I got a "there's a problem with your payment" screen when I tried to order, so I called Citibank right away and got their fraud department. The person I spoke to there said Citi was blocking *everything* to Apple on the day the iPad orders started.

Phew! I'll bet there'll be a lot of angry Citibank customers tomorrow. Thank you for your rapid & insightful response.

Pretty sure. I've never been much of a PALM fan myself, or a RIMM fan for that matter. Apple did a good job of sucking me in to the whole mystique of their arbitrarily opaque ecosystem. For a while anyway. That is until I peeked behind the curtain and saw shades of a skinnier, hipper version of MSFT. Of course, like MSFT it's hard for the masses to participate in a diversified mainstream fund that doesn't invest in AAPL or their supply chain in some form or another. Oh well, being tied to the fates of conglomerates isn't anything new.
Thanks for taking the time out to respond.

Sorry, but I can't empathize. My ROI over 5+ years of owning AAPL has been phenomenal. My increase in AAPL value over this time has handily paid for everything I have purchased from Apple during this period. While these are unrealized gains (I haven't cashed out), basically, I will have no net outlay for my Apple purchases.

I wish I could say the same for anything else I've invested in, including MSFT and BRK-B.

Have a great evening and good luck with the hat!

:)

This is awesome, its about time they did this. I bet pre orders will go through the roof from here on.

Got a hold on my credit card for the amount. Using Discover.

My credit card just got charged for $648 and some change. Ordered a 32 gb Wi-Fi version about an hour after orders began day 1. I also ordered the dock and the case at the same time, putting my order north of $721, so the extra amount charged today is for one or the other of those accessories.

The iPad says delivers on April 3, while the accessories each say ships by April 3

I'm excited.

Damn! My credit card hasn't been charged yet... I ordered a 64Gb 3G... within the first 30 minutes of the iPAD going on sale.... hope to be positively surprised soon!

64 gigabyte 3G ordered within the first 5 minutes of the iPAD going on sale. I do have a credit card hold (VISA.)

Mar 25, 2010 PENDING APL*APPLE ONLINE STORE ($906.43)

Apple Store still shows a late April ship date.

What are the chances 3G will arrive next week?

Is there any reason the 3G couldn't show up next week?

I ordered a 64gb 3G and my pre-authorization went through today too. Or is this some cleaver marketing trick for more noise and they will let the 3G ones fall off and then re-pre-authorize again when they get ready to ship those? Hmmmm.

I for one can't get enough iPad news :D

fighting...temptation......to....order....wifi...

This is cool for those that got 'em on order, Dang I wish it had a camera on it, then I could have justified ordering a couple of them. well rev2 maybe. But for people that don't need that functionality I'm excited for you !

Is there any reason at all to think this could actually happen?

Mine came out today too - And I ordered right away on the 12th.

64 GB 3G with the Case

Seriously does anyone think they really may be shipping? Or are we all just dreaming?

Order status still says "Not Shipped"

They may ship early, only to be held at UPS Fed Ex till the 3rd, I'm pretty sure I've seen that happen in the past.

Just dreaming. Since you have a debit card, your funds are gone immediately.

My card is being charged for the 3G model already...

are you sure you were actually charged

which I'm not particularly happy about, especially since they already did a pre-authorization for the full amount right after pre-ordering it.

given that you could have spent the money since you ordered, another pre-auth isn't that unheard of.

I ordered 2 Wi-Fi models and 2 cases on the 19th. Today got a charge on my card for the iPads only, not the full amount of the order. Also when I first placed my ordered, Apple charged $1 not the full amount as another poster said happened with them.

Sadly, Keeley Hazel could ring their doorbells and deliver the gold-plated iPads and they'd probably slam the door in her face, telling her to come back after she lost weight and got a bigger rack.

;)

Only real post worth quoting so far....

Keeley Hazel.... mmmmmmm *droolz*

it would be great if the 3Gs shipped early, but I doubt it. If they do ship early, will they be available on the 3rd in the stores, is the ???

There was an intriguing piece on NPR today about how much effort many publications have put into creating good content for the iPad. I am looking forward to seeing what publishers have developed for the iPad.

iPad, iPad, iPad...
I don't want an iPad! I want the new MacBook Pro!!!

More: Credit Card High Risk Activity Suspension

There is more to this story than revealed in the article. I'm an AAdvantage CitiCard holder with more than 1M miles (not bragging, just saying I've been around for a while and have made a lot of transactions) and my iPad purchase was suspended by the credit card company due to "high risk activity".

I received a notice from Apple that my credit card transaction wasn't accepted so I tried repeatedly to reauthorize the transaction from the apple store. I then logged into to my credit card account and noticed my account was suspended. I called them and after a bunch of security questions I had to tell them to approve the charge from the Apple Store.

Citicard doesn't do this kind of thing very often so it brings to question what did Apple do to trigger these adverse credit card events???
