This is a test! Everybody buy one! If they sell well, they’ll decide to resurrect the smaller form factor! Go! Let’s do this!

They also may figure now that everybody keeps their phones for 2 or 3 years that it may be better to hold off now that a bunch of people bought small phones. lol

I really don't understand why Apple would not want to have an SE or a phone similar to an SE in their line up just to entice people into the Apple system. Who knows they may start buying all the other apple products.
I agree that it would be nice for them to include it in their line up, but I think the reason why it isn't comes down to profits.

This is just a guess, but I think that Apple considers every SE sold in the US is a loss of a sale on a more expensive model.

I would bet the SE has less profit margin than the more expensive models, so Apple might feel like SE sales would cannibalize their devices that make them $.

When the SE launched, it had most of the same internals as Apple's flagship phone at the time, but it was a few hundred dollars cheaper. It was a nice way for people to use a fast and current iPhone, without paying multiple car payments for it.

Those day might be over.

I grabbed a 128. Been clinging to my 5s 32gb. Only thing that was bothering me was storage. The SE should satisfy me for the next 4 years. I hate the bigger phones.

Apple really has the weirdest strategy now (if they even have one). Often times seems unorganized or perhaps naive of what their customer base actually wants. Do I need a dongle to use this phone with my MacBook Pro? Yep.

Oh, they must have hired some folks from that little company in Redmond. :p

So strange. There must have been hundreds of channels they could have used to offload these phones without making Apple look bad.
Which could mean it's also a marketing test. I don't see Apple selling $250 phones regularly, but they probably don't want to cede the budget market entirely to Android, particularly since it looks like emerging market like China and India aren't easy paths to revenue growth.

No, since you aren't required to connect an iPhone to a Mac or PC to activate it anymore. Apple does sell a USB-C to Lightning cable, and also authorized third parties to do so, if you do want to connect an iPhone to a Mac. My guess is that they have kept shipping iPhones with the 5W charger and USB-A cable to keep costs to a minimum.

So does the fact that they’re sold out mean Apple was just clearing inventory, and they won’t be sold again, or will they be back in stock when more stock is made?

I disagree that is the sole reason. Many like the SE for the design and size too.
For my household of three it is DESIGN + COST. If they sold an SE sized $800 phone we wouldn't buy it. If they sold a $400 SE Max we wouldn't buy it. Personally I want a stand alone watch, screw the phone. I have a desktop and iPad 12.9.

I hope they'll be cowardly and leave the headphone jack on this phone! I can make this a spare to rotate with my 6S+. As I've stated before, I just want Apple to continue making a touch id phone with a headphone jack. If they'd add some nice DAC's as per the V20/30/40 LG line, they'd get me back as an iPhone customer.

Does anyone know how trade in works for this phone? I want to trade in my 6S for the SE
Curious - why? How would you find the SE to be superior to the 6S? I'd like to have an SE as a spare to alternate with my 6S+ when I want a smaller phone, but wouldn't feel the same if I had a 6S.

Basically no.... LTE will not be going any where for a very long time.

5G coverage won't be wide spread for many years, and do to the type of technology, may never be as widespread as LTE.

When 5G phones start becoming the norm, most people will still be using LTE with their 5G capable phones.
I agree, and it will also be quite a while before a decent 5G infrastructure/coverage will be available. Initial offerings will likely be costly as well.

Apple should hire You, I need navigation and text and phone and safari. That’s it, iphone classic is what I want!

Thanks. Having applied many times a few years ago, they won't even hire me for Retail Staff. So I pretty much gave up.

I bought one.. who still makes decent cases for this phone? Having trouble finding one that is still being manufactured.

[...] I actually think if they stuffed the A11 processor, upgraded camera, added an upgraded display to wide gamut, they could sell this thing fro $400-$450 all day.

Shoot at that price, I'm nearly tempted to pick up a 128GB.

I'd abandon my 6S in a heartbeat for that phone. This year for an SE2? I can dream.

The prices were too low for a test run. Not enough profit in those prices after warranty repair costs are taken into account. Apple was simply clearing out excess stock, possibly because carriers who were still selling them weren’t selling many. Apple has to give wholesale pricing to carriers, and the carriers may have said “no thanks”, allowing Apple to sell them directly at “wholesale+” pricing.

In other words, the fact they put them on clearance (I’ve never seen Apple do that) could mean demand is weak for a 3 year old small phone. Not the other way around.

I enjoy my iPhone SE 32GB a lot. Small and works fine. I really don't care about phones. If I need to do something complex, I'll use my laptop.

This may have been phones left unsold and returned by carriers at the end of the year when they stopped promoting them. The quick sell out may prompt Apple to reconsider the making of a smaller phone for the group that prefers them.

They didn’t continue them because of diminished sales, but the battery replacements may have had a larger impact on the sale of these than they realized.

I noticed this a long time ago.

Talking to ppl I know, it seems to be common to have a really high cell phone bill, although, people seem to be fine with it.

As for cable/isp bills, I did a local poll a while back asking what people pay for their cable/isp bills. IIRC, over 20% of the ppl responded payed over $200 a month, and 80% over $130.

People pay for services that they would hardly ever or never use too. Many people responded that they were getting Gigabit internet, but used it for basic web browsing and Netflix.

As for cell phone bills, I think we are all getting ripped off in the US.

It's why I switched to Cricket. I pay $45 a month, have unlimited data, and aside from some spots (LA beaches) I have as good of a signal as any of my friends (Verizon and AT&T). They pay closer to $130. I also buy my devices outright, and will continue to. (have an iPhone 6S+, next year's iPhone XR will be what I likely upgrade to). I'm saving thousands of dollars over them, and have the same exact experience.

You can still get OtterBox SE cases on eBay for a lot cheaper than they sold for a few years ago. I just ordered one last night after I bot an SE.
