On the other side, companies never try to minimise a real problem, right?

Steve Jobs:

Said with Apple starting to offer free rubber bumper cases to iPhone 4 owners, then allegedly firing the responsible executive and lo and behold, iPhone 4S with a redesigned antenna which fixes exactly the problem Apple stated did not exist in the first place...

I think there is a part of sensationalism in the iPhone 6+ "bending" media coverage, but I also think a problem actually exists (hopefully much less severe than what the "media" describe).

I read numerous articles claiming a similar (bending) problem with the 5 and 5S.....those never materialized.

Point being there is always "something" that's wrong with these products. The media picks it up and, whether a big deal or not, blows it up into a huge problem.

Look, is the device thin and made of aluminum? Yes it is. Does it obviously bend under the right pressure? Yes.

But this notion that it will bend by simply being in your normally sized pockets? I don't buy it.....

At the same time, I've adjusted my use because the screen is so much larger than I'm used to. My suits have very deep pockets, but even so I set my phones on my desk when I'm sitting. I also have a dock in my car that's suctioned to the windshield for my 6+. I rarely have my phone in my pocket when I sit - mainly because its just not all that comfortable.

It's a big device. You can't expect to use it and carry it the same way you did a 4" device. If you don't want to adjust, don't buy it. Pretty simple.

You've seen them, but YOU are the one are here writing about them? Full of it...

Why, wouldn't I? I'm a tech follower and an apple fan (although that is seriously being tested with the latest products).

The fact is, I live in an affluent area, and although rural, a lot of people got the 6 on Friday or Saturday. One of my friends has a bent phone, the other, more of a warp. About a dozen others don't.

So, with your thinking, I've got two of the nine here in rural Cambridgeshire. Out of 10m, I must buy a lottery ticket or a wonka bar, because their must be an aura around this place.

Or it could be more simple. Apple's obsession with thinness has lead to design flaw for everyday use.

Basically you guys with bent phones purely user error. I told you no one puts their large phone in their pocket and then complains it gets damage. Ridiculous.

Apple is so right to respond this way because their product isn't at fault! Tons of people want some kind of freebie. Get lost!

No, they spent a lot of money on a cheaply made phone. Their frustration is justified, get over it.

a quick look at your post history shows your true colors. please... you have no credibility.

I must be one of the 9. I called Apple Care the day after my iPhone 6 (not plus) arrived bent. Only way they would replace it was if I mailed it in first and then they would send me a new phone. I can't really do that. I have yet to get my phone successfully replaced.

Later brought it into an Apple Store before this whole bent-gate thing came about. Employees said they had not seen or heard of it before. They all wanted to see my phone because they said they never heard of anything like that before. They made it into a sort of spectacle. They were going to replace it, but did not have any phones in stock.

So I am still stuck with my bent phone. Hoping to get it replaced soon.

Really? Post a photo of it, I think the forum would like to see it. Cool?

Waiting.....please don't let me hear crickets......

I'm glad folks will get replacement phones, but I hope this gives Apple some food for thought with the thinness obsession. And, quality control.

IF the problem is rare (as the data seems to indicate) there's no quality control issue.

What forces can other phones withstand? Where does Apple fall in that spectrum? People act like the iPhone 6 is way off the low end of the chart; I suspect it's quite near the high end. Only other phones are more likely to BREAK than bend. The brutally-bent iPhone 6 still runs, with perfect screen!

Thin DOES matter to a great many people--it impresses them and sells phones whether they think about it or not, and on a more practical level it makes the phone easier to get in and out of a pocket. Battery and armor matter too--but Apple has to pick a balance, and I'm glad they didn't pick a thicker one.

You've personally seen more than nine? Pics or it didn't happen.

What, you want me to take screenshots of the comments or something?

Yeah, I know, it's the internet and people can lie, but to me this just sounds like Apple trying to cover its butt. Maybe I'm a little jaded because of all the problems they've had this week.

You can clearly see them along the sides in many of the pictures. There are at least 5 of them along the left side of the device. Having seen the inside of an i6+, I can attest to those being partially for the screen tie-down, partially for support.

Good point.

Great, this is a non-issue now.

We can all move on with out lives, now that it affects only 9 out of the 10,000,000 iPhones!

The media & haters have had their fun....time to move on now.

I never read any iPhone 5 bending story's? I mean my one was built solidly enough not to bend I thought.
I have to say though, the iPhone 6 Plus is easy to bend IMO if you can do it with your hands, but at the same time it's to be expected when it's that big and thin.
Interesting to see the metals embedded in the aluminium they have used.

If I remember correctly, the iPhone 4 chassis was made from some type of stainless steel?

I think it's obvious their are more then '9' bent iPhones, but not that many, say even if it was 50, that's still 50 out of millions and thus is no problem. If this was a big issue you would have seen plenty more photos and videos online.

Thanks for the info. I guess the biggest concern now is how robust they are.

Forget about bendgate because I have a regular iPhone 6. What about the updategate. I’m coming over from Android so I have a week left to decide. Everything just worked with my Note 3 and I don’t want to be Apple’s beta tester. All I wanted was a smaller phone that has legendary support and apps. So far I’m not impressed with all the issues that happened this month.

Apple: Bending in iPhone 6 Plus From Normal Use 'Extremely Rare', Only 9 Cust...

You guys do realize Macrumors started this whole s*it storm. A couple guys on here bent their phones supposedly by just storing them in their suit pocket and being at a wedding all day. I call bu******* on that story. Since thousands of people have been putting their 6 Plus's in their pockets without issue. Then Macrumors writes the story about that and the rest is history.

Welcome to the internet. Picts or it didn't happen. You may not have joined the forums to trash talk Apple, but that's exactly what you're doing since you're unwilling to back up any claims.

If this is a serious issue, then go to your local Apple Store. Posting on MacRumors (without any evidence) that you're having a problem is not going to fix it.

The "Internet" is no excuse to treat people poorly. The are plenty of places online where anonymity does not automatically equate to a total lack of civilized discussion.

Have you read any of my prior posts in this thread? I'm doing quite the opposite of trash talking. Design and manufacturing issues happen with any product and any company out there. I don't have a local Apple store, so I'm mostly here to inform myself before I take a drive to the nearest one--though everyone around here appears to be more interested in Internet fights than they are genuine discussion.

And that was a HUGE Error by Steve and Apple to think they can ignore a rising issue in hopes that it will go away. If the phone cost a $1 then I can see their point. But at over $400 for an iPhone 6 Plus, thats a different story.

Steve did not ignore the problem. They ran tests to show that all phones get reduced signal when you place your hand around the antenna. He wanted to be sure before providing an answer.

The best answer to this situation is to tell people that users shouldn't put thin electronics into their back pockets and sit on them. Like DUH! A small percentage of the population are idiots, and they're the first to make the news, pretending to be smart.

The irony in this post is quite palpable.

Perhaps some of the MR members on here should take their Apple equipment apart, including the iPhone 6, and exchange them for models without any Samsung components in them?

"Timely quote," said the year 2013. iPhones are now Samsung free. Your research is as fragmented as your OS.

No, I don't think many people have realised that yet... very ironic though isn't it? Still MR's bank account will be the more healthier for it.

To Apple:

The NFL thanks you greatly for taking attention away from our wife beaters. Please advertise at our games.
