Crap - store pickup is not available as an option. Looks like I have to wait (because I live right near a store in NH that doesn't charge sales tax and I'm cheap).
If the Apple Store near you doesn't charge you sales tax then it shouldn't matter. Sales tax is only charged based on where you are located. If in your state or region sales tax is not charged then ordering it online shouldn't be any different.
That only matters if where it's being shipped from is in the same state you live in and that state charges sales tax.

HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!

We've been struggling with an ATV 2nd gen for a while now. This cannot get delivered soon enough! With the exception of football on Sunday, my family watches everything on our Apple TV.

Ordered the 32GB and its expected to be delivered on the 30th!

The dates are ranged there is no guarantee you'll get it on the 30th. I was about to pay for shipping but then I saw that so I just took the fee option.

Apps/games are only allowed to be 200MB max. Anything over that they must download every time the app is run and there are limits on how much they can download also. Because of this, it's not likely you'll see games much over the 200MB maximum.
Close, but not quite accurate. The initial download is only allowed to be 200MB max. When you run the game, it can download more (from Apple's cloud service), and that data stays on your Apple TV as long as you keep running that app. If your Apple TV's storage starts to get full, then the device will start deleting that extra downloadable data starting with apps that you haven't run in a while - only then will an app need to redownload its data. So apps that you run a lot won't need to redownload the excess data unless you let your Apple TV's storage fill up.

This is probably an incredibly dumb question.. But safe to assume this will support Apples TV app once it's released?

Not putting anyone down for going with the 32GB, but you have to keep in mind that you're not getting "32GB". With the OS and built-in apps, plus the algorithm to calculate the REAL storage space (which ends up being less storage) the 32GB may come shipped with 25-26GB max.

Apple TV (4th generation) 64GB $199.00

-------------------------------

Hope I am in the '3 day' range .... I really want to play with it over the weekend.

I thought about the same thing but when I looked closely and saw the dates ranged. That mean there is not guarantee and you could get it in the last day which is November 3rd. So I just chose the free option instead. I will walk into the 24 hour Apple Store Friday morning and wait to purchase one in person so I can have it on day one. Then the one I orders I'll just give to my girlfriend or my dad.

Can't you do HDMI passthrough?

I tried with no success. My TV has an optical port - so I went from TV to Receiver with optical cable and went HDMI from current Apple TV to TV. I can't get any sound from Apple TV. Tried many different settings and couldn't get it to work. TV audio works, but now I don't get 5.1 surround on available channels/networks. I gave up and re-routed back to how I originally had set-up. Any thoughts? My receiver is a Yamaha which is about 4 - 5 yrs old. Simple solution is to buy a new receiver, but not money I want to spend right now.

Yes I am totally aware of that.
But Apple is so rich they can afford to swallow some of that currency fluctuation.
Did our wages increase? No. So have Apple products gotten more expensive for Canadians? Yes.

But you also have a choice to buy them or not buy them. Owning an Apple product is not a law requirement.

Have to wait for others to receive theirs... Not having access to the NHL Game Centre app would be a deal breaker. I assume it will be available since it is even available on my ATV 2, but... not taking any chances :)

Up to a max os 2.2GB then it will start to swamp portions of the App even if you have plenty of storage available. Maybe at some point they will increase that limit. But still 2.2gb is pretty large "per app".

That was written by the main Plex developer. He said the first submission of Plex was rejected but they have since submitted a second time, presumably after fixing whatever Apple was complaining about, and hopefully the second try gets approved!

Thanks! I'm officially on board... Plex is the deciding factor for me.

I tend to believe  TV will be in stores Friday. So, I'll take a visit on Friday to the  Store.

Their TV streaming app, at least I assume it will have a separate app.

Ah, OK. I haven't even been thinking about the rumored Apple TV service. I've just been looking forward to the app store. I ordered two of the SteelSeries controllers to go with my new ATV today. :)

I hope I was early enough to get one on Friday, wouldn't mind Saturday - but I really want to have it on the weekend ...

How does TV work if you're not using your TV for sound? Right now I have a soundbar hooked up to my TV and when I'm using my TV the soundbar switches to optical. How will this work now that TV no longer has optical port?

I have an optical output from my TV that goes into my receiver. So HDMI feeds to TV, then out to my receiver.
It's a much simpler setup than the old days where I used my receiver for A/V switching and had Video going to TV, and audio going somewhere else. Now it's simply HDMI from everything to TV, and Optical from TV to receiver. Never have to adjust the input on the receiver, just turn it on.

I do lament the loss of Optical audio, but this should be a nice upgrade. Will wait on this for now -- especially curious for app experience and some initial reviews.

just my opinion, but I wouldn't get apple care on an apple tv.
no spinning harddrive to wear out, no delicate screen to crack, it's not a device that you normally take with you - so won't get wet, or pounded in bottom of a backpack...
Agreed. Couple that with the fact that Apple is only charging $29 for the Applecare, makes me wonder if it will ever break? When Applecare is that cheap chances are it's just extra money Apple is getting that will never be used to repair any TV's.

They haven't announced that yet. That'll come...but probably not until the spring.
I know that, I meant safe to assume once it is released that this ATV will support it. I don't want them pulling something like needing a new ATV or something for it.. ha, I realize that seems doubtful. Just wanted some reassurance from other people.
