In an efficient market, over time the margins that Apple could charge would fall to the cost of the most efficient store. That they, and Google etc., have been able to preserve the 30% that used to be used to subsidise console hardware indicates that there isn’t very effective competition. Are we saying that at some point the cost to run the store should be the "only" cost past on to the developer?
They can be in certain areas, like warehouses. Depends on the company though. The issue with the lawsuit is people were off the clock when they occurred.Bag searches for retail seem completely normal.
The employer can do that if they want to, as long as you are being paid for the time as mentioned earlier in the thread. If you don't like the employer's policies, don't work there. Simple.Bag searches for retail seem completely normal.
$4000?! Not too shabby!What! I just got $4000. I was expect $1000!
Yeah, people love to brag.Gee, some people are so brazen to publish how they received "undeserved" settlement money, when it's perfectly legitimate. Regardless of whether you feel you deserve such settlement claims or not, you are entitled to it because you were forced to agree to the company's invasive policies of the time (at least on paper).
It's just a bit weird to publicise in the first place that you're receiving money "illegitimately"… It's uncomfortable to read, especially in the context that the reason for the settlement money is because more than a few people were basically harassed from the bag checks.
Yeah, this was utter bs. They can't put in lockers? (I guess not since they'd look too ugly, but I figured Apple could design lockers that resemble some Mac desktop with sleek lines?). They pioneered a culture of people carrying around phones, electronics tablets, and their accessories. Some people need to bring bags for general stuff like a water bottle, snacks, medications. Women carry feminine hygiene products. Apple should've at least done the search on company time.Apple claimed that its bag searches ensured employees were not hiding stolen electronics in their personal belongings, and that employees who did not want to be subject to searches could leave their bags at home, but that argument was unsuccessful and a court ordered Apple to pay the employees for the time they had spent in bag searches.
I haven't received my payment yet, although I did get an email from Venmo stating that they were going to deposit $xx,xxx into my account, which seems to be in line with what I should be getting. I don't know if anyone else has received payment via Venmo instead of PayPal, but I guess it makes sense since PayPal owns Venmo...?Has anyone not been paid out yet? If so has anyone had success in contacting them?
I assume I filled everything out correct and should have been in the 4K bracket but it’s a little worrying that I have not heard anything or seen any payments.
I've not been paid yet either. My claim form (submitted Jan 13, 2022) shows that the payment method is PayPal. I got an "Initial Determination Notice" email on July 26, 2022 stating "If you choose to do nothing, your claim will be Approved". I did nothing other than file that claim form, so hopefully it got approved.Has anyone not been paid out yet? If so has anyone had success in contacting them?

It has. Not without some strong urging of course. But, the costs have come down (as low as 15% for under a million a year sales). Not to mention, there is a free tier. And for that, it's just the cost of the subscription (yearly) if I am not mistaken at $99 US.In an efficient market, over time the margins that Apple could charge would fall to the cost of the most efficient store. I have not tried to contact the lawyers or administrator (the Angeion Group, according to the Order Granting Motion for Final Approval of Class Action Settlement court document). But if I don't get any payment this week, I just might email them
Just to follow up, I emailed Venmo customer support and received a very prompt reply, within like 15 minutes. They said I needed to validate my email address. They sent me an email with a click through link, bla-bla-bla, and the funds INSTANTLY were transferred to my Venmo account. So payments are definitely being made via Venmo as well as PayPal.I haven't received my payment yet, although I did get an email from Venmo stating that they were going to deposit $xx,xxx into my account, which seems to be in line with what I should be getting. In any event, nothing has shown up yet. I'll give it another day or two and then try emailing Venmo support.
I really wish we would've gotten some indication that the funds were coming and maybe even the option to choose how they were received. Good luck!
In an efficient and evolving market, companies that don't continue to pad their profits sufficient to innovate go bankrupt or get broken up for scraps. See RIM/Blackberry, Nokia, Motorola, Handspring, Palm, et.al.In an efficient market, over time the margins that Apple could charge would fall to the cost of the most efficient store.
I was told back yonder that I should be eligible, but have not been paid yet.Has anyone not been paid out yet? If so has anyone had success in contacting them?

I got two emails following my claim submission. The first arrived within a week of my claim being submitted, and was titled "Claim Completed for the Cameron et al. v. Apple Inc. Settlement"; just confirmed that my claim was successfully submitted and that I had chosen to be paid via PayPal. The second arrived on July 26 and was titled "Small App Developer Assistance Fund - Initial Determination Notice". It was a long one, included the amount of my expected minimum settlement amount, and stated "If you choose to do nothing, your claim will be Approved". And I still have not been paid yet.I was told back yonder that I should be eligible, but have not been paid yet.
Edit: I have the email from them earlier in the year listing confirmation of my claim, but nothing else. Should there have been more?
I’m in the same boat. I sent them an email with claim details, etc. it takes about 10-12 days to get a response. If you hear anything let us know.Has anyone not been paid out yet? If so has anyone had success in contacting them?

You’d have to send them an email and ask them to reissue a new check. Unless they forget that people tend to move addresses and circumstances often change. $26 million should be enough to have a duty of care to their clients. They sent the check payable to my company which is already closed. When I was filling out the form, I had it go to my personal account under my name. Looks like they didn't care. Does anybody know how to cash this check?
I did, and the law firm said to email the administrator at info@smallappdeveloperassistance.com instead. After I emailed the admin, I got the same "Payments for this settlement began issuing on October 19th, 2022 for check payments" form letter response. If you haven’t gotten payment you should email Info.smallappdeveloperassistance@hbsslaw.com and let them know we don’t know what’s going on and are concerned. Maybe someone at the law firm will get on it after enough emails come in.
After sending the email they responded after 7 days. The firm said that my claim was approved and provided the total payout figure. I was also asked to fill in the W9 form on their site which I did. Next, they mention that it will be verified with my IRS records. I don’t know what happens next or how long that process takes. I’m hoping this week or next week. I will have to wait and see.More specifics here: on Reddit Developers Forum
