I used to own the one pictured. It has got horrible color and viewing angles. It gets all washed out unless you are straight on when looking at it.
Hi
Which is the model number of the one in the picture so I can avoid?
Thanks

At least the desktop picture is still available. And with some aluminium duct tape or spray... (and vintage Apple sticker ;-)

I don't really get all the people saying it looks ugly.. it's not that bad, just different. :) Would fit fine with the little MacPro.

I've followed Apple for 18 years, and I know one thing, Steve would have never done this.
This needs to end. Who are you to make such a damning statement. You don't know diddly. Perhaps you are just upset there isn't an Apple logo on the front. If you don't want one, don't buy one, otherwise stop spouting the same old tired line many feel they are qualified to judge.

It shows that it is all about the $ now completely. At apple, does anyone use and external monitor? Would these monitors line up Apples "all Apple" type of ecosystem, especially in their Campus? Apple use to be into the "look" of things and everything being in synergy. They made apple brand mouses, keyboards etc. just so everything is in synergy for the inclusive experience. They use to make the products for themselves (or at least that is what they use to say).

Jony is all about design over form which is ok (that is what he prefers). Because they cannot get their margins on a monitor they stop making a monitor?, that sounds more like a company that is solely "bean counting" which now the New Apple (its ok I guess - it made them where they are today). Again, like I have said before, if a company's vision is that, it is ok (as most have to be to stay in business) but apple does not need to operate now like this.

It shows that management does not use their products much besides for just photos of their grandkids, surfing the internet and "bean counting" spread sheets (probably now use Excel). I suspect that they only use an iPhone and the the new underpowered MacBook because that is all they need. I would love to know what tech gear they actually now use personally.

When Steve Jobs worked with Pixar the Mac Pro was important...why? because he was hanging around those that do creative stuff and wanted them to use Apple stuff. When watching "Toy Story" being created, he probably hated to watch it on a windows XP machine or a Dell or Samsung (ugly at the time) monitor. The Cinema Display was born with the all black edge, giving it a "Cinema feel"...thus the name. With an Apple silver on Black logo on the bottom middle while "His" collaborated movie creation seen above. A beautiful thing... (My thoughts of course). I own the expensive thunderbolt monitor and before the Cinema monitor also.

Now...ugly experience...

The Mac Pro and the Mini excelled when Jobs was around because....he hung around creative content developers who said, This is what we need to do your dreams Steve (i.e. animation stuff). So..Mac Pro had to be a power house to process animation and video...and a Apple monitor to be seen on so it did not drive jobs crazy seeing his creation on nothing less...

Now...sigh....

spot o my friend. in particular when you illustrate the link between user, needs and benefits. and that's the missing link we have today with Apple: it is self-referred and detached from the pro-/user-community who creates great stuff.

There might be a shift to medical and fitness, since they want to enter these markets. But why throw away and get upset he greatly involved user base that you have already? Why they don't want to be a trendsetter in the creative community, as they used to do, is beyond me. Why let the Pro just linger like that? Why not selling the iMac without computing part as display? They have all this talent and passion and resources...

Promoting this ugly POS is the best indicator that something is wrong with Apple.

Come on, it looks like this display is standing on its head.

looks like a regular display, something thats ugly is the old apple displays..
but i agree with the 5K version atleast, because of different bezel size on top it looks ugly. but this 4k version is fine

I find the comments regarding aesthetics, quality and price interesting. Especially by members who constantly contradict themselves in previous posts. For example, point out how they expect Apple to be the premium product and technology leader for professionals, then say how they could build their own computer for 1/2 the price.

I belong to a Italian motorcycle forum. If you exchanged the name of the motorcycle and replaced it with Apple, the complaints (aesthetics, quality, price) would be indistinguishable. The level of vanity is unbelievable. The vane expect something that is so pleasing to the eye, they can use it as the sole reason to invite a guest to their home. In addition, the constant references to being the "Ferrari" of motorcycles makes me laugh because I know the person has never owned one. If they did, they would know the amount of constant care (service shop), sky-high prices of parts, and length of time to acquire said part require the patience of the Dalai Lama.

Should Apple stop making Cinema Displays, I will miss them. And if they release a new monitor, I will gladly pay the Apple premium price. Definitely want to take advantage of AppleCare. I still have an original 30" Cinema Display, with no dead pixels.

I love Apple and the products they produce. I don't need them to be first-to-release. Thankfully, Apple takes their time and releases a product when it is done and works as intended.

All that talent and resources, and yet still they don't agree with you. Shocking.

I'd also call the 4 all purpose USB-C pretty trendsetting.

If the pro's are so left lingering, how come the new MacBook sold so well?

Are you a pro user?

I dont understand their design choice, it looks like minimal effort went in to making it look cool. Yes its just a monitor but its always nice to have something looking cool on your desktop.

I dont know why they didnt make something similar like the LG Ultra Wide 34UM95 - http://www.unboxfresh.com/computing/lg34um95-lg34um88-unboxing-review-macpro/

That is far more cool looking apart from the stupid one button which is form over function and its quite low - you'd need a bid book or stand it on a aluminium g raid.

As for the temporary price drop, maybe they want to clear out the stock before they release the real aluminium models.

First off, in order to avoid misunderstandings, please read my posts in terms of "I am wondering ... " and not "oh, I expect Apple to do this, because I know better... ".

I do not consider myself as pro: I am a road warrior (and really struggling with all the dongles and stuff) and bridge program & project management, healthcare, engineering and marketing. While the engineers I know, don't even consider Apple as an option due to WIN-specific software they use, healthcare professionals, executives and marketing/graphic/audio-visual pros are fond of Apple products, everyone for his/her own reasons. The biggest outcries I hear is from the latter group: they do not understand the new Apple. They feel left out, not considered, not catered to: An Apple that is not-aligned to their needs. The words of @loby express it best.
And mind you, that is my experience and what I hear and I am perfectly aware that it does not represent everyones view.

And yes, I am really surprised to read that the new MBP has sold exceptionally well and, thus, very curious why the MBP has sold so well and what user / target group has picked up the machine.

Have a nice day. :)

I love LG probably I will buy one next year.
[doublepost=1478946393][/doublepost]They a
With such cutting edge tech, such as "USB 2, 480 Mbps", serving you well since April, 2000.

What a joke.
They are fine for Keyboard and mouse, sure I will think FW, Eth, USB3 would be a better choice for this display but you can buy adapters on internet verycheap like usb-c with 1x SDXC 1x HDMI 4K 1x USB-C 3x USB-A for 50$

While almost every PC vendor mimics Apple design, LG decided not to do so this time.
We already have Windows machines which are Mac lookalikes and now we have Macs which look like Windows PC-s.

There are 4k monitors on Amazon for $400, is there any reason this is $1000?
