I still can't preorder from the Apple Online Store. I can do all the steps, but when I wanna check out, it says my cart is empty.

:-(

what's the difference in a clean install and the other. Is one better than the other? I am having problems with Time Machine will a "clean" install fix this or would the other ???

I don't know if a clean install would fix this problem, but I've installed 10A432 on my MacBook and on my iMac. The MacBook had problems to use the old Time Machine backup, so it did a whole new one and everything is working fine. The iMac used the old backup and now Time Machine has some problems with it.

Maybe it's neccesary for you to make a new backup, even if it's not the best way, but maybe it helps.

You have no idea what you're talking about. No software is bug-free beyond 1000 lines, and to get that good you need a five-year development cycle like IBM did with their mainframes thirty years ago, and algorithm provers (which still only prove that your program does what your parameters say it should--whether the parameters are correct is a totally separate question).

There will always be bugs. It is a fact of anything created by humans. If you don't like it, I suggest becoming a lumberjack. In Yukon Territory. With a handsaw.

Attitude like this sickens me, because it is at the very center of software companies corrupting them like a cancer. I am a software developer, I know much more than the average person about the complexities of software development, and I also know more than my fair share about farting one out before it is ready, simply because it has come to be accepted. And if we are talking GM here with these reports of people actually using it it clearly is a case of releasing something before it is ready precisely because they know they can patch it later.

Now for a pile of horse manure of a company like Microsheit that is OK, because it is accepted, but you know what, Apple claims to be better than them and in case this is GM it isn't as well as it wasn't with Leopard.

It would actually be worse in this case because their hard date was set pretty wide at September leaving plenty of time for further testing. I'd like to say I have so much faith in Apple that I don't consider a sub par GM a possibility, but I remember the Leopard launch. I guess we’ll see.

Thanks, but I mean Time Machine wont work at all on my iMac now. I read what seams like everything about it but don't want to call a tech. it gets 20-30GB way through then stops:rolleyes:. Would i be better off saving my entire HD to an external and then bring back over after reinstall? I know this is kinda of topic but not really...

How could anyone rate this a negative? Do you NOT want Apple's employees to learn to use it? Do you think the Aug 28 release date is TOO EARLY? I don't get it.

Temporary Authorization

Has anyone else noticed that Apple has charged your credit card for Snow Leopard? I checked my credit card today, and there was a temporary authorization for $10.24 from the online Apple Store (the cost of the upgrade DVD--I purchased a new Mac in June). To me this seems like a really good sign that it will ship soon. They usually don't charge credit cards until it ships. My guess is that we hear an announcement from Apple tomorrow!

And I placed the order for Snow Leopard in June.

If you order it via apple.com, you could have it before people at the AppleStores' as it depends on how close you are to the depot. When I ordered my mac, I recieved it at 8AM! Which is usually before the AppleStores open. And if you order from Amazon, you still get it on the release date, and once again, it depends how close you are to the depot to when you will get it delivered.

Please don't post what you don't know...

I hate to burst your bubble, but Amazon has not announced a release date delivery option. In fact, if you pre-order Snow Leopard from them now it appears it may take up to two weeks for delivery and 3-5 additional days for shipment depending on whether or not you choose free or premium shipping.

"Please note that your order may take an additional 3 to 5 business days to ship out from our fulfillment center(s). Transit time for Super Saver Shipping orders is 5 to 9 business days after shipping."

Typically, Amazon receives the product the day before or day of the launch and tries to ship it out the same day. However, I've ordered many movies and video games from Amazon weeks in advanced only have them arrive one and two days after their actual release date.

If you want it on its release date, the only sure way would be to purchase it directly from Apple. Apple will ship Snow Leopard two-day or overnight to insure it arrives by 6 p.m. on launch day.

Got a quick question. This is my first mac that i purchased a few months go, while this being my first os x upgrade. When i go to upgrade will i loose everything that currently have on my computer?

I can't wait!

And I don't remember - It's a simultaneous, word-wide release, right?

You would expect so - but funnily enough it doesn't say that on the US/Austalian/Canadian versions - only UK - and heaven forbid that we ever got preferential treatment :p

For what is worth
I was in Best Buy last week and one the computer sales guy said all their staff had demo of Snow Leopard last week.

Are you still in school? I'm not trying to be condescending, that's a serious question. People are imperfect. It's simply a fact. Nothing that a person does can be mistake-free if it is of any complexity at all, and doubly so for things that hundreds or thousands of people are trying to work on together. This isn't a bad attitude, it is simply an acknowledgment of humanity. To think otherwise is the real bad attitude: it's called hubris, and it will lead to far worse problems than doing the best you can in a limited amount of time and then "farting one out" as you so eloquently put it.

Not if you tighten everything up! :D

No. Concerns like this are taken into consideration when the OS X DVD's are produced. You'll be walked through the installation process and you're information should be fine.

Hopefully, you're using Time Machine to back up everything, anyway, in case something ever happens.
