The weird thing is that while screen sizes keep increasing, information density actually decreases. I mean, of course you need a huge screen when this is what your UI looks like:

There is something to be said for a little more information density... and if you aren't married to "authentically digital" design, the UI also becomes way easier to parse visually without needing huge amounts of white space.

AMEN!

Today’s space wasting apps/iOS/websites are truly awful!

I can def see from a design point where you guys are coming from-and presume to maybe going with dual layouts for one below 1080, and another above? Just a thought since that one of the reasons i prefer the smaller screened UI.

The SE would be perfect if had slightly higher native resolution and a little more information density. If Apple doesn’t have a redesigned iPhone 8 in a full screen configuration in a smaller SE-sized case, then they’re probably missing an opportunity.

At first I was indifferent but with time passing I saw its potential along with its modest price and good old form-factor including the stereo jack. Alas, when I collected myself it was unavailable where I live nether in electronics retail nor even online store. I don't want main line iPhones and I feel my best bet will be eBay. That's unfortunate.

What do folks think about the value of a brand new iPhone 6S for $200 or a 7 for $300? They have 32GB of storage, which works for me since I am still able to easily get by with a 16GB iPhone 5S.

I got the 7 and I love it. Upgraded from 6s that I had since launch day and hope to have it at as long as it works. One the last days of apple care I will replace the battery and voila.

Mostly likely explanation is that these are phones that went through the refurb process for one reason or another (warranty repairs/replacements and customer returns). This happened with the Mini for a couple of years after the 2012 Mini had been discontinued.
Nope. They were brand new. Not allowed to sell refurb or even open box as new. Glad they flew off the shelves too. Maybe someone in Cupertino noticed.

Got a shipping confirmation!

Surprised I was able to cop despite having been several hours late after stock went live.

As of lately, I don't care about latest iPhone anymore. I can't justify the price of the newest iPhone with slightest improvements. As long as I'm able to use all Apple's core services with ease and comfort (no excessive slowdown) then it's a good phone

We have reach to the point where the CPU is fast enough, the camera is good enough and 99% of features that's also available in older models. If I have to flush $1K on a new iPhone, it better be drastic improvements. Drastic as in 5G cellular, full eSIM and 18watts of wireless charging.

I'm still waving around my trusty 7Plus and for daily use I cannot spot any difference between my phone and XS, except my phone still has better battery life. I still love TouchID, still good looking display and I can still enjoy the ecosystem. I miss wireless charging, but I could still handle plugging my phone once or twice a day. Not a big deal at all.

It's a good thing that SE reemerges. It means Apple is planning to support A9 chips (and newer) for quite some time. Maybe until iOS 13 or 14? Still a good life support, considering.

Did someone just find a few boxes of iPhone SEs behind somebody's desk or something? Why does this feel like an inventory problem? lol
They were still actively selling the SE in India. My guess is that they had lots of overstock and realized it would be quicker to sell it here than there.

Desperate times... No, actually, it's still a great little phone. Now they need to take the XR design, shrink it down to around the SE size, and watch how many people buy it. I'm not a small phone person but I think there's a big enough market to justify an SE2. I actually think if they stuffed the A11 processor, upgraded camera, added an upgraded display to wide gamut, they could sell this thing fro $400-$450 all day.

Shoot at that price, I'm nearly tempted to pick up a 128GB.

If they made a new, small SE with the current design (so larger screen than previous version) it would be what many hoped the X would be - a best of both worlds rather than just another larger phone. I'm sure they'd have no problem selling it at $6-800, I think I only know one person with an X, everyone else holding on to 5's, SE's, 6's and 7's because they don't want to go larger so don't see the point in spending £1000 for something they don't REALLY want.

Well, so it sold out that fast...should tell Apple something!

Forget an SE 2 - just make a 4.7” XR mini! If you had the same bezel size, the chassis would be in principle exactly the same size as the SE chassis. 1351x640 resolution would make it an exact 19.5x9 version of the SE screen as well, at the same PPI as the SE and the XR.

Same specs as the XR otherwise and make it marginally cheaper in line with Apple’s pricing methodology linked to screen size.

DO IT!!

Now everyone with hands the size of a 5 year old can rejoice!

Nothing to do with that, the usual condescension toward those who prefer smaller phones - I have fairly big hands, I hate having to use a phone two-handed or having it uncomfortably sitting in my pocket so I prefer the ease of a smaller one. I have an iPad if I want a big screen on a portable device.

please dont bother this ui-expert with facts, haha ... i was nearly lol when reading his comment. the only reason, why we have larger screens is because, its their sales strategy, to increase screen size and to take more money. as you said the screen is only used for huge fonts

Four months after Apple stopped selling the iPhone SE, the beloved device has made a sudden return to Apple's online store.

iphone-se-unlocked-800x507.jpg

Apple is offering the iPhone SE with 32GB of storage for $249 and with 128GB of storage for $299 on its clearance store in the United States. These are brand new, unopened, and unlocked models with unchanged tech specs, including a 4-inch Retina display, A9 chip, Touch ID, and 12-megapixel rear camera.

Prior to being pulled, the iPhone SE was available with 32GB and 128GB of storage for $349 and $449 respectively, so Apple is offering $100 to $150 off. The device was originally released in March 2016 and was popular among fans of smaller smartphones and those who preferred the iPhone 5-like design.

It's unclear why Apple is selling the iPhone SE again, but it would appear to be clearing out stock. The iPhone SE remains on sale at select authorized resellers, as reflected on Apple's compare iPhone models page when the iPhone SE is selected.

Of course, with Apple recently lowering its revenue guidance for the quarter just ended due to fewer iPhone upgrades than it anticipated, speculation will certainly mount that Apple is doing everything it can to boost iPhone sales.

While many customers have hoped for a so-called iPhone SE 2, with some rumors suggesting one was in the works, oft-accurate Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo cast doubt on the possibility of a new iPhone SE last year. And in July of last year, one research firm said Apple abandoned its plans for a new iPhone SE.

Apple is offering the iPhone SE in Silver, Space Gray, Gold, and Rose Gold, with delivery or in-store pickup available by next week.

As of now, this appears to be U.S. only.

Update: iPhone SE stock is sold out as of Sunday morning.

[doublepost=1548063229][/doublepost]I vaguely remember when Samsung is going for big screen and Steve was showing us that with this small format you can reach the whole screen with one hand and your thumb, correct me if I am wrong. Everyone is heading for bigger, heavier and clunkier, it is time to go back to this size.

With the current technology, the SE size will be perfect if it is full screen. In terms of physical dimension it fit nicely in your pocket and not too heavy.

I am an ardent fans of Apple products but for the iPhone I have not updated it to the latest because of the Size since the start of iPhone 6 format.

The iPhone XR is a mistake. It is like let’s make something cheaper for those who do not want to shelf out so much for the best.

With the SE selling out it goes to show that there is a great demand for this product. It could be the format or it could be the price point. I think if you want to have a better profit margin. It is better to raise the price of this product a bit to accommodate a bigger screen.

Getting the iPhone XR is like telling people you can’t afford the premium product.

Is it telling that I own a maxed out CTO 2.5 GHz 17” MacBook Pro (my personal “unicorn” Mac) and I ordered one of this batch of Space Gray 128GB iPhone SE phones as soon as I saw the article?

Counterpoint-I do have a 256GB iPhone Xr and love it. The battery life alone is amazing.

Well, it shows that you are not one of the complainers who complain because they love complaining, but someone who sees a bargain and buys it if it suits them.
