- Sometimes, clicking from an app to another isn't sufficient to be "active". I have to click the app through the dock or Command + Tab to truly select the app. Seems related to the first issue.
I know this issue too. But it already existed in 10.5 and is related to Carbon Apps. The app seems not to respond to any keyboard input. I'm glad, they fixed the Carbon-App-causing-System-to-automatically-logout-bug in 10.6.2 which also was caused by keyboard input (randomly). Would be nice to see a correct-activating in 10.6.3.

No problems....

I'm surprised that people are having so much trouble with 10.6.2. I haven't had any problems and that includes Safari. Safari starts right up with one click and no bounce....

I haven't hit the bug in iTunes yet (locking up) so I'm just considering myself lucky on that part. :/

They need to sort out safari. I'm fed up of the beachball and hanging. I've switched to google chrome which I'm loving.

Oh yes I forgot about the failed by-end-of-year official windows 7 support for boot camp. It would seem a sensible thing to combine that with, even if all they did was add 'or windows 7' to the blurb in the boot camp assistant app.

Also anything they could do to improve QuickTime X would be nice.

I've seen one or two SSD's with internal garbage collection, but don't remember being overwhelmed by them. Isn't it only on Samsung controllers right now? Ideally, I'm looking at either a X-25 G2 160GB, or the soon to be released Vertex2 or Crucial C300. I don't think any of them feature garbage collection. And yea, I pretty much meant TRIM support, or really any acknowledgment in OS X that SSD's are different than hard disks, even if was as simple as providing an auto update to settings, i.e. disable sudden motion sensor, spotlight, etc.

Intel X-25 series uses IGC, that's how they manage to restore their performance over time. All Vertex series use IGC as of firmware 1.3, with exception of 1.4 firmwares which comes in either TRIM firmware for W7 or IGC for Linux/Mac/Pre-W7 computers.

The experts over at Notebook Review would disagree with you.

Garbage Collection has gotten really good, but TRIM is still superior.

Looking forward to this update. Hopefully some speed improvements/Easter eggs. :p And of course, hopefully it'll clear up my few remaining bugs.

I never said TRIM is inferior to IGC or that TRIM is not worth it. What I'm saying is that without IGC, TRIM is a must to maintain the performance of the SSD. With the IGC, it's not a must, it's not important anymore. TRIM, it's nice to have it but not a requirement right now, it's something that needs to be mature enough to put into OS X. TRIM is still an evolution going on with different companies having different issues with TRIM in their SSDs. Apple will not put in TRIM until everybody is happy and it is standardized across all SSDs/OS. IGC is good enough that you don't need TRIM to maintain the performance of the SSDs. TRIM with IGC is even better too but right now, TRIM is something like Revision 1 technology, it's not ready for mass use yet.

Is this service pack 3 for SL? That's an awful lot of updates in a few months.
What? You haven't been a mac user for a while, have you? Microsoft releases multiple updates per month, service pack just makes it easy to collect all the updates into one package and release them once a year to every 2-3 years. It's also a way to make a new OS installation faster by giving users one single package to update their OS, instead of forcing them to update several years of updates via internet and constantly rebooting their computers to install updates.

Apple does the same thing by collecting all the fixes once every couple of months and release them in 10.x.x updates except for security updates, they will update them separately. Each OSX release average like 4-7 minor updates while MS averages 3 service packs for the entire lifespan of their OS.

OS 10.6.2 and Mighty Mouse

The only problems I have experienced with 10.6.2 seems to be with the mighty mouse. Sometimes the swipe/gesture functions don't work properly. Read in some other forums many others having the same issue after updating but not before. I have 2 separate units paired with 2 separate laptops with 6.2 and on both the swipe is intermittent. The rest of the mouse funtions work perfectly. When we got our first magic mouse at work the swipe worked perfectly on 10.6.1. I'm ready for it to be "magic" again in 10.6.3.

I hope they fix the wifi issue. I have a one month old Macbook pro, running 10.6.2 with all the updates and I get random disconnects while on wifi every 15-30 minutes. If the computer goes to sleep, I wake it up and I have to restart the entire computer to reconnect... I want to throw it out the window. I have no problem using PC's on the same network.

Working gr8t so far.

System Version: Mac OS X 10.6.3 (10D522)
Kernel Version: Darwin 10.3.0

I wonder if 10.6.3 will finally bring at least full OpenGL 3.0 support for DX10 GPUs? Both ATI and nVidia already provide full OpenGL 3.2 support in both Windows and Linux.

I hope they fix this:

When I use "Better Battery Life" in System Preferences > Energy Saver > Graphics, everything is fine. However, if I set that option to "Better Performance", my system just keeps crashing (rebooting on its own, freezing forever, kernel panics, and so on) regularly.

Has anyone else had this? It's super annoying as you can probably imagine, and it's an extremely "major" issue.

I have a Unibody, Late 2008 MacBook Pro 15 inch.

The update's 666 MB size certainly indicates that it's going to be evil! Whatever that means.

Your video card (9600) is probably messed up. You should take it to the support people so they can have a look.

The only real issue I have is some confusion when attaching/detaching external monitors.

In my opinion, iTunes need to be revised to speed up processing. Syncing my iPhone causes it to become unresponsive, for example. Watching a video causes it to be unresponsive. It's obviously in need of a serious overhaul and has been for a while now.

yoouuuu aarrrre nooooot alooooneeeee.... (I bet you know the song) :)

PS: is the "kernel panic" a feature in 10.6.2, as I'm enjoying it every second day?

I have had similar problems when adding content to my TimeCapsule and into iTunes and my Apple TV. It just seems a little buggy. Apple TV also does weird things when streaming, especially watching trailers. They take WAY LONGER and reload a bunch of times while watching for no reason.

Also, everyone remember that whole COMPLETELY REWRITTEN Finder and how FAST it was supposed to be? Why is it the when I start up my MacBook Pro and open the Finder the first time, it literally takes like 5-8 seconds just to load the application icons in column view??? It never had that problem before it was rewritten lol! Am I the only one??? Take a look at that Apple!

You're not alone on this one! I've also been discontent with Finder in SL - not at all faster than the one in Leopard.

A couple of other issues that need to be addressed:

- slightly jerky Expose
- occasional beachballs of death when using the HUD to quickly switch between language inputs
- going to sleep time - it takes me 15-20 secs after I close the lid for MBP to go to sleep!
- HDD head parking too often, hence I need HDAPM installed
