Sorry, maybe I'm being dense, but again, where is it "cited" that Apple used the word 'discontinued'? Like I said, I know MacRumors said so, where did Apple say so? I'm happy for you to prove me wrong.

I know it doesn't really matter, but Apple themselves still claimed the SE was "Available at authorised resellers" (and still do at: apple.com/iphone/compare if you select iPhone SE) even after the date of that article you linked to.
I updated today's article to reflect this FYI. Thanks!

Wait for it - in month or so the SE 2 is going to be released in some form better than SE, but only slightly. Not OLED, but A12 with a camera bump!

This is just clearing all remaining stock of the SE before the SE 2 can be announced. Great price.

This means Apple will support its 64-bit iPhones (5S onwards) a little longer, I guess. Another good news.

But for consuming media and sending messages the SE is horrible to use compared to a Plus screen.

Media consumption junkies are on $250 Honors with 6.5" screens, market Apple missed out on that big time. Should have gave away 6s Plus for $400 off contract to have any chance of scoring with these kind of people so they could trade in the future but that's another topic.

One of the biggest screen misconceptions is that you need a big screen for messaging when you actually don't. It's a tricky feeling that you would feel more in loop if there are more messages show on screen so you could stay on topic or something. But that part is not true. Since very few but none of the OEM IM apps can't separate chats in different topics by same recipient your chat history is most likely just a scatter of all sorts of topics and what not. What matters is last four to five messages both sent and received and that's about it.

Desperate times... No, actually, it's still a great little phone. Now they need to take the XR design, shrink it down to around the SE size, and watch how many people buy it. I'm not a small phone person but I think there's a big enough market to justify an SE2. I actually think if they stuffed the A11 processor, upgraded camera, added an upgraded display to wide gamut, they could sell this thing fro $400-$450 all day.

Shoot at that price, I'm nearly tempted to pick up a 128GB.

Totally agree. XR is freaking HUGE and HEAVY. I'm still using my 6, which is the perfect size for me. I was shocked at the enormity of the XR in comparison, too big and heavy for my pocket. I'd far prefer the SE format to these new behemoths.

I went from a iPhone 6s Plus to the SE due to me misjudging how much I would like a larger screen. The 6s Plus was just too be for me and impossible to use one handed.

I also didn't care for 3D Touch and found it to be annoying, especially during one-handed use.

You do realise that you can turn 3d touch off. You should have just gone a 6s,..ots just the right size.

I’d love to see a tear down to see the date on the batteries inside. They should be new.

So... did Apple have a special production run of them or are these returned old stock that had batteries replaced. They are still new, regardless.

This is dirt cheap. It will piss off those selling SEs to upgrade to something else since I can’t see anyone paying more than $100-150 for a used one now. Maybe that’s the best news to come from this move. Perfectly capable iPhones for under $200.

Pricing aside, I like this decision to bring back the SE for sale. Plenty of people don't want the 4.7", 5.5", 5.8", or 6.5" offerings Apple provides right now.

Former SE user myself. Plenty of oomph in the little guy at the time. A 2019 SE refresh w/ an A11 processor, 3gb RAM, iPhone XR camera, FaceID, and minimal bezels for $400-$450 would be a helluva seller.

Imagine the screen could stretch out to about 4.7" in a 4" form factor the SE provides? Form factor matters more than the screen sizes, especially if minimal bezels can compensate.

We need a new small phone to replace the SE, once my fiancé's SE dies he will be completely out of luck on getting a new phone.

The iPhone 8 is really not big. Fits easily in a man’s front pocket. Most men, even those with smaller hands, should still be able to use it with one hand.

That’s the one I would get before they’re gone forever. They will most likely be discontinued September 2020. They’ll also get another $100 price drop this September.

As long as the batteries don't dip below 20%, you should be fine and it shouldn't go into deep discharge.

It sounds like a good deal just for the iPod Touch functions. This iPhone SE comes without a SIM card. Looking into it, it sounds like you would either have to already have an iPhone with a SIM card or borrow someone’s SIM card to activate it.

Tracfone has been and is still offering the iPhone SE, iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus with their prepay plans. But only with the 32GB option.

If you mean that Apple currently sells, I agree. For the price, you could get iPhones for a large family for the price of one Xs Max.

It was my second favorite out of the following I owned: Original, 4s, 5s, 6s Plus, SE. The 4s was my favorite.

You preferred an even smaller screen than the SE? Other than that, those phones are identical (other than SE being faster).

I still have my SE, and do find it very small next to my XR, but it still performs well. No sluggishness at all. My idea phone would be an SE2 with the XR screen design.

RE: "It's unclear why Apple is selling the iPhone SE again,"

NO, it's NOT !

Cook & his entire team are fighting for their jobs !

Cook OVER-played AAPL's hand when they moved the iPhone product line so Upscale ... now, they are trying to correct that Mistake as best as possible.

Cook can blame it on China, but name another company on this planet that has moved their product line so Upscale (in such a short timer period), & been successful ... I'm UN-aware of any.

A 5" version of the 7+/8+, with an A12 & 4 GB of DRAM & priced right, say $649 USD, would correct the Ship.

Unless / Until that happens, AAPL is Doomed under Cook !

Hardware Home Button + Touch ID is a FAR superior feature set than FaceID ! ... and considering FaceID is much more expensive to implement, it should have been a NO brainier for Cook to continue to offer updated 7+/8+-like iPhones with "value" pricing.

The fact that AAPL is now offering new SE units starting @ $249 says ALOT about the State of the R&D Pipeline @ AAPL.

Why was there NO contingency plan for this year's models Failing ???

That's simple ... because Cook believed his own Hype !

The UP-sell strategy worked for one year, & one year ONLY, the SUPER-Hyped 10-year anniversary model.

BTW, a buddy of mine was able to get one of the new iPhone X units that we're offered by the carriers here in the States during the extended Thanksgiving weekend ... for, get this, $499 USD ! ... those units went fast, & that deal ONLY lasted for a few days or weeks ... those were the units that AAPL pulled off the shelf on Sept 11th ... actually, it was @ the carriers, when they were ordered too top stop selling them on Sept 11th.

The newly-available SE units "may" experience the same thing ... available ONLY till supplies are gone.

I would guess "NO," though ... Cook & his team are now under ALOT more pressure to produce than around Thanksgiving.

Cook was NEVER the long term answer @ CEO ... the world is now witnessing it.

haha despertate times call for desperatures meassures, tim has to try to made up for the losses due to the poor sales, don’t get confused my dear fellas, tim is not doing this to give you what you want or what you aked for, he is simply doing this because he needs to make for the losses, tim you should it have never discontinue the iphones SE, not everybody likes big phones the same way not everybody likes small phones, so is good to have variety

Interesting - so is the SE still being produced and sold through third parties as was the case with the 6 until recently? That’s some good news for fans of the form factor at least...

Once they clear all of their iPhone SE inventory, I hope they do the same for the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus and X. I'm sure they have many of those lying around. It should boost iPhone sales fairly quickly.

Does "unlocked" mean any carrier? I can just swap the Verizon SIM from my 5s right?

is the iPhone SE still being assembled in India? or did assembly stop some time ago?

related question: what iPhone is currently being assembled in India (in order to comply with India's requirements for locally made)? iPhone 6s? 7?
