likely most iPhone users don't care what happens to Siri or what Apple does with the recordings cuz most have it turned off

I'm glad they're doing something about this, but with all this bragging about privacy as their main focus compared to Android, this is a bit unsettling. I'm not really a fan of Apple only doing things about these issues when they're brought to the public eye.

I watched the original Siri announcement, and they hardly mentioned how our data was being used. Tried looking for their previous Siri policies. Can’t find them. Wanna check to see if they’ve been lying about it. I’m sure we asked why you needed to be connected to the internet to use Siri and they told us why. I checked all their policies when GDPR came in. Wanna check previous ones though. No point talking about privacy if they’re talking rubbish

The thing is people trust Apple blindly. It really is blindly aswell because they are probably the least transparent of all when it comes to what data they are collecting.

Sounds like they’re making some positive changes. Hopefully Amazon and Google will follow suit, not holding my breath.

When did anyone else let your phone's camera be remotely accessed for a month? Game over.

So, you’re going to base your argument on news clips of things that have happened? Here I was hoping for a technical discussion of the actual underlying architecture of Android vs iOS or the business model of Google vs Apple. You know, facts about how they operate, not sensational headlines.

If you want to play that game:

https://arstechnica.com/information...0-million-downloads-executed-secret-payloads/

The most recent example of how utterly pathetic Android is for privacy/security. I suggest reading the article and not just the headline to understand what actually happened and what the technical differences are between Android and iOS that would make this virtually impossible with iOS (I say virtually impossible because there’s always some chance, no matter how remote, that someone might find a way to do this on iOS).

What was the policy before this? Does anyone know where I can find a copy? Specifically with how HomePod used data

No. Absolute statement of fact which can be easily proven.

Why did apple use contractors instead of apple employees in the first place? Cause apple cares so much about privacy? Hahahahaha. So show your proof apple puts privacy above profits. You said it is easily proven.

I trust Apple with privacy more than other companies, but I still wear a tin foil hat whilst sleeping to protect myself.

I'd take that over not criticising them for anything. Accountability is extremely important.
One is as bad as the other. It’s no different than the boy who cried wolf.

As far as accountability..are you suggesting google and amazon have none?

Going against the NDA and committing a crime does not normally get one rewarded. Ask Snowden.

No it isn't. Giving them a pass on everything is much worse.

I'm staying letting multi billion dollar companies like Apple, Google, Facebook, Amazon etc behave with absolutely impunity, with the reach and influence that they have, is a very bad idea.

They should be scrutinised as much as possible, if they make a claim and they don't live up to it they should be accountable.

With Android I get to choose what I install, encryption, VPN, etc.

With Apple I don't get to choose if Apple are going to let people access my camera and microphone

The "technical differences" is Apple is untrustworthy and doesn't let their users protect themselves

Yes it is. Hyper focusing is just as bad as automatic criticisms. Nothing in-between taking a rational and balanced approach is out the window.

if they make a claim and live up to it they should be applauded and not criticized.

Why do you always move the goalposts? Can you not stick to what people said without fabricating things you “think” they said?

First off, I said iOS was better because of privacy, security and App ecosystem. Why are you trying to constrain the discussion to privacy only while ignoring the other two? Second, neither my post or your post that I replied to made any mention about profits. So why are you trying to weasel profits into this discussion with the comment “show your proof Apple puts privacy above profits”?

If you want to discuss my comment about why I said iOS is superior then just say so and we can continue.

Based on the screenshot below, I’m not sure all your information is 100%. Seems like Apple is trustworthy and maybe even has better and easier controls than android.

Move the goal posts? A bit disingenuous but ok... However where did Siri recordings ever go to third parties? Contractors are not third parties.

Ok so just show me the option to not let contractors listen to me thanks.
