Called and spoke to a supervisor, he said he was gonna send one out to me.

I told him I had already ordered one, and he said the only thing we can do is send out a bumper since that's what fixes a problem.

I said my girlfriend is getting a new iPhone soon and to send it anyway just in case there are still issues.

I was hoping to get a dock or something else besides the bumper, but maybe with 2 bumpers I get twice the reception :D

Why would you get a dock? Does that do something to solve the problem?

Just called. They pretty much just kept repeating that Apple knew about the Issue and that nothing could be done at this time.

Haha, I got it first try, under half an hour. I guess I'm lucky :)

Maybe, another call to a different supervisor will work though

I've called three times, and have been talking to a Senior Advisor who is supposed to call me back in the morning. Apparently, I'm part of Apple's R&D now because he's got me performing tests to see how the reception changes. I just want something to fix the freaking problem!

Just proves some people are complaining so they can get free stuff.

yeah...but i guess people view it as payment for their troubles.

but that happens when you buy stuff sometimes. getting a dud. getting a lemon. getting a bad product. don't know why people think they are entitled to stuff..probably has to do with the apple fanbase (which i am a part of haha).

If it were any other product, I would have just returned it and moved on to another offering.

I think I may just call tomorrow and say...

"I've read online that people are being compensated for the reception issue with the iPhone 4, so I was hoping I could get credit towards the Apple store for my bumper I have already purchase" :p

If they can't do anything I'll deal... I'm not going to badger the Apple employees like some of the people in this thread...

Everyone here is missing the point. I didn't ask for the bumper bus asked me if I wanted one. I wasn't calling apple care to complain, I called for support on a fix. That's the difference with me an everyone else here that just wants free stuff.

I know most of this is in good fun, but I wonder why anyone on forums bother saying anything is 'confirmed' when nobody will believe you anyhow? And even if one person confirms something from their own experience, it rarely applies universally...

I agree with you and don't blame you for anything. But this thread has become flooded with people wanting those who were offered a free bumper or something else to hold their hand in the process so they can also get one.

I called just to express my opinion, really didn't want a bumper considering I have a case except I don't like using it.. Anyways, they told me the fix for now is a piece of tape on the sensor, and you'll be okay. Seriously? Tape on my new phone? Lol.

Well that's what most are doing. I called, I have 6 iPhone 4's all having reception issues.

I want a fix. That's best we got so far. I shouldn't have to spend $150 for damn bumpers to talk on my phones.

6 iPhones for yourself... you must be popular.

I've seen the videos of the 3GS having the same exact issue running iOS4... so either the problem was there before and people just weren't freaking out about it, or there is a real possibility that software can fix the issue.

Maybe next time there will be fewer people being first to new technology that can't show a bit of patience while things are sorted out... just like what happened to the EVO and Incredible etc.

P.S. I had all kinds of yellow on my screen when I got the phone... its all clear now. I am confident the signal thing (that I'm not seeing... and of course I never saw any issues on wifi with my iPad either once I moved my wifi to provide proper coverage) will be fixed soon as well.

Why do you need 6? Are you trying to show off?

You guys should stop asking for free bumpers, because it isn't going to fix the problem.

I live 1750 ft from an ATT cell tower.

Hmm this may mean that you don't actually have to touch it to cause the problem. May be just block it at a close proximity.

Haha very popular guy. ;)

That sucks about the bumpers - if I was going to get an iPhone..I would have opted without one.

I called just for a refund on my bumper and they offered to send me something in the 75 dollar price range as compensation. So I picked the in ear headphones. I have a case number also, but I don't know if it proves anything by posting it.

Wow really? That naive?

I obviously don't use 6 phones myself. It's a business and we have 5 on it and then a 6th by itself.

I paid for all 6 though. My point is this: I am experiencing it with all my phones and trying to run a business on these phones. I shouldn't have this sort of issue. These types of issues SHOULD NOT make it to general public. This is a BIG issue.

I was not spending $150 MORE to talk on my phones. So I had it made right, in my eyes.

I called earlier today and ended up talking to a supervisor that said they would put me on a list of people that are having the issue and would like the bumper case as a solution. They said I would get one (or they would reimburse me on the case i already ordered) if they get the go ahead to do it and they provided me with their personal work e-mail and number.

They did say that there's a few things being considered - A) The software fix, B) Doing a recall, and C) Giving everyone free bumpers.

I'll be interested to see what the outcome is. I just want to see the issue fixed though, because it IS an issue, no matter how strong Steve Jobs tries to put up the reality shield. He can say other phones have this issue all he wants, but it's not this bad with other phones. You don't go from full bars to 1 bar with other phones.

It doesn't work like that in the States. Unless you jailbreak your phone, you're stuck with AT&T and a contract. And even if you jailbreak it, you still need to have a service contract with another carrier in order to put their sim card in the phone. I could go buy a $30 dumb phone that has no web ability and the only change in my bill would be a $30 savings from not having a data plan (which is now required with all smart phones). Your rate plan is the same regardless of the device you use.

It works like that everywhere. Here in the UK, once you've run out your contract, you can go onto a "simplicity" contract (on o2). This gives you exactly the same minutes/texts as the £35 2 year contract, but it's on a month-to-month basis, and only costs £20 a month.

That extra £15 a month goes towards paying for the phone. Buying the phone sim-free gives you the option of just having the phone and going with different networks on PAYG as and when you want to.

That's how subsidies work. The phone costs £599 (32GB). You pay a higher contract price and it will cost less, because you pay for the phone as you go along.
