I'm just going to say that I was far more excited about Apple Arcade until watching that video. I'll reserve final judgement for release which will include a one month trial for free.

It was kinda sad that a recent MacBook Pro 13" couldn't even render the keys on the keyboard in that lava game as anything other than a pile of mush. For that you need a $1199 eGPU which gets you Nintendo Switch quality graphics. It's no wonder that gaming on the Mac is such a joke. I thought Metal was supposed to be good? You'd think it would be a requisite for being on Apple Arcade.

I don't want to be a downer, but this does not look very impressive to me if these are the top-level launch titles they're highlighting. I'd rather put that $60 (for a year) towards a single Switch game to be honest.
No one’s highlighting anything. These are 6 games out of 100 for internal Apple testing purposes. 9to5 snuck inside. To judge what the service will be like we will have to wait for it to launch.

Judges by the reactions from the YouTube channel you're distinctly in the minority.

That's only true if you completely ignore the App Store and the fact that games are the #1 download.

No matter how many times Apple proves these locals on Macrumors are blowhards no nothings, they still prognosticate what is or what will become a success, if only Apple did x, y and z.

Maybe they watched the video on 9to5 like I did. The games Jeff played... underwhelming imo. Most looked to be developed for a much younger demographic like preteens. Worryingly, Jeff had to turn down the settings on the last game using a '19 MBP. He had to use an eGPU to play at higher settings. Understanding that the games are still in development, it's still not a good look. There's plenty of time for the effort to get better and get better games. But first look, unimpressive.

The answer is obvious. People here constantly post without even reading the articles. For example, people asking questions that were clearly answered in the article. If they can't be bothered to read an article it's far less likely they spent time watching a video.

I have no idea what the games will be like. If I had seen a short preview for Minecraft with it's 80's cheap 8-bit graphics before it came out I'd bet on it flopping. There's no way anyone can tell me if a game is going to be good or bad based on a ridiculously short preview.

I can always tell when Apple has a good idea by the amount of knee-jerk negativity being posted. It's a sure sign that people who don't like Apple are worried about something.

Blowhard and no nothings? Heh. This coming from a guy who wrote a paragraph claiming Apple's Pro Display is microLED and manufactured by Japan Display. Kinda hard to name call when that's on your resume.

Hmmm.

The video is almost 18 minutes long. Yet we have people commenting on the game quality being lousy with time stamps minutes after the article was posted.

So.......did you even watch the video?

There's a scrub bar that lets you move forward in the video to fast forward or watch what you want. You can also watch in 2x speed.

Hmm this doesn't look targeted towards actual gamers.

Except... Beneath a Steel Sky remake... maybe I'll chip in $5 for one month...

If you're just interested in one game, it might be better to just buy that game instead of renting it.

This is funny how Apple marketing employees here try to helplessly "rebrand" people disappointed with what they see into "Apple's haters". But this "rebranding" just cannot alter the videos we just watched :( Apple, you have to come up with something better than that. The play with words doesn't work anymore, I'm losing my trust and expectations.

So typical of MR.....

Predicting doom on an unfinished product. How about waiting for the service/games to be launched THEN give your opinion?

So far MR forum member have had a bad batting average at predicting Apple’s doom.

These have no ads or IAP. And they're still in development. Unless you mean art style, which is a creative choice and a personal opinion, so to each their own.

Also these are going to be on all apple devices. So they're running on a MBP to an XR. If saves carry over automatically, that's a slam dunk in my book.

These are mostly indie titles, not AAA. You're not going to get Uncharted budgets for these games. I've been looking forward to Where the Cards Fall for ages, excited that it got funding from Apple, I love the studio. It's $5 a month for a constant growing library. I really want to know what people who are disappointed were expecting

I feel like some were expecting huge budget games, which makes no sense.

Jesus, even an free game like Hearthstone is far better than this
Not a free game.

Sometimes you don’t need to test the steak to know it won’t taste very good.
Horrible analogy.

Next year ps5 will debut with cgi level graphics and apple is in ps2 era ;d

Nothing more than just mobile games. Why waste your MacBook battery?! Even the last game that’s to be a top tier game can’t even run on a 2019 MacBook Pro unless it’s on low setting. The lava game looks like a ps1 game lol.

Looking forward to playing Beyond a Steel Sky and to see what the publishers bring to it.

I’m wondering why more don’t understand that. Seems many here don’t understand Apple’s demographics and target audience.

Jeff’s great.

These look like silly children’s games.

I saw another silly game that was, as best as I can tell, a puberty simulator. You play as like an outcast kid who goes to a dance and nobody wants to dance with you.

So incredibly silly. Yeah, there’s a reason they went to Apple—nobody else wanted to make these stupid “games” because they wouldn’t make money.

Apple can host them at a loss, no problem.

Oh, I understand it.

These are like the “indie games” that “everyone” clamors for but nobody buys because they suck.

It’s just an excuse for Apple to pat themselves on the back for serving “unrepresented” gamers.

I think some other developer girl with blue hair said she made her game in the “apocalyptic road trip” genre. Lol. Okay.

I mean, there might be a few decent ones, but I think most will suck.

There are PLENTY of sucky games in the App Store to play without having to pay $5.00 a month for the privilege of experiencing their suckiness

It would be nice if the great Jeff Minter was to release some titles on this platform. I’d love to play Revenge of the Mutant Camels or Hovver Bovver again outside of a 64 emulator.

Not a good look for gaming on the Mac. This is effectively turning macOS into a shovelware platform for iOS games crossported to Mac judging by what I have seen so far.

I know that this stuff is pre-release but those games are really chugging along on a 2019 MacBook and they look like bland versions of common iOS Free to Play apps with a nice bit of graphical polish applied to them.
