That's only true if you completely ignore the App Store and the fact that games are the #1 download.

Understandable but can Apple hardware such as a iMac or a Macbook handle such games like GTA or MK11 the graphics card on Macs are not really that high end for video games. The problem with Macs you really can't change like the graphics card or can you?

So they’re launching a service with free2play trash just having the ads & in-app purchases removed but charging you monthly to keep them removed. I think I’ll pass on this one. Wake me in when mobile gaming actually has something of interest.

I don't want to be a downer, but this does not look very impressive to me if these are the top-level launch titles they're highlighting. I'd rather put that $60 (for a year) towards a single Switch game to be honest.

Yup, I too think AAA Switch games like Witcher 3 are far more worth than the entire lot of these casual games.

Good to see those Apple CPU’s exploiting that “more powerful than a desktop CPU” power!

Forgot to add /sarcasm? ;)

I agree. If they only put that $6b budget on the gaming part of their services, we'd see a higher quality, well thought out, gaming platform.

Yup. They should just pay well-known game devs to port to iOS too. For example, look at the Switch port of Witcher 3. The Switch is way less powerful than recent iOS devices (apart from the built-in and superior physical controls); yet, Witcher 3 itself is better than the entire lot of the current Arcade games.

Too bad the only originally AAA ports are heavily dumbed down and not supported - see what happened to the two XCOM 1 ports. (And the complete lack of an XCOM 2 port.) With Apple's paying for ports, a LOT more decent games would be available on iOS.

Hmm this doesn't look targeted towards actual gamers.

Except... Beneath a Steel Sky remake... maybe I'll chip in $5 for one month...

BTW, this game has been released as a standalone game years (at least 6-7?) ago on iOS.

We were excited with Apple TV 4 and all the Games when it came out. I was expecting my grandkids would love it. Then there was the "in app purchase" that pretty much destroyed any enjoyment.

Yeah, tvOS gaming ended up being a huge disappointment.

I personally was really excited about the ATV4, and would check out all the rumors on it.

I remember there was rumors stating that the ATV4 would have at least an A8X, and have the HW for Xbox 360 quality gaming. There was also rumors about it getting the A9X.

Instead, we got the under-powered A8, 200MB limit of static app storage, the Siri Remote requirement, and the Crossy Roads demo.

My heart sank when I saw that Crossy Roads demo......

Looks pretty OK.

The turtle game reminds me of a game on iOS called Mr. Crab.

I'd love to see a return of the Popcap games that are unfortunately no longer working on current Mac OS versions like Zuma's Revenge and Peggle. I'm more entertained by mindless things like that than following a thin storyline and wandering around.

So typical of MR.....

Predicting doom on an unfinished product. How about waiting for the service/games to be launched THEN give your opinion?

So far MR forum member have had a bad batting average at predicting Apple’s doom.

I'd kill for the to release all the old arcade atari and early nintendo games... that's for $10 a month!

This is a strong start but if you want to achieve a perfect macrumors comment, you should also include something about how it will be a business failure, is symbolic of the decline of Apple, or would upset Steve Jobs.
Nope, disqualified out of the gate. The judges require mention of Steve Jobs and "rolling in his grave". If the grave and rolling isn't mentioned, you can't win.

Don't think so? Ever heard them speak about their social initiatives?

I won't go further because I'll catch a ban for PRSI content, but yeah, Apple sure does love it some virtue signaling.

What you cynically call virtue signaling from Apple's positions, actions, and behavior being at odds with your life experiences and beliefs, Apple doesn't give a second thought to not being inclusive. Apple's views all of their customers as (just) people. And everyone is a potential customer.

These have no ads or IAP. And they're still in development.
Very much this - these are games that don't have to try to extract money from the users, and this doesn't have to be factored into gameplay (think "paywall" - that boss that's impossible unless you grind for a year, "or buy this special sword") - they can be structured for enjoyment rather than profit. And, presumably, if the game is popular, Apple can throw money at the devs to keep adding additional content. Could be a bit of a paradigm shift in the market. We'll see.

My emoji squirt gun tells me Apple’s not inclusive of some constitutional rights.

The squirt gun is virtue signaling, by the way.

Honestly I believe those games are dumb.
Some of them are just bad copy of other famous games so, even the originality is missing. I understand that those are just a few of many are coming but if you really want to show a preview, why don't you show the best one? something that could be a symbol of what this new platform is aiming?
For what I know now it looks to me the platform is just aiming for cheap garbage with the only benefits there are no ads or in-app purchase.

Don't forget that you also must talk about how much you hate the butterfly keyboard.

I hope this becomes near Xbox gamepass levels of good at some point. Like some of the top meaty iOS games on it. Right now I’m not really interested from what I see.

Please...continue to use the phrase "virtue signaling." It's so adorable being cloaked in smarmy righteous messaging.

I'll simply call it what it is: Taking a position.

Taking a position: some people’s beliefs are not welcome here.

I guess Apple doesn’t really care about some “customers,” despite your previous post.

Super “inclusive!”

The fact is Apple takes social positions that exclude or insult the beliefs of a lot of people.

You can call it “positions” and I can call it “virtue signaling” but we both agree it happens.

And when some of those positions are taken? Some people’s beliefs or ideas are excluded.

Apple is inclusive of the socially “correct” opinions. That’s all.

Yup. And so far, I support all of Apple's positions. And am thus a customer.

Similarly, I would hope that people who don't support Apple's positions would seek out other manufacturers. It does take courage to vote with your wallet. More likely, I suspect most will cave on their principles.

That looks super boring. Just like Apple TV+.
Just wait for the Big Bird game to release. ;)
