I think you are just jealous. People can spend money on whatever they want and for some people $17K is nothing but for others it's a lot.

I work in Banking and Finance, and I can tell you that for some people in my office $17K is less than a day's salary.

Whoop de doo, flash Harry... and we all know who's robbed for this "salary" - that's something a normal person wouldn't be bragging about.

Earthly riches will burn up and pass away in fire, they can NEVER satisfy. Nice things are okay, as long as we don't let them consume us.

Apart from that, Apple watch is a big bag of MEH, anyway... gold or otherwise... MEEEH.

STAHP. You'll make me feel bad for the £599 I'm about to be charged for mine! I NEED DISS I'M SURE OF IT

Wow... I feel for you, but hey - if you have doubts, I am not in a place to tell you what to do.

Apple online PR/marketing employees are having to work overtime on this one. Surprising just how many there are on forums.

It's not bragging, and you have missed my point.

My point is that worth is relative and people can spend their money on whatever they like. To call someone out and say that something is dumb or a waste of money is non sensical. As long as that person gets value from their purchase then that is all that is important.

What value is their in criticising someone else for what they like and what they choose to spend their money on?

If you don't think that there is value in a purchase, then don't buy it, but there is no need to criticise others for having a different opinion.

Charging it now.

Does anyone know what font Apple uses in their messages? I wanna photoshop my name onto it and impress people

It is ridiculous that it bothers people that apple created a 10,000-17,000$ watch. Laughing at it and stating the obvious such as the fact it will be obsolete in a few years.

What people do not know is what the life cycle of the apple watch will be. I am confident it will not be as frequent or significant as other products. Meaning I do not believe it will be updated every year for a completely new model. What I think will happen is there will be new bands/colors etc.

There are many people with the money for something in this price range, and just because it is not you does not make it a foolish product.

Is it worth it? I don't believe so and not because of the price, but rather what you get with it.

If the Edition came with the 3 years of applecare+, better standard band options made out of gold, (not a sport band) such as a gold link bracelet and a sports band in the box then it would be more realistic.

It makes apple look foolish, and while I have a love/hate relationship with it, they maybe should have waited until the next generation or made it a more exclusive product.

17k for a Made in China watch

People are right about saying not tell someone how to spend there money but this guy is right 17k for a China watch is crazy. You were better off buying a Rolex that will last over 100 years. From what everyone says the gold in that watch is worth up to 600 dollars. You should get it tested and see how many grams of gold are really in it for everyone to know,

No dumber than what a homeless person would think about you or I spending $750 for a SS Apple Watch. Its all relative. If I made $50M a year, spending $16K for a watch is actually a WHOLE LOT less than me spending $750 with my income....

That’s not quite the end of it. Do you get an extra £15,250 worth of product?

Just because you can afford something doesn’t mean you’re not wasting your money and/or being ripped off.

He should.

Back when he owned Blancpain, Jean-Claude Biver would hand deliver a Blancpain minute repeater to the customer that bought it.

I agree with you, the should have waited to introduces the edition models and make it more exclusives :) the box/charger stand should be standard with the watch imo.

Everything you say is either very wrong or quite wrong.

1- A rolex won't last 100 years without a 400-600 USD service every 5-10 years
2- A gold sport rolex is well over 17k. Better try at 30k and more.
3- An ounce of gold is worth 1204,90 USD, 18k gold means 3/4 pure gold in weight. It's obvious that it can't weight about 1/2 oz
4- Last but not least, YOU DON'T BUY LUXURY BECAUSE IT'S COST EFFECTIVE. That's why it's called luxury in the first place.

That being said, I understand why someone would buy a gold apple watch: because he can and he wants. Then there would be people who can and don't want, others that can't and don't want, and others that can't and want.

You're welcome.

1: An Apple watch won't last 5-10 years because a) battery will be dead (okay you can replace that, but apple will eventually stop making the batteries for it) and b) in 5-10 years time it will be unsupported on whatever iOS is current at that time. iPhone 4 is not even 5 years old yet didn't get iOS 8. So in 5 years time, Apple Watch probably won't be supported due to software.

At least with a rolex, the $600 every 5-10 years is a hell of a lot cheaper than $15k every 5-10 years for a new Apple Watch.

2: You can get a gold rolex for under $15k. The models that are >$30K have the gold bracelet as well, which the Apple watch does not have.

3: Do you honestly believe that's what Apple pays that much for the gold? They'll have a contract with a supplier to provide x amount, and the ounce price will be cheaper than that.

4: A made in china, factory produced computer with a strap is not a luxury item. A hand assembled Swiss watch, assembled by one single person is a luxury item.

A gold apple watch will cost a hell of a lot less to manufacture than a Rolex. Labour cost alone will be a fraction because it's made in a factory in china by people earning $1 a day.

Share impressions? It's the same watch only gold. What sharing are you referring to?

Edition owners sharing impressions is just as valid as the frequent posts we see regarding the regular Sport or SS versions. There is nothing wrong with being curious to hear their impressions. Yet the mere mention of the Edition seems to offend some, thus making it likely that the tiny minority here who purchase them, would be put off sharing and contributing.

I understand what was the hold up in shipments of the Gold editions was the packaging. It was really tough to get the rose gold color match on the Gold-threaded douchebag the watch is packaged in.

The price I posted for the gold is the commodities market price, so it's the price floor.

The cheapest gold rolex, with a rubber band -well, not rubber but oysterflex-, is the new rose gold yacht master, 18k, and its price starts at 21 000 CHF for the smaller model.

Aren't f10 serie 5 BMW luxury cars? and what about Prada? You could argue a 5 BMW is not a high end luxury car, but then again a 10k USD watch is mid range luxury. High end luxury is more expensive.

Apple Begins Shipping Gold Edition Watches to Early Pre-Order Customers

If most processing power happens in the phone, and you get a new phone every 1-2 years I don't see why the watch can't last 10 yrs

Because Apple will MAKE SURE that it doesn't run WatchOSx when it suits them. At that point it will cease to be compatible with iPhone Y and/or iTunes Z.
Count on it!

You've failed to address point 1 which is the most important factor here.

Don't know where you get your prices from but the Oyster Perpetuals gold case + stainless steel & gold bracelet Rolex are around US$10K.

I wouldn't call a BMW a luxury car. Do you associate gold watches with BMW drivers? I wouldn't. Bentley maybe, BMW no.
