If a build so lacking that people on a forum can find bugs in truly is GM then I am utterly disgusted. Disgusted that the state of software releases, and specialy OS relases have degenerated so much that farting one out with a, hey we'll patch it later, mentality is in the realm of the acceptable.

It truly is pathetic, I bought Leopard at launch and it had its fair of serious issues even after the few first patches.

With Leopard 10.5.0 I had some issues, too, but with the current version of Snow Leopard 10A432 I have not even one bug! It's working very good for me, maybe for some other users it doesn't.

Try to repair your permissions with the disk utility.

And by the way: if Apple will really launch Snow Leopard on 28th August '09, they have to announce it today (21st August)... if they don't, we don't have to expect a launch until September.

Wow that launch date is creeping up fast! Better get the computer ready for the clean install, hope there are genuine performance improvements.

You have no idea what you're talking about. No software is bug-free beyond 1000 lines, and to get that good you need a five-year development cycle like IBM did with their mainframes thirty years ago, and algorithm provers (which still only prove that your program does what your parameters say it should--whether the parameters are correct is a totally separate question).

There will always be bugs. It is a fact of anything created by humans. If you don't like it, I suggest becoming a lumberjack. In Yukon Territory. With a handsaw.

28th would be sweet as I'm on leave from work that week and I should get it on the day as i've preordered via the up-to-date program... Gives me all weekend to try it out :) I think if they don't announce this Friday it won't happen... Just my opinion. Fingers crossed! ;)

I bet it will be sep. 1 its even a tuesday!

Don't forget

If you do check out Macenstein site, don't forget to see the "Mac chick of the month", heck its better than seeing that ex Zune guy. :p

Lol, a friend of mine pointed that out as well. He said 'combining the pleasant things with the pleasant things'. I don't know how you say it correctly in English, but it's a common used Dutch saying, although he changed it a little for this particular occasion.

plus you have the whole VAT thing, included in our prices, not in US

We get it at 21.5% in Ireland, so god only knows what SL will cost.

If it were to retail for €30 for leopard users then that would put the actual cost at around €25 or around $35

So assuming this is correct...will those of us that have a newer machine have to wait for the new OS to ship out (end of Sept) or will it be available via a download?

No, once the OS is officially available to the public, each new Mac will come with a copy of Snow Leopard that has been slipped into the box. It will NOT be pre-installed on Macs until they've run out of stock of their current laptops.

If you want to have Snow Leopard pre-installed on your Mac, I'd say wait 1-2 weeks for Apple stores to be clear of stock from Leopard pre-installed Macs (though, to be honest, it really shouldn't take that long if your local Apple Store has pretty decent sales).

I can not stress how badly I am in need of 10.6. I have 3 projects on hold waiting for the upgrade. It's going to be great to finally feel what my computer can do.

So does this mean that when Mac OS X Snow Leopard does come out will it come with every new mac that someone buys like the apple site says

Has anyone considered the possibility that the fact that the DVD app and iTunes 8 were not rewritten to 64 bit yet and that the rumors saying iTunes 9 will have DVD and Blu-Ray support and probably 64 bit will make Itunes 9 the new DVD app for snow leopard?

I think it can happen, and if there will be an Apple Music Event in the next 15 days or so to introduce iTunes 9 among other cool stuff it is pretty hard that Snow Leopard will hit the stores before that time, they would probably want to ship it with iTunes 9 and no 32 bit DVD app nor itunes 8.

I would call Sept 18 the release date for Snow Leopard with iTunes 9 being the default DVD app and completely rewritten to 64 bit.

I agree about the launch - there better be something on August 21. However, remember that they're on Pacific Time (GMT -8) and so their normal launch time doesn't come until later for everyone east of them. Their normal press release time is 10:00 AM PT, which is 1:00 PM ET (for you Eastern USA-ers like myself) or 6:00 PM BT (for those of you in the UK).

with no announcement yet I doubt next week launch. My guess is 9-18

I would say Aug 28th at the earliest 28-7th i reackon
Apple Authorized Service providers have not been given SL training material via GSX as of yet.

Risky business....

I can not stress how badly I am in need of 10.6. I have 3 projects on hold waiting for the upgrade. It's going to be great to finally feel what my computer can do.

Most people, I think, would want to get the projects out of the way before experimenting with a new operating system.

What if for some reason 10.6 doesn't work right, or even hoses your system?

i'll wait until at least 10.6.3, not apple's guinea pig. but good luck to rest you lining up for the first day.

That would be expensive for Apple. They would have to pay royalties for DVD and Blu-ray support for every copy of iTunes downloaded. It's not really a feasible option.

Blu-ray playback software is upwards of $70+ on Windows alone.

Huh?

Someone posted a list with things wrong with 10A432. One thing that stood out is not preferences for QuickTime X. Oh & 64-Bit extensions missing completely. It just seems incomplete. Like 2 builds away from a real GM :( I mean, it's usable, it just seems incomplete. Small things missing/ not 100% functional that Apple really wouldn't let slip by. Still feels like a RC build, not the GM build. Looks like I'm gonna wait until 10.6.1 to install Snow Leopard on my main machine :(

Build 10A432 has been great for me so I disagree:

64-bit kernel on my MBP and MP [check]
Open CL [check]
64-bit kernel extension that I actually need [check]
Smaller footprint [check]
Stable [check]

I'm sure there are a few "3rd party" kernel extensions that are not ready yet but I've had luck with the few that I actually need.

Who cares?

If that truly is the SL install disk portrayed on the training document, the one with the actual Snow Leopard - i can't believe that more people aren't complaining about it. The other day when the images leaked were rumored to be the SL packaging - people were all over it. And now... nothing.

Not that any of us can do anything about it anyway, I am just surprised by how little emotion it is getting now. Interesting.

I'm curious too why people even care about what the disk looks like that the typical user uses once and rarely ever looks at again. *sigh*

Whats the diff

what's the difference in a clean install and the other. Is one better than the other? I am having problems with Time Machine will a "clean" install fix this or would the other ???

And you know this how? It all depends on the courier.

If you order it via apple.com, you could have it before people at the AppleStores' as it depends on how close you are to the depot. When I ordered my mac, I recieved it at 8AM! Which is usually before the AppleStores open. And if you order from Amazon, you still get it on the release date, and once again, it depends how close you are to the depot to when you will get it delivered.

Please don't post what you don't know...

I ordered Leopard through Amazon long before the release date. I went to the local Apple Store on the release date, checked the status of my Leopard delivery, found that it had not been shipped, canceled my Amazon order online in the Apple Store, and bought Leopard at the Apple Store on the release date.

Also, many people don't know what they don't know.
