They haven't done that at WWDC since '09 or something. If they were doing hardware, they would have released an iOS 8 beta this month so developers could try it in time for the next iPhone launch.

What I meant with that comment was we can't say for sure what hardware will be announced at a WWDC because nothing specific was mentioned in the press release. But I remember in 2012 a lot of people saying Apple wouldn't be announcing any Macs at WWDC because it's a software developer conference, and sure enough Macs were announced.

WWDC announcements are Rorschach tests for nerds. They tell you more about the person than the event.

I see a new MacBook Air in there!

I see a puppy, a dancing woman in ethnic african costume, and a map of China.

What does it mean?!

That looks like Bowser.

I never admit to what I see in these because it is always on the same theme if you catch my drift.

Dear Jony Ive,
please, oh please, don't delegate your Human UX design work of OSX to the marketing team again. They will do the same as with iOS, copy what Microsoft is doing and we will end up with chromeless windows with square edges in an really ugly palette and a slower and buggy OS.

Have mercy

Thanks

I think the "tiles" in the logo are representing the square of apple TV

Yes, each tile is obviously represents a screen! And notice how the tiles are all difference sizes? Because between iOS and OS X you can target your apps at any different screen size. All the way from the very small (iWatch), to the medium (iPad, Mac) to the very large (Apple TV) !!

I've noticed that if I zoom out the image really small, the icons start to look like pixels on a TV screen, and the blurred apple logo becomes sharp, maybe meaning the image is supposed to be seen from afar.

To me this means this image announces a TV from Apple, and also has the proportions of the new TV, which is wider than full HD, more like the 21:9 TVs from Philips.

Pardon my ignorance; and I agree that they would never release iOS 8 without the new iPhone… but when was the several months of testing for the first four iPhones that were released in the summer?

For the very first one there wasn't any beta testing because there was no App Store and therefore there was NO developers to test their apps for the new iOS. As you very well know, now there are hundreds of millions of apps that need to be tested for the new iOS before it is released. That was for the first one. For the fallowing few, as others have mentioned the betas were released few months prior public release.

Maybe, but why is the Apple TV all the sudden such a big thing that the WWDC logo should contain hints related to it? I honestly don't understand.

Exciting.

If they do announce iOS 8 I hope they don't stop supporting the iPad 2, Ill take a neutered version of iOS 8 over being stuck on 7

I'd like to a see a block of these developer tickets sold to the highest bidders. Make the amount paid above the conference fee go to a charity of the bidders choice or a list of charities.

Horrible idea, it completely cuts out small developers.

Logo

The 2014 logo shows scaled squares. A hint at making iOS work on multiple screen sizes? (phones/tablets/tv's/carplay?).

Scaled squares to indicate that Apples entire hardware lineup are now all using retina screens.

Interesting though how the first "W" doesn't quite right full height on the right side.

Sure would be nice if Apple put some time and effort into the site, unlike others.

Sorry but that Google I/O site is a bit boring. Anyway, why would Apple need to bother anyway? The tickets for WWDC sell out within seconds. They don't need to work hard with fancy graphics and fanfare to entice people about WWDC.
