Hope there's still a March event :(

You're concerned over an event that's seven weeks out of not happening? WWDC is a completely separate event from a Keynote. WWDC has thousands of attendee's and it's a week long of festivities. One reason, This advanced notice gives the developers time to plan accordingly. Which sells out very quick.

Keynotes are announced with in two weeks from the actual event accordingly and has been that way for years.

Apple is the only conference that I know of that uses a lottery system to get in.
Every major confrence and event like Blizzcon, Pax, E3 and others should do the same. The lottery removes the issues of everyone rasing to get a ticket and crashing the servers or 1 second of lag meaning you miss out on a ticket. FOr these kind of events a lottery should be manditory.

If any tickets are not sold after the lottery then they would go on general sale.

Let's get this out of the way: The 2017 WWDC keynote was a huge disappointment. Tim Cook should be fired.

Also, for everyone who posts a comment here re: "XYZ hardware better be announced at WWDC or Apple is Doomed (tm)," please shut. the. f. up. WWDC is a DEVELOPER'S CONFERENCE. Let me write that again:

WWDC IS A DEVELOPER'S CONFERENCE.

WWDC

IS

A

DEVELOPER'S

CONFERENCE

WWWDC 2013....MacPro, MacBook Airs were introduced.
Yes, hardware is a rare occurrence, but it's happened before...just saying.

I left iPhone because of the software, not necessarily the hardware. Really hoping that Apple makes some huge strides in iOS 11. After the honeymoon period wore off with iOS 10, I realized that it literally was just an iMessage update. Now to be fair, that's pretty much what Apple said all along. But for me, it took a while for it to sink in.

Hoping for some better notifications, better share options/cards, deeper third party app integration, default apps (that's a stretch), and PLEASE -- a better Siri.

Cheers to that.

I'm confused by this, iOS 10 introduced an entire new notification API.

Seems the invite is a nod to multiculturalism and a jab at the travel/immigration ban. Recognition for strength and prosperity from all walks-of-life. I understand it is bordering on politics, then again Tim Cook has been quite vocal.

Just stop. Because when Tim DOESN'T announce new hardware at WWDC (because it's a DEVELOPER'S CONFERENCE) then we'll have to endure 25+ pages of posts from you and every other armchair expert here about how Apple is doomed, worst WWDC ever, worst keynote ever, Steve Jobs would never do this, where's updated MacBooks with FW 800 ports like I wanted blah, blah, everyone should be fired and on and on and on and on.

IT. IS. A. DEVELOPER'S. CONFERENCE.

Yes, but the notifications can still be handled much better. I didn't realize this until I tried Android -- Android groups all apps' notifications into one notification, and if you drag down on it then you can see all the notifications from that app. Also in the top left corner of the screen, you're able to see a glance of which notifications you have, without having to pull down the notification shade from the top of the screen.

There's some work to be done with iOS notifications.

Though I will say -- contradictory as it sounds, I was a fan of the large, wasteful (screen space-wise) notification cards on iOS 10 compared to iOS 9.

I feel that iOS needs to be tweaked, not sure why an option cannot be available to have notifications be in the form of cards at the bottom and Safari address bar and navigation control at the bottom as well. Just seems strange to stretch ones thumb or use two hands to type an address or navigate Safari, when it would be simpler to have it located at the bottom or an option to allow it. Customization, is the devils doing at Apple :p

For information use as WiFi, Mobile Network Strength, battery status, etc at the top makes sense. The rest should be located at the bottom, seems that all these companies taken the desktop browser of how it looks and navigates and applied it to a mobile device without taking into consideration thumb/finger fatigue. Work smarter not harder, I say :)

I hate the way android does it, why do we need so many notifications for the same app? The latest one should win, the app should provide the rest of what user needs to know.

[doublepost=1487268254][/doublepost]Unless you really don't have a life, why would anyone pay to see this in a hall. Most of you are so pathetic. It's a freaking product they're selling folks, what the f**k is wrong with you all? Get excited about something real.

Not sure how having access to some of the most brilliant developers in the industry and the countless workshops throughout the week is pathetic. You are simply missing the point of the convention. I for one am very excited for WWDC as I am every year because it's not all about the main keynote as many would perhaps believe if you haven't experienced it before.

Wasn't there recent issues with the iPad supply chain? If march was even a plan I suspect it's out now, why would you release a new product when your having problems producing one over a year old?
Because the same supply chain is now making the next iteration and don't have the supply nor capability to make both at the same capacity.

I agree and disagree. If I've gotten three emails over the past hour, I like that I can see the sender/subject line for all of them at once. If I've gotten a Snapchat from two different folks, I want to see who those folks are.

However there are some apps (can't think of any off the top of my head) that absolutely need just one notification at a time. That I agree with.

Wow this is quite early, especially since they're supposed to be holding a March event as well.
Uh, WWDC is within a week of its usual time. It's just the announcement of that time that has come early. It's been suggested that the early announcement may have been to give folks more time to prep for it being in a different location.

My Magic 8 ball gives me the answer "Outlook not so good".

It's right too, I hate using Outlook.
Old joke but you still get points :)

Still, for developers it's worth every penny.

Actually, unless you need face time with Apple engineers, it really isn't anymore since all the content will be live streamed. The opportunity for networking is always good, but you can go to AltConf or any of the evening events that occur during WWDC to accomplish the same thing.

Apple is the only conference that I know of that uses a lottery system to get in. I wonder if they will follow the tradition and preview new iOS and MacOS updates for the keynote itself? Apple Street view ready to preview? Maybe something VR related for a change?
Google does it as well.

This is great. San Francisco has become far too expensive for trade-shows. When you're spending $300 a night for a hotel, $25 per meal and $50 to Taxi from SFO to SOMA, it's becoming impossible for indie developers to spend $1599 plus another $1500 just for accommodations.

San Jose is far more affordable.

Let alone the airfare to fly into SFO

I think you misunderstood me, I was saying that the announcement was early. The reason of location makes sense.
