch a few movies, which look way better on my 42" HDTV (which has a blu-ray player hooked up) anyway.

May be too simple for you, but for someone who needs something more than an iPad but less than a full OS X computer, it'll be fine. As I've said before, add multiple users, pro apps and the like, the iPad/iPhone OS should be good for a lot more people than you give credit to.

Which is sad. I'm in an entry-level IT job, looking for a job w/ more responsibility. While I feel I know more than just entry level stuff, I know there's a LOT of stuff I could still learn & WWDC would be a great experience for me. Learn some new skills, network with other people in the field, etc. Anyone know of another Apple IT conference?

I don't know OS X snow leopard is doing fine, most people are happy with it, and there are more exciting things going on than just another upgrade to the operating system, I for one rather see them make snow leopard as stable and functional as possible before they throw us another UI.

But that only me :p

Me too. Right now Apple does not have an ultra stable/polished OS version. They should at least release security updates for Tiger.

They should charge Gizmodo $1,000,000 for a ticket haha :p

My Apple budget is maxed out for this year, iPad, New 15 inch MBP, but I'm excited for some news on the new iPhone! Even though I'm not buying it! I'll have next years model! Unless I find a way to lose my 3GS...hmmmm. :D

It will be really interesting to see how Steve presents the new iPhone..

"And... here's the new iPhone...... although you've all seen it"

Unless they change the design... we'll see

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.50 (Nintendo DSi; Opera/507; U; en-US))

Compile 'em all said:
Goodbye Desktop Mac OS X. It is pretty official by now.

No ADA or sessions for Mac in WWDC is quite telling.

Would not be suprised to see iPhone OS 4 secretly ported to the Intel Mac platform :)

90% of iPhone OS already exists on Intel Macs...in a package called Mac OS X. The only thing that needs to be ported is UIKit (i.e. the multitouch interface part).

Would people stop calling it the iPhone HD noone has mentioned HD so why do people keep calling it that ????? The obvious name will be iPhone 4G

Unless it has LTE which will take AT&T forever to put up, or it's on Sprint's current and running in multiple cities WiMax, it'll just be called the iPhone or something.

Not my area of expertise but I don't see Apple making an old fashioned CDMA version but maybe something else for them if Verizon announce a wide scale release of a modern system soon. Perhaps Apple can help drag Verizon into the 21st Century. It would be great for AAPL if this could happen.

Typical, especially since AT&T's network is just faster, yet, no one can seem to access it in certain areas. I am no V fanboy, but at least those that I know that are using their V 3G networks are actually using them, instead of looking for them.

I'm quite happy with SL at the moment and I really dont see the need for a Major upgrade every year personally I think this may be the last 10. relase till 11 cause hasn't the past 7,8,9 gone up to .6 anyway ? i think 9 only went to 5 but still.

OS 8 went to 8.6 (I LOVED that update)
OS 9 went to 9.2.2

It's feasible they skip it.

But when Leopard came out Apple said that intervals between major releases would be shorter.

It’s almost like Apple is incapable of focusing on iPhone OS and Mac OS X at the same time.

1. Leopard was delayed because of iPhone OS.
2. Snow Leopard was a non-update update (presumably so they could focus most of their engineering resources on iPhone OS, really what were the feature teams at Apple working on during this time?).
3. Lag time between OS X releases continues to increase (even though Jobs said they wouldn’t after the Leopard delay).
4. No Mac track and very few Mac sessions at WWDC ’10.

I guess there is more money in selling consumer electronic devices.

I think that's what the original poster meant. Kill off the desktop Mac OS X & replace it with the iPhone's version of Mac OS X.

As many people have said, the iPhone & iPad is where the $$$ is now, so why focus on its computer & full Mac OS X line?

iPhone ! Goes to Verizon Wireless! I called it.

I can only wish. I have been wanting to get the iphone for what seems like ages now, but there is just no way that I will leave Verizon for AT&T. The service in my area for AT&T is horrible.

Yeah, and when the iPod 1.0 came out Steve said flash memory based MP3 players were garbage b/c they had tiny screens and didn't hold much. But of course the iPod shuffle is "incredible." I don't think I have enough fingers to count how many times Steve said one thing and then did the opposite.

I agree; that was my point, that whatever you hear today may change tomorrow.

I think Apple should do a spoof and have Gray introduce the new iPhone.

LOL, that would be funny.... "As you have already seen, this is the new iPhone that I left after WAY too many bears at the bar....."

Edit: That would be beers, not bears :)

Obviously!
Since Apple created iTunes, everything has changed towards that kind of business...
  • iPod - iTunes (First just music, and then movies and tv episodes)
  • iPhone - AppStore (First webapps... and then platform apps plus iTunes). Now Apple also has iAd
  • iPad - iBooks...

I hope you see the trend here... Apple's main business right now might be computers... but they, for sure, want to change that, because they know they get more money from you buying a song, an app or a book than you buying a laptop and mac os x...

In fact... I do believe these late macbook pro updates, no mac pro updates yet... the possibly delayed Mac OS X 10.7... are the consequence of all this.

But it's all about money... though we should've known when Apple lost its "Computer" second name :)
Enjoy while it lasts... because I don't it will last much longer...

I agree. I vaguely recall a similar scenario in the past, although nowhere near as dramatic as what's going on now. Apple has some incredibly bright marketing & communications people on their team...I bet there will be some humour involved.

I look forward to it actually.

I don't know what the omission or lack of focus on OS X and desktop apps are about, and maybe I'm just weird, but I'm looking forward to seeing if you'll eventually be able to launch iPhone/iPad apps natively on the OS X desktop, which will probably signal a need for touchscreen iMacs and MacBooks.

People wanna rip, err, I mean back-up their BluRay movies
