Even if Apple reported that 900 or 9000 people complained of bending phones, it's still such a small percentage of the total sold. Of course every competitor to Apple will be either actively pushing negative press against Apple, or simply joining in on what another competitor is doing, furthering the vitriol.

And given the general population's (here in the US at least) stupidity, they'll think it is, as others have suggested, 9 million people experiencing problems out of 10 million sold.

It's not much different than politicians saying the tar fields pipeline will lower gas prices at the pump...or that ISIS is hiding in the mountains of West Virginia ready to kill thousands of Americans. Dumb people believe whatever they hear on the "news".

NINE! Out of millions. That doesn't mean there won't be more, but based on the internet stories, you'd think it was 9 million out of the 10 million sold. Geez.

I think Samsung is planting numerous people. lol

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Samsung has been planting people to criticize Apple. Samsung's users are quickly approaching cult like with their anti-Apple rants. I have a coworker who just has to criticize Apple and Apple users on a daily basis. These people need an intervention. lol

A solution to this whole "bend-gate": Common Sense! Don't put your phone in your overly tight jeans pocket!! To me, it's like people are blaming Apple for their own stupidity.

Yeah, how stupid is it to expect that you could put your phone in your pocket without bending it... what a bunch of idiots.

If only nine customers complained, then why is the story and images "spreading like wildfire"?

Haven't any of you "wondered" why this topic whether on the slowest of comment sites or here on MR or Appleinsider, 9to5Mac etc etc goes up to like 1,000 comments in like zero to 60?

I mean, I actually believe Apple... I've read nearly every story in Apple driven forums and I have yet to see a "flood" of users displaying their own 6+'s showing this "issue"..

Where are all the "pictures" of tons of damaged product?

Seriously, judging by the VIPER pace this issue and the iOS 8.01 deal it honestly is smelling a lot like SAME SCUM is behind it...

Factoid - Even Eric Schimdt in his interview yesterday seemed visibly shaken by the success of this phone lineup.

Remember they (Samsung)was so ready with negative ads on these devices after being unveiled at the keynote -- do any of you really, really think that this issue isnt' being exploited by PAID shrills??

Tell me. How many of the commenters on ANY of those "horror" story articles on the "bend" issue actually were "victims" of this issue???? Outside of the very first photos and the lame hit piece video...

The number of people here attempting to blame the user is astounding.

I take extraordinarily good care of my devices. I owned an iPhone 4 and 5 for close to two years each, rarely had either one in a case, and resold both of them in near mint condition upon upgrading. I've been keeping my 6+ in an Apple leather case and have rarely put it in my pocket (but when I have, it's been in my loose-fitting front left pocket with plenty of room to breathe and no apparent pressure on the device).

My phone is now subtly bent down on the top left corner, making it uneven.

I haven't contacted Apple yet, as I'm weighing my options. If it turns out to be an issue with the 6+ model, I don't want to swap for another phone one week into having this one that's just going to do the same thing--but the regular 6 already feels very small after getting used to this one.

It also stated that both the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have met or exceeded testing for strength and durability, and that bending in the iPhone 6 Plus during normal use is "extremely rare."

Nevertheless...

It's a really good bet that next year's model will either not have weak button spots directly opposite each other, or will have more structural support for them.

This whole thing is a fantastic example of mass hysteria.

It's absolutely ridiculous. Ludicrous. The amount of people I've seen comments from online, from both journalists and comments from the public, saying that "Apple is on a downward spiral", "this is terrible that they're not commenting on such a bad flaw in their product", etc. is just insane.

I'm all for being balanced and fair to all technology companies. I respect Apple and it's products because I have found them to be very good.

However, I must say, what is it with Apple hate lately? It's like a disease. Why do the press feel the need to fabricate articles over unsubstantiated flaws in Apple products?

It needs to stop.

100% agreed.

In all of these threads, the hysteria builds, and anyone who even tries to bring a little balance to the conversation is labeled an Apple apologist. The fact is, we did not know how widespread the issue really was. It's certainly fair to hold off judging the issue until the facts are actually known, rather than giving in to the panic.

Also, hating Apple seems to be the "cool" thing, now.

RIP, Bendghazi.

Then post a pic. With proof in the pic that its you. Otherwise go away.

Amazing

Hey I am just fracking expressed by this. I mean can other phones be purposely bent like this and not even crack let alone malfunction in any way?

I'm not surprised. People are easily fooled by the headline news, and Apple is such a big target.

Okay, let's be more realistic. The bend issue only applies to the iPhone 6 plus. I'd say those are 2 million devices. So in about five days, 9 devices reportedly bent (let's neglect that there probably are people out there, that don't give a damn). It's not like the bending issue is one of those issues where you either are affected or not. It's an ongoing issue. So we can safely assume that the number of incidences is geometrically/exponentially distributed.

If you extrapolate this, you'll have 180 devices bent in 100 days, 1314 devices bent over the course of two years (of those initial 2 million devices!) etc. And that is the most careful guess.

Tim Cook: Schiller, listen carefully. Find those 9 people.

Phil Schiller: We going to kill 'em boss?

Tim Cook: No, I'm going to invite them over for Thanksgiving Dinner and apologize to them.

I'm not exactly a fanboy, but oh man the amount these issues get hyped up JUST because it's Apple and the entire internet is on a permanent crusade to find faults with them. If Samsung's new phone had bent instead, no one would care.

But then the Apple users themselves do it too. There is this thing of expecting absolute perfection from Apple products (to be fair, they are expensive so one can expect a bit of perfectionism) so it's only really Apple users who have held the things at every angle looking for contrast problems (remember the original iPod Touch?) and other issues that they'd probably not have spotted if they weren't deliberately looking for problems.

Creaking. That's another one that people look for with Apple stuff. The faintest little sound from it and off it goes to the genius bar. You should hear how much my Note 2 creaks, haha!

Same thing happened with "Antennagate."

Ah, now that one was legit. I know, I had the iPhone 4, and still have it, and yeah - without a case on, it loses the signal if you hold it. They gave away free cases for a reason in that instance.

Whether the 6+ issues are exaggerated remains to be seen, but I must admit, if I were to buy one of the two tomorrow it'd be the standard version.

There will be a lot more than 9 now that it has gotten publicity. Chances are people will use "bending" as an excuse to replace a phone that was dropped or otherwise accidentally/deliberately damaged.

That said, it does seem to indicate this whole thing was blown out of proportion.
